The Chicago Tribune continues to engage in deceptive billing practices. I had been paying $6.50 every 6 months for digital access only. They increased my rate to $103.74 every 6 months without any notification at all. No email, no letter, no call, no notification at all. They flat out lied to me saying they sent an email and a letter. They initially refused to ****** my subscription and refund me. They again lied by saying I had not been charged the $103.74 despite the fact the only way I even knew about the charge was because I received a text message from my credit card company. I had to ask for a supervisor to get my subscription canceled and to get refunded. **************** was rude, rude, rude and dismissive. There needs to be an investigation into the ongoing deceptive billing practices of the Chicago Tribune.Chicago Tribune

I have home delivery. There are periods where the paper will not be delivered for 2-3 days in a row. I go online and request a redelivery which does not happen. I call (the call goes to a call center in the ***********). I am told they will escalate, they will investigate and that I will get my paper. I do not get my paper. When I request a phone call to explain what is going on, I am told I will get a call in ***** hours. No call ever comes. The customer support in the Philippines is incapable of helping or lacks the resources to help. Not a one time event. This has happened 3 time this year already.Chicago Tribune

The Tribune's billing practices are predatory and most likely unlawful. A quick ****** search shows you they've been sued several times via class action. They'll give you a promotional rate (3-6 bucks/year) and then one year later start charging you exorbitantly high amounts out of nowhere. If you don't have up to date card information, they'll harass you and/or put you in arrears, all while you can't see that a charge exists on your side of the account. I've called several times to cancel and they just refuse. It's honestly the most egregious customer service issue I've ever experienced. I hope another class action comes their way and they go bankrupt. They should be ashamed as an institution of "journalism."Chicago Tribune

The Chicago Tribune raised my subscription price for eight weeks by over $200 without notifying me of the change. When I called to inquire about it, the explanation was that they had increased fees! While the representative fixed it, this is the second time this has happened within a three month timeframe, buyer beware!Chicago Tribune

Deplorable customer service. Called to cancel subscription which was paid through April 20th, a Sunday. Did not receive paper for that day and was charged for the renewal the next day. Called for a refund and was informed they initiated refund for $179 and change. I was charged $182 for renewal. I called to check on the refund and was then told I was due a refund for $177 and change. I asked why my refund continues to dwindle in amount. Hopefully I will be refunded the entire amount in 5 to 7 days. I'm honestly not holding my breath.Chicago Tribune

I have been a subscriber for over 50 years! The customer service is really customer dis-service. The ******************** has no corporate phone numbers, and all phone numbers posted are answered and require prompts to reach customer service, which is off shore. I have had billing problems, even on auto-pay! Delivery problems are handled haphazardly, and as of 11:00am today, March 27th,I still do not have a paper! I am retired and paying $89.96 per month. I would like to speak to management in Chicago, not off shore, to amicably resolve this issue.Chicago Tribune

After some misunderstandings about subscription price I signed up on the phone for a 1 year subscription for $519.40 on Nov. 11, 2024. This is confirmed by emails from the Tribune Consumer services. Diverting from this our contract the Tribune charged my credit card $589.92 on Nov. 20, 2024. Disregarding those facts as confirmed in correspondence the Tribune has not honored my multiple requests for repayment of the difference of $70.12. This is either ignorance and/or incompetence on the part of the customer service agents or simply a business concept to keep any money once collected, regardless whether rightfully collected or not. Documentation of my claims and their responses is available on request. In any case this treatment is not what I would expect from the Tribune or any other honest business. Maybe you can help me to bring a solution to this case.*** *******Chicago Tribune

Predatory practices by the Chicago Tribune. There should be televised reports and or a class action lawsuit about the scam. Having their electronic fingers in elderly people's pockets with no limit to how much they can help themselves to is incredible. Anyone reading all of these 1 star reviews can plainly see this is no accident nor misunderstanding.Chicago Tribune

I've subscribed for almost 30 years, and every 6 months, they send an invoice $30-$50 more than my 13-week rate. When I call, they tell me I'm going to receive the special issues with this subscription. There's nothing different about it. Then they make me an offer to charge that new, higher amount, but extend the duration of weeks. This time, I said no. Give me the regular rate I was paying for ************************************************************************************ 48 hours to add it again. Before 48 hours happened, I received two invoices: one with my regular rate, and the other $32 higher. Their response when I called? Pay the higher amount, wait for the charge to show up in my account, then call to ask that they refund the difference. Absolutely abusive practice. Chicago Tribune, please don't respond to this with a we apologize message. I can see your other responses posted here. If you were actually sorry, perhaps you'd change your membership sales strategies to reward loyal subscribers instead of punishing them. No wonder the paper is declining. It shouldn't be this hard to have a relationship with a business.Chicago Tribune
