On 08/22/23, I brought my car to Elco Chevrolet Service *********** because, most times, the vehicle has to be jumped after shutting it off. After Elco diagnosed vehicle, I was told the battery tested good, the *** was good, but the *** needed to replaced. I googled *** repair and the things that were listed as symptoms, was not happening with my vehicle. So the mechanic spoke with me explaining his theory. He also smelled like alcohol, which I mentioned to my service advisor, *************************, and he stated that it was hand sanitized I was smelling. I couldn't afford to pay $990 at the time, so I took my vehicle home until I had the money. About a half mile from ****, I heard a loud rattling coming from under the hood, so I pulled over into the strip mall parking lot and raised the hood. I took a video of the black belt flying around in the air. The car would start up, but steering wheel wouldn't turn at all and car had to be towed. On 09/12/23, I had vehicle towed back to ***** Elco to for the *** repair and to replace the serpentine belt, since I now had the money to pay for the repair. After dropping off car, I received one call after another from service advisor w/addt'l issues. 1st he said, when the belt broke, it got caught in the alternator so I need a new alternator. I agreed to it even though the video clearly shows belt flying in air and not caught in alternator. Next, he called and said something couldn't be connected to the alternator b/c something was missing on engine, even though, they had no issues repairing alternator Jan 2021. After replacing ***, car was still having same issues so NOW they say its the ***., that ck'd fine at diagnosis. Now its up to $3,000 if repaired. I refused because ATP they're just guessing while repair bill is increasing and it's just a guessing game. So now I have to pay over $2K for repairs BUT MY CAR STILL HAVE SAME ISSUES. I contacted mgr, ******************* on 9/22/23 and 10/3/23 and left messages and no response

Thank you for bringing the concerns of ********************************* to our attention. While attempting to diagnose any automotive electrical issue, we follow ************** repair guidance by isolating the problem to a specific source. This process first involved replacing the **** The *** replacement is the next step in fixing ******************************** electrical issue. The broken belt was a completely separate repair issue. We understand the expense and time involved with her repair, but when dealing with an unknown electrical problem we have to follow ************** schematics to isolate and fix the issue.

At the initial diagnosis, which was completed by the Elco mechanic, the mechanic stated, "viewed request in *** n the crank request showed every time. ******** also said, very intermittent crank request in *** n recommended replacement.  So if the *** didn't show any issues at initial diagnosis, why does it need to be replaced, now?  What they're saying now is contradicting what I was told initially.  I was never told, "WE THINK" the problem is the **** I was told, that WAS the problem and the service guy, *************************, asked the mechanic to explain to me why the *** was the electrical issue.  If the mechanic would've stated he wasnt sure if the *** would fix the issue, then I would not have agreed to replace the ****  NEVER....It makes no sense....

And why should I have to pay over $900 for an *** that didnt need replacing?

    it's a rip off....

    Customer Answer

    Date: 10/20/2023

I REJECT the response received from Elco Chevrolet because it's a bunch of c***  He said, in his response, the process first involved replacing the ****  And the *** replacement is the next step in fixing electrical issue.

Well, it contradicts was stated on the diagnosis stated on the service repair sheet, which Ive attached. And if you're not sure and that additional repairs would be needed, then I should've been informed, initially, so I can make the decision of repairing my vehicle.  I was only told about an issue with the *** and nothing else. I was also told the *** was working properly at initial diagnosis.

Since the *** is not the problem, the I should not be charged for the part or the labor to replace the part and would like the $990.00 removed from the invoice.

i honestly doubt I even needed an alternator when alternator was replaced by them in Jan 2021.  I asked for serpentine belt to be replaced, not the alternator. I was told when the belt popped, it got caught in the alternator, but I have a video to show thats not true.  I will upload the video, as well.

********************************* had an engine replacement completed by another repair facility. During this repair, the pulleys were improperly replaced. This caused the belt failure that then wrapped around the alternator (we have a photo if requested). We will be glad to fix previous engine work by a different business, but ELCO is not at fault for this previous repair. As mentioned before, we follow ************** guidance on diagnosis and repair procedures. Thank you.

