1 starChicago Tribune is a complete scam. I cancelled my final paid subscription on June 20th which was to end on June 25th through their website and received a comfirmation email from Customer Sevice that stated "RE: Cancel Subscription. We thank you for your support of local journalism. If you'd like to reconsider discontinuing your service, please call and mention code ONSAVE. Otherwise, your request has been and will be processed within ***** hours. If you have any questions, please call ****************** THEY CONTINUED TO CHARGE ME AND SENT A BILL COLLECTION AGENCY TO ME. I called customer service and the person told me that even though I received a confirmation email for discontinuing the service they don't consider my subscription cancelled and that I them money.Review fromRick K

1 starMy parents subscribed to the Chicago Tribune, so, believing strongly in the preservation of print media, I followed their example, until I became suspicious of their billing notices, which were supposed to be for eight weeks, but came sometimes four weeks, sometimes two weeks. When I confronted Tribune customer service with this inconsistency, the representative claimed that the previous billing from just two weeks prior to the current billing, was for the previous eight weeks, which begged the question, then why didn't the Tribune wait another six weeks for THIS billing? The representative offered to reduce my subscription price, but I have been there before and knew that reduced price is temporary, it creeps back up, again. I asked to be downgraded to digital access only, to which the representative replied that I would have to go on E-Z Pay. I don't trust their billing policy, why would I hand them ************************* access to my credit card or checking account?Review fromJay K

1 starThe Chicago Tribune must be desparate to stay in business. What they do is very close to a scam!! You sign-up for a subscription at a good price and then when it comes up for renewal, they jack-up the price and don't tell you that they about it until well after the new renewal period. when you get a bill, you can't cancel without paying an unreasonable amount. I will NEVER do any business with them in the future.Review fromTrina C

The Chicago Tribune is engaging in very deceitful business practices. I signed up for a 12 week digital access subscription for a very good price, which would increase after that period, but I could cancel at any time. I then was charged $15 per month, which was fine. The problem was when I called to cancel. The people who were working customer service spoke very broken English and kept trying to sell me another discounted subscription. When I insisted I just cancel, they would tell me to hold and never come back. It was clearly what they were told to do. They make you call on purpose (it's the only way to cancel, no email no snail mail, only a call). Then the reps put you on hold and essentially hang up on you. I finally was successful on the fourth try when I told the representative not to put me on hold and if I was put on hold I was going to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Miracle of all miracles, I was finally able to cancel. The other reps were saying things like, "Okay, you are canceled but paid up until Feb of 2023, 6 months from now." Because it was hard to understand them I am sure other people thought they canceled and really weren't. Hard to believe an institution like the Tribune would engage in such deceptive practices. I will never subscribe again and feel certain they won't be around much longer as a paper if this is their overall philosophy.Chicago Tribune

After 35 years, I called the Tribune in June to cancel my subscription. I was told that my current subscription would cancel in July. I confirmed verbally that there would be no other billing to my credit card. On August 23, 2022, I get a collection letter stating that I owe the Tribune $17.24. Mine you, I never received any **** after cancelled my subscription. I called the Tribune this morning and after getting disconnected after voicing my displeasure, called back and if I understand correctly, my subscription ran until July 5, but for whatever reason I was getting billed from July 6 to the 15th. Not sure why that would be the case, but I agreed to pay because my credit is worth more than the price of the newspaper. I dont know what kind of racket they are playing, but I would warn anyone to ensure you get some sort of confirmation as to when your subscription is cancelled and ask if there is anything owed at the time.Chicago Tribune

September 3, ****************************************************** frustration you have experienced with your former Chicago Tribune subscription. Our customers satisfaction is of our utmost importance. After reviewing your account, it seems your paid thru date was shortened due to additional charges due to the Premium editions which are associated with your home delivery subscription. The premium charges were implemented to help defray print and delivery costs associated with these special issues that our readers have come to enjoy. Criteria and details regarding these special premium issues are noted on all our Billing Statements and any other correspondence. As you have previously contacted our *************************** and cancelled your subscription, we hope that you would reconsider restarting at another time or at your new address. Due to your feedback you provided, I have processed a refund $8.62 totaling the additional amount you had paid. Please allow ***** business days for this refund to be applied back to your credit card charged.I hope this clarifies our terms and conditions associated with your subscription. I signed up with an introductory offer for the Sunday + Online subs, with the understanding of a price increase. And in the last 1.5 years, I've gone from $0.99 to $39.99 to $60 to $84. According to customer service this is for 8 weeks, but I'm being billed at 6. The account management portal provides no insight into what you're signed up for, no history of your invoices, or what the pricing structure is for the different options. The lack of transparency is concerning, so I've cancelled. **************** was quick to offer a "discounted" price of $39, which doesn't reassure me. Hope this doesn't turn into an ordeal like the other reviews. And aside from their billing, delivery at my new address has been inconsistent. So I've been paying extra for papers I haven't even been receiving. **************** has been oddly vague in all of our communications; questions ignored, information provided incomplete, etc This is all super disappointing, since I think supporting local journalism is so important but not when they have sketchy business practices.Chicago Tribune
