Billing scam. If you are on the Trib's EasyPay system, watch the billing dates. The frequently start the next billing period 2 to 4 days prior to the end of the current billing period. I have had to call the Trib every other month to get my billing correct. Also, the automatic answering robot wants to hand up. It asks what the call is about. When I said "billing", it asked if I wanted to update my credit card number. When I said "no", it said "ok, you can hang up now". I have complained before about the robot answering, but apparently the Trib doesn't care enough to fix it.Chicago Tribune

I've been a Chicago Tribune subscriber for over 30 years. I make payments via customer service because it is the only way to ensure I am not charged an extra $10 dollars each for their "Premium" add-ins. On October 1, 2024, I made a payment over the phone with a customer service *** for 13 weeks of service (no premium issues) which I was told would cover service through Dec. 25th. Over the last 3 days I have been bombarded with phone calls from the Chicago Tribune. Because my service is not due for renewal, I ignored the first couple of calls. After 3 calls and no messages, I began to block the number. But the calls continued as they come from multiple phone numbers. Finally, I answered the phone today and the *** told me that my account was overdue. When I informed him that I had paid on October 1st for 13 weeks, he claimed that my service was only covered until Dec. 5th. So, first he claimed I was in arrears, then he said he could see the payment but it was not for a standard 13 weeks. Finally, I cancelled the subscription. If the sales ***s are telling lies about coverage and payments, this is fraud plain and simple. I looked for an address or email address to send my complaint, but of course none is published. There is no point in contacting customer service as this is the source of their fraudulent activity.Chicago Tribune

Watch your billing statements....usually you pay for 3 months at a time, and the last few times they have switched dates, then they started sending me incorrect billing statements. Thank goodness I saved all previous statements to reference how they were changing subscription dates....Chicago Tribune

The feedback and information you provided within this BBB review as well as your cancelled account have been reviewed. Additional charges associated with the subscription shorten your original paid thru date. Any additional costs, which shorten your paid thru date, are reflected within your account disclaimers as well as the Terms and Conditions. Criteria and details regarding these additional charges are noted on all our new start promotional offers, billing statements and any other correspondence. For more details and to view the Complete Subscriber Terms and Conditions please go to www.tribpub.com/tc. Also, there was a weekly rate change due to your promotional time frame had transpired. Customer Service has been in contact with you on August 1, 2024 and assisted by discussing this information as well and processed credit adjustments which extended the paid thru date. Also, during your Customer Service contact on October 7, 2024 your outstanding balance in the amount of $38.53 was credit adjusted therefore no further balance is reflected on the account at this time. I have called 5 times to cancel, every time I receive verbal confirmation that my subscription is cancelled. Lo and behold, no cancellation each time. I go to the website to cancel through their outdated feedback form - lo and behold, after receiving three different confirmation emails saying I've successfully canceled my subscription, yet I get charged still every month. Everyone who works for the Chicago Tribune should be ashamed of their business practices.Chicago Tribune

I called to cancel the subscription to the Naperville Sun (owned by Tribune) for May Law Firm. Had to call twice on 8/21/24. First rep hung up when I didn't agree to a discounted rate. 2nd Rep, ******, cancelled and said it was effective 8/22. The next service/billing period was to start 8/25/24. Therefore, I thought all was handled. Then on 10/1 i get a letter from a collections agency stating I owe $10.67. I never received or asked for any service after 8/25. I also never received an invoice and they just sent it to collections. Seems like they are just trying to get people to pay something by sending to collections. I plan to inform attorneys' general office as well as complain here. I am also considering contacting some litigators I know to see if anything can be done to stop what I think are predatory consumer practices. URGE EVERYONE TO NEVER BUY A TRIBUNE PRODUCT. THEY SEEM HIGHLY UNETHICAL TO ME. I have already incurred damages as a result as I have had to spend 1/2 hour in writing this, finding a place to lodge a complaint that might be addressed, etc.Chicago Tribune

Got a card saying 2 months is now $432.67 (actually 8 weeks). I call in and they offer me $239.92 as the "Best Rate". as an over 40 customer I feel ripped off. Then I get to a supervisor who offered me a $324 rate for the 8 weeks. What is the true rate???? I guess it is whatever people will pay. Guess it will not let me leave a zero star review.Chicago Tribune

Ruinously expensive over time. My elderly mother has been a lifelong loyal Chicago Tribune subscriber. She's elderly, and has the subscription on auto-pay. HOWEVER, they've quietly jacked up the rate to $2,680 a year! That's for a paper that has gotten smaller, thinner, and less relevant over time. This is the reward for being a loyal subscriber? In addition, you cannot cancel the subscription online, and instead are redirected to a 385-234-XXX number which no longer rings through, as a un-dialable number, leaving no way to unsubscribe. This is simply broad-daylight highway robbery, and there should be a class-action lawsuit for taking advantage of the elderly.Chicago Tribune

I have been a Chicago Tribune customer for over 10 years. I have a hard time understanding the price differences from one 12 week period to another. I usually pay ****** my recent notice (which I receive infrequently) now shows I am to be charged ******. I called and spoke to the *** (which I am pretty sure is not located in the **) I explained I am retired she graciously said she would make sure I was charged 298. I just got my charge bill to find out I was still charged 400. I called to have this adjusted more than 2 weeks before the billing. To add to that I am going on vacation for 2 weeks during this cycle and like others mentioned I do not get credited for those two weeks nor is the period even extended 2 weeks. After this billing cycle I am pretty much thru with the Trib. There irregular billing practices are something I can no longer afford or tolerate. I find their practices dishonest. They no longer have the privilege of taking my money. How about setting a yearly rate ahead of time and bill quarterly bill the client. They have my credit card number and I am not too happy about the hoops I will have to jump thru to cancel based on others complaints and concerns ***************Chicago Tribune

I called to cancel my subscription on July 3 via phone (ridiculous that it is not online) and was assured that it was cancelled. Today (9/11) I received an invoice for $172. When I called to complain, I was told that they do have a record of me cancelling on 7/3 but that the cancellation was effective 9/7 and I had to pay for the time in between (a charge of about $41)! What a scam! I told the operator that they needed to reverse that charge because I had already cancelled. She said she would escalate it to the billing department and tell them I did not want to pay my bill, which is a disgusting misrepresentation of the actual issue. This will make me think twice before ever subscribing to the Chicago Tribune ever again.Chicago Tribune

Where is the transparency in subscription costs? My elderly parents have been customers of the ******************** for many years. The cost of their home delivery subscription recently increased to over $3,600 a year - an untenable sum for persons on a fixed income. The online account management options provided no explanation, no insight into when their billing amount changed, no pricing for different subscription configurations, or a simple cancellation function. I appreciate the need for periodic changes to terms of service but the lack of communication or ability to manage the subscription borders on predatory.Chicago Tribune
