I have insurance with CareFirst through my employer. I noticed that they were not calculating my deductible correctly in February and began a process that is still going on in August. Every call they tell me that the process takes 30-45 days and nothing seems to happen. When I call back all records of prior calls are missing and I feel like I am starting over. I've not spent well over my deductible and until this is resolved have no way to recover the additional cash spent.
I would give CareFirst and uncaring ZERO stars if it were possible.

Company appears to have good customer service, however their policy on check disbursement I feel is unethical. While serving overseas I was issued two checks for reimbursement of service I pad for that was clearly theirs to pay. I never cashed those checks, and they have a five-year policy that if checks are not cashed, they will not re-issue. Where does the money go that they save? Doesn't it still belong to me? According to them I guess it goes to their shareholders not their customers. Very disappointed. After almost 11yrs as a loyal customer to Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield I will be shopping for other insures this upcoming open season.

Terrible company!!! It takes them weeks to respond, only to find yourself right back where you started. RXs denied due to no insurance. If they corrected this as fast as they notify *** of non payment/no insurance we would be in great shape. I guess it's time to get the state and our lawyer involved. So Carefirst has 5 months of pure profit for which I have no insurance benefit. Hmmmm??

They do some things well, but they have really messed up in covering my newborn. After the hospital stay, every visit/checkup since, the have denied coverage for. I contacted them about the issue, noting that I had done the change of benefits due to birth/adoption form with the state and that my newborn daughter was on my plan and covered. They noted that the system made an error and told me in a message on April 22 at 5:12pm: "I have checked the status of the claim and I can see the claim has been adjusted as of 04/19/2024. The claim was originally denied due to the member not being listed on your plan. The claim has now been processed correctly with no member liability for you. Thank you."
Keyword -- no member liability for me. Additionally, on the phone they told me that they would pay the bill in 7-10 business. Fast forward to today, 47 days after the appointment, and they still haven't paid the bill and I'm starting to receive invoices from the hospital. Talk about negligence from CareFirst. Not only that, each time I respond to the claim I copy the Member ID card for my daughter that they sent me in the mail and it's effective date is before all of her appointments (and they are still denying coverage for all of her checkups)... like what the holy hell.
This is a great case/example of why companies need to stop relying on computers to do everything for them and at some point an time they need to have an actual human being respond to and fix cases.

Edit: they were relatively quick at fixing the situation, it just took multiple communications with a case manager (multiple attempts). In the end everything worked out okay.

I had two associates hang up on me when they realized I was inquiring about drug coverage; that I was not “inquiring about CareFirst Bluechoice plans.” Two weeks earlier, I called to find out what my co-pay would be, and was told $400. Luckily, that turned out to be wrong. I’m also going to have to file an appeal about a co-pay because this company is not following a new law that Marilyn has implemented for mammograms.

An absolutely miserable insurance to be stuck with by an employer. If your employer offers this, you're probably better off sticking to whatever catastrophic care plan you would have picked otherwise because the basic plan doesn't even cover emergency care. They never assigned a primary care provider for me, and I can't search for one within my network because I can't log in to their website. They never sent me my insurance card which has made picking up vital prescriptions dangerously difficult, and when I tried to get my insurance card the website broke, refusing to let me reset my password because my account didn't exist while simultaneously not letting me create an account because one already existed with my ID number. Their automated call system has run me around in circles without directing me to a human being that can actually help me, but that's the only method I have left to be able to log in. As soon as my employment contract ends, I will never use CareFirst as long as I live, and strongly suggest you tell the same to anyone looking for insurance.

They refused to pay for my prescription twice insisting on choosing what they offered instead. Generally not a good provider, so I decided to terminate my contract. I terminated it on Dec 18th 2023 but made January autopayment on Dec 11th. I contacted them to ask for reimbursement for my next year Jan coverage payment, and was refused, as I was explained that my payment on Dec 11th was for December, and not January next year. I can reference number if needed. Though I knew that that was for January, I still contacted a ****** ********** broker M.A., and asked if that could be for January, he confirmed that that was for December and that I must ask for a refund.
      they never reimbursed my payment.
How could one have paid for the coverage month in the middle of the month?

The network is good because it's the Blue Cross federation, but Care First does not do a good job on their side. Wait times are quite long when calling... at least 20 minutes. For a simple address update, there's no online option. I must spend my time and their time on the phone to find out the update must be made by my employer's HR department. They submitted a request to Care First weeks ago, and still no change.
I surely hope I never need to do anything more complex than an address change.

Carefirst is the worst insurance company on the planet. They are denying me coverage of a medicine at the dosage I've been taking for 10 years, and which has kept me in remission. Now I may go blind, lose my job, my health, and my house. I feel like they are taking everything from me and that I have nothing to lose.