On 08/22/23, Elco Chevrolet diagnosed vehicle for $179.88 and stated, "Viewed crank request in *** and crank request shows every time".  They also viewed crank request in *** and recommended *** replacement. On 9/12/23, took vehicle to get *** replaced. The diagnosis did not state that they "think" this is the problem nor does it state, there could b another issue for vehicle not starting without being jumped nor did service advisor indicate there could be another issue other than the *** module. If they would've told me, they werent sure, I would not have agreed to an *** repair.  After they replaced ***, vehicle still needs to be jumped to start n I was then told, now its the *** when diagnosis states, *** checks every time. See attached copy.  Im asking that you either repair my vehicle to working condition as stated in diagnosis OR replace my *** with the original *** when vehicle was towed in and remove the *** parts and labor charges from my repair bill.
The customer should be informed, if they are not aware of the problem and have to play guessing games to figure it out.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 12/06/2023

On 8/22/23, car was diagnosed due to vehicle having to be jumped after shutting off. Diagnosis determined battery tested good. Checked for power at starter S terminal. Checked for power at starter relay none present. Viewed crank request in *** and crank request showed every time. Viewed crank request in *** and very intermittent crank request and replacement was recommended. On 9/12/23, had car towed to Elco to replace ***, per diagnosis for $990.00. After replacing ***, car still had same issue and required a jump to start vehicle. So now, I'm told that it needs a *** and I declined work, when the *** tested fine at the initial diagnosis and is stated on the diagnosis sheet, which I've attached. I was not told that they THINK it was an *** issue or that they would start with the *** because they weren't sure of the issue or anything of the sort. If I would've been told they did not know what was wrong with the vehicle, I would not have agreed to replacing the ***. Therefore, I'm requesting my car either my vehicle be in total working condition OR remove the *** and replace it with the original *** when vehicle was towed to repair shop on 09/12/23 and remove the cost of the new ***, as well as the labor for replacing the *** from my bill, as it's obvious it didn't need replacing since it did not put the car in working order. I'm not paying for Elco repair shop to make repairs to my vehicle while they guess what repairs are needed. What was the purpose of the $179.88 diagnosis that I paid on 08/22/23? It would be different if the service advisor would've said we're not sure what's going on with your vehicle and we'd like to start with replacing the ***, but none of that was communicated to me. This is my third complaint for the same issue and the issue is still has not been resolved.

We are at an impasse with this complaint. Thank you.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 05/09/2024

Car diagnosed on 9/22/23 as it would not start without being jumped, even though, it had a new alternator and battery. Diagnosis stated ******** shows crank request every time. ******** intermittently shows crank request and I was told an *** module was needed. I was not told, they think this is the issue, but this is the issue. Had they not been certain, I would not have gotten car repaired, at all. While they had car and BEFORE telling me, car still had same issue after replacing ***, I was told belt was wrapped around alternator and it needed replacing. So I approved replacement still unaware that replacing *** didn't resolve INITIAL problem. Because again, I would not have replaced the alternator had I known replacing the *** wasn't going to repair initial complaint. A few days later, I receive a call from service advisor saying *** replaced but car still has same issue and now needs BCM replaced, after it checked ok in initial diagnosis. I was never told, because this is an electrical issue, we have to continually try different repairs and you spend more money than the initial quote before vehicle is repaired, properly. So, it's trial and error until it's repaired. I should've been told everything upfront, but wasn't. So, I've spent $2,315 for repairs and my car still has same issue as when I brought it in. I want my car repaired and to not have to get it jumped every time I want to drive it. When I went to pick it up, they had to jump it to give it to me and when I turned ignition off, car would not start and key was stuck in ignition, so I left car at **** since it's not repaired properly.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 05/09/2024

My vehicle is currently at **** as I never drove it home after paying the full amount of $2,315.31 on 2/26/2024.  The mechanic had to jump the battery to get car running but once I turned the key off, the vehichle would not restart and key is stuck in ignition and sitting in Elco's parking lot. Someone from Elco Chevrolet called me a few weeks ago informing me I need to move my vehicle because it's parked in an area where the salesfloor **** park their cars at ****. But I haven't moved my vehicle. I just cant fathom removing my vehicle that they were suppose to repair thats not repaired

if vehicle has a brand new alternator, brand new battery, n brand new ECM, why isn't it starting without requiring a jump to start it?

Thank you for bringing the concerns of ******************************** to our attention. The description provided by the customer is not true and we have video evidence of ********************************* abandoning her car on our lot. Upon receipt of her vehicle by our ******, the car was running and ********************************* moved the vehicle two spaces to the front, turned off the engine, and left the car. After several unsuccessful attempts to contact the customer, we contacted the ************************** We were advised to have it towed which we did so. ****************-Willliams can claim her vehicle from ******** Towing. With regards to her service problems, we follow ************** guidance on diagnosis and repair procedures. This was completed and repaired but ******************************** decided to leave her car on private property.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 05/17/2024

Yes, the ****** had to jump my vehicle to give it to me. That's the only way my vehicle would work and the reason I brought it to Elco for repair. When the ****** gave me my vehicle, I asked him if I could leave it there because I wanted to get someone to follow me as I drove my second vehicle to **** and he said YES.  When I turned off vehicle, I couldnt remove the key or start up the engine.  Again, I did not abandon the vehicle. Why would I abandon my vehicle after paying $2,000 for repairs.  Yes, I did receive a voice mail saying I needed to move my vehicle because it was parked in an area where the sales staff parked vehicles but I was out of town because my dad was sick and unfortunately died and I was busy dealing with all that. I did return the service advisor's call, the very next day after he left me a message. He did not answer and I LEFT HIM A VOICE MAIL.  When the service advisor left me ONE voicemail, he did not say my vehicle would be towed as I still have his voice mail message. So not only did I pay $900 for an ECM repair that did not repair my vehicle, I now have to pay tow fees when I was not made aware that my vehicle was going to be towed.  This is wrong on so many levels. He's saying my car was repaired, if it was repaired, why did the ****** have to jump my car to get kt started to bring it to me which is the exact same reason I brought it to Elco for repairs.

I feel totally ripped off and taken advantage of as no one informed me my car would be towed as I could've had a friend pick it up while I was out of town burying my father.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 05/17/2024

I've attached a copy of the voice mail message from the service advisor at Elco Chevrolet. He did not inform me that my vehicle would be towed and he only contacted me one time AFTER I paid the $2,315.31 for total repairs. I contacted him the very next day and he didn't answer. I left him a voice mail asking him what can be done to get my vehicle repaired since it still had the same problem when I brought it in. If it was diagnosed n the diagnosis said I needed an ECM module that would cost $900 n after replacing the **** *************************** said that did not fix the problem so it obviously didnt need to be replaced and I should've been refunded that money or they should've used the money to replace their next suggestion of replacing the ****  Am I suppose to continue paying for repairs they "think" will fix the problem, but no guarantees?? I left the car there because my car was not repaired and I wasnt sure how to handle it. This is my 2nd or 3rd time filing complaint with BBB for same issue and was contemplating getting an attorney because I feel I was taken advantage of. But my vehicle was never abandoned. You dont pay $2300 for repairs and then abandon it...makes no sense and he's only saying that to justify towing it WITHOUT INFORMING ME MY VEHICLE WOULD BE TOWED!

    To whom it may concern,

This is my response to Elco Chevrolet for the response they provided to me on Friday, 05/17/2024.  The Code is 65739014BFD80 and either Elco Chevrolet is not understanding my complaint or playing like theyre not understanding my complaint.

I initially brought my car to them for a diagnosis because it would not start without the battery being jumped.  Their diagnosis indicated the *** module checked every time, but the *** module needed to be replaced and it would could a little over $900.00.  I didnt get the work completed at the initial diagnosis, but brought the car back after getting the money together.  I was not told, they think this is the problem or theyre not sure what the specific problem is or anything of the sort because had I been told that, I would not have gotten car repaired.

So after they replaced the *** module, it did not fix the problem and the service advisor, ***************************, stated well it needs a *** module and I refused the repair.  And I refused it because had I known they did not know what the issue was, I would not have replaced the *** module.  And since my vehicle had same problem after replacing the *** module, shouldnt I either get a refund for the part since it obviously didnt need to be replaced OR take that money and use it to replace the *** module?

The manager responded by saying I abandoned my car at **** after the ported gave me my running car.  Yes, the ****** gave me a running car, but to get it running, the ****** had to jump the battery on my car to get it to run and once I parked the car and turned it off, the car was dead and ignition wouldnt turn and key was stuck in the ignition, which is the reason I brought my car to Elco in the first place.  And I asked the ****** could I leave my car while I try to get someone to either give me a ride or drive one of my vehicles, but after I parked it and it and tried to re-start it, I was truly disgusted and trying to determine how to handle after paying Elco $2,315.00 for repairs.  In addition to the *** module, I also had unrelated work done.  I got a brand new alternator and the fan belt replace because while driving home, after it was initially diagnosed, the fan belt popped and the service guy at Elco said the belt was wrapped around the alternator and alternator would have to be replaced.  And I WAS TOLD THIS PRIOR TO KNOWING THAT REPLACING THE *** MODULE WASNT GOING TO REPAIR MY PROBLEM.  Again, because had I known, the *** module would not get my car back to working condition, I would not have replaced the *** module, the alternator, or the belt.  So now, Ive spent $2315.00 for repairs and my vehicle is still not in working condition.  So at this point, Im totally disgusted and dont know if I should try to resolve through BBB, again, as this is my second time trying to resolve with no success or if I should obtain an attorney.

Why would I abandon my vehicle after spending $2,315.00 for repairs?

The manager also stated that the service advisor left me several messages stating my car needed to be removed or it would be towed.  The service advisor did leave me a message on 4/18/2024 saying he was just giving me a call cause they still have my car out here parked and I have it parked in the parking lot for sale cars and he asked me to return his call.  Not once did he inform me that my car would be towed, not once, as I have a copy of the voice mail message.  So I returned his call the next day at ************ and left a message since he did not answer.  I also called again on 05/01/2024 and left a message because Im still trying to determine how my car can be repaired.

Had I not submitted another BBB complaint, I would not have known my car had been towed by ******** Towing company.  So when I called ******** Towing, I was told my vehicle is at the Eureka location and that it would cost $635.00 if I picked it up on Friday, May 17, 2024.  So now, in addition to $2315.00 of repairs, I have to pay another $635.00 plus $35.00 per day until my vehicle is picked up because no one informed me they were towing my vehicle.

I feel like Ive been taken advantage of in so many ways and I bet if I was a man, they never wouldve done any of this.  This is totally unacceptable.

    SOLUTION:

I should not have to pay the $635.00 plus dollar to the towing company as I wasnt informed my vehicle would be towed

My car should be properly repaired by Elco and if replacing the Body Control Module is needed to get my car running, then they need to incur the cost to fix my vehicle

Or they need to refund me the $900 I paid for them to replace the *** module that wasnt the problem as they said it was when they diagnosed my vehicle

We purchased a used vehicle back in January 2022, a 2015 Jeep Wrangler with 54,xxx miles. During the transaction, the Finance Manager sold us a warranty with the promise of loaner vehicles when service was needed. Given the decent mileage, we didn't think we would need it but opted to purchase to protect ourselves in case something were to happen.

In the year that we have owned this vehicle, it has now been in to Elco Chevrolet 5 times. Based on the research and reviews/complaints I have read recently, this is a common theme with used vehicles purchased at Elco. My experience with their Service Department has been awful each time.

The 1st time I visited was at the request of sales to correct an issue that was promised during the transaction, and the service advisor argued with me on why it was brought to them and not a Jeep dealer. Then, I was told they know longer have a loaner program (even though that was part of the warranty we purchased). Even after management got involved, I still walked in and was ignored for over 10 minutes in a room full of service advisors and had to call their manager from my cell phone in front of them. Every time I have to come in to have this vehicle serviced, after only 1 year and 4,xxx additional miles driven, I have problems with their customer service. And obviously, the vehicle still has not been repaired correctly (hence 5 trips).

And now, there is another mechanical issue with this vehicle, a problem with steering. I called 1st thing Monday morning, 3/20, to make an appointment and to my surprise, no loaner or room available. I was told I would receive a call back in a couple days. Four days later, and still no call!!

DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE FOR SERVICE to Elco Chevrolet! In fact, I would think twice about purchasing a used vehicle from them - someone is not checking these vehicles.

December 17th 2022. My family purchased a vehicle after taking delivery we noticed a large oil stain on the driveway caused by neglect from the maintenance department not installing an oil fill cap. Notified the dealership immediately of the issue. Repeatedly heard I'm sorry and I will get someone out there ASAP. The solution for a multi-million dollar company was to send an employee with brake parts cleaner to remedy the situation ( a miss-use of an aerosol product) to clean up a hazardous material spill. Have gone back and forth with the dealership for 2 weeks trying to get a resolution. Latest attempt by the dealership advised they could not find the stain which is over 2ft in diameter.

I am rejecting this response because: I have been in contact with ELCO about the situation since 12/19, when they cleaned the engine bay of the vehicle. I was told this would it be taken care of the same day, even at one point, it was stated it was taken care of. I have been repeated told that it will be corrected. The solution they continue to offer, requires dry pavement, not sure as to why, and the misuse of chemicals, and will likely not fully resolve the situation. Additionally, the delay is causing further damage as the oil stain is spreading.  They have improved communication, but have not actually taken any action to correct their mistake, nor have they provided any type of documentation in writing stating that they will in fact correct their mistake.

    Sincerely,
