I went to **** ***** to have our corporate taxes (The ElderCare Companies) completed on 2/2/22. Last year our taxes were filed late so I wanted to be certain that our 2021 taxes were not late. I explained to him that we could not be late again & face any penalties. **** assured me that there would be no problem with the timeframe since I came in early & we have a very simple filing. He said it could be e-filed & I didn't even have to be there in person. When I didn't hear from Bill, I contacted him on 3/7/22 and left him a message in the general mailbox. On 3/9/22 my husband went in for cancer surgery so I was busy caregiving however I called again on 3/11/22 and left another message. Although I didn't hear from ****, I was confident he would take care of our filing. On 3/20/22 **** finally returned my call & left a message without any information. I called him back on 3/21/22 and asked why I hadn't heard from him and he said that although our taxes were complete, he did not file them because he had not spoken with me. He said he had tried to call me & my phone was disconnected & my email didn't work. I said that's impossible. I have had the same mobile number since 1993, He also had my office phone number since I gave him my business card again, I receive emails daily & he had all my contact info from last year, He proceeded to ask me for my birth date which I questioned since I had given it to him on 2/2/22 because he said had needed it to do our return. He called me back a half hour later saying he could not find the birth date I had just given him. He asked for my email, which I reminded him again that he had all my contact info from 2/2/22 & last year, nothing had changed & why was he having such an issue? I questioned him if he was just getting to our taxes, he said "oh no". He then filed our taxes late and we received a penalty of $840 from the IRS due to his negligence in getting our taxes filed, the one thing I tried to avoid by going to him early.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

The reason I remain dissatisfied is that although H&R Block told you they would reach out for me, they never, not once since I filed the complaint, emailed me or called. If they can provide documentation that they reached out for me I would love to see it. That's their operations, there is no follow through. I would like this matter continued since I did not hear from them, at all.

I am rejecting this response because: I am attaching the letter that our company received from the IRS as requested by H&R Block. To date, I have not received any contact from their district manager, Nan, no messages or emails. My phone number is the same ***** ******** (is working and has been operational for 23 years, not disconnected as their accountant claimed as his excuse for not getting in touch with me. They have had this contact number for two years working on our taxes. I can also be reached by email at: ***********************; ******************************* or **********************. There is literally no reason that they can't reach me. This is a continued problem of theirs stating that "they tried". I would like to see the proof of their contact however at this point I would just like our business matter resolved with the IRS.

This business has failed to return money that was took out my account 5300. This occurred in May and the foreign agents located in the Philippines have failed to do their job duties. I have reported this to Office Of Comp Controller and the Police. I will not stop until my money is replaced. I’ve been going through this since May I have been going through so much hassle constantly sending over paperwork to emails and writing letters ! I’m a single mother and I’m exhausted. I will never let this business file my taxes again because of this situation. I will continue to stray others from using this company. They are failing to issue me a credit from the money that was took from my account in May! I have suffered tremendously from this situation and can’t believe this bank is allowed to break rules of the United States Code for banking regulations. The contract for emerald card services is null and void because HR BLOCK AND THEIR AGENTS HAVE BROKEN LAWS! I am taking this to federal court. I was told by their agent that there is no investigation department and that there are no supervisors when I requested to speak with that department. Is this true HR BLOCK ? I have already made WRAL NEWS aware of everything that’s been done since May. All of the phone calls with your agents ! Even the calls to the main corporate. This has to stop and I hope you all suffer the same way my family has suffered from the 5300 that was taken from us! My name is ****** ******** and businesses like this should no longer be able to exist! I will not stop until I get my money returned ! Nobody cares about the damage that’s been done to my son and family. We have lost everything!

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:Stating that they have not recieved any new documents from me would be false and misleading. At this point discussing my claim with ******* **** has gotten me nowhere. As I’ve already spoken to her and advised her briefly of how my money was stolen and she simply said they will not approve my claim until they understand how my money was stolen from my account if I had not given anyone the pin to my card. I thought that was there job to investigate the claim. Not mine being that I’m the victim here. I have not recieved the evidence that was used to deny my claim and I’ve asked for it several times. I have no reason to speak with there financial advisor because she will keep accusing me of things without having any evidence or fact. This has been very stressful to say the least. I’ve had my money stolen and for whatever reason my claim keeps getting denied due to the lack of an investigation being done on there behalf. Again I have not recieved any evidence used for them to deny me of my money being returned as of October 3 2022.

I have been having h&R Block prepare my tax returns since 2017. I would take my documents and drop them off, then they would call me to come back and sign and file them. It worked good for me because I don't know the slightest thing about taxes. And the had the piece of mind coverage to handle any problems that might come up. In June irecived a letter from the irs stating they were auditing my 2021 return and needed additional documentation. As required by the piece of mind contract I uploaded the letter to h&R Block. On June 21st, I was contacted by a lady from a wichita office of h&R Block. She texted me a link to send her the documents that were needed by the irs. She said she was going to respond to the letter with the documents that were requested and then file a amended return to correct the problem. She also informed me that I was not qualified to file as head of household. H&R Block has recommended that I file as head of household every year they have done my taxes. The benefit being I could claimed the earned income credit that way. I uploaded the documents to her and never heard from her again. In July I recived another letter from the irs. This letter stated they had made a determination on my audit. They never recived a a response, so, they disqualified me from ALL tax credits I should have been entitled to, including stimulus payments. Leaving me with a balance owed of $16201.18. This amount is gaining interest and penalties at the rate of 40%. I have called, but most of the time the message says the office is closed. If I do get someone on the phone they take a message and No one returns the call. I have emailed andsent secure messages from there app, but still nothing. I am going to have to pay for someone to fix all this when I have already payed them for it. So far the total is $18,823.06. This includes the fees for filing 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 incorrectly.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: Mr ***** called me twice and never left a message. The following day, Mr ***** emailed me with 2 phone numbers that gave me the same closed message that I have been getting since July. I replied to the email, and told him I could not answer the phone at work, but can email, and text. But again, no response came.

As mentiond before, it has been 3 months. I have got a new letter from the irs with a final determination, and a garnishment of my wages. The letter clearly states to contest the determination, I need to file a motioning tax court. So, if you amend my return, it will only cause more problems.

I asked for a refund of my fees for tax preparation because your company prepared them incorrectly. Not for an audit. As a matter of fact the IRS is charging me $2600 for incorrect information on my tax return. So I would like for you to refund my money, and leave my taxes alone so I might be able to feed my family again sometime soon.

I am rejecting this response because:For the sake of transparency, could you please use number figures when referring to money being refunded? It displays a better picture and more understanding. Also, because transparency is most likely the cause of the brake down in this situation.

To be transparent on my end, I am asking for the return of my money that I have lost due to the mishandling of my tax returns.
      Total $18,823.06.
Tax preparation fees and piece of mind
      (Witch is completely useless)$2621.88
The money that I now owe the IRS that I would not owe and be garnished if it wasn't for this. $16201.18

I have already decided to not ask for any of my tax attorney fees that I will have to pay or other damages like, not being eligible for certain tax credits any more due to the IRS thinking I committed fraud. And the cost to replace all of my original documents that were never returned to me. So I feel I am being perfectly fair in asking to recuperate the amount I am due. $18823.06

Thank you for your time and quick action to this matter. It has been going on for a very long time on my end. I disabled veteran, with PTSD, the stress and anxiety this situation has caused my family and I some major problems. The sooner we can put this behind us,the better.

I had my taxes done by a Tax Consultant at HR Block for last year (2021). The tax consultant gave me information on an IRS code related to a Tax Credit for COVID-19. The tax consultant never added the tax credit to my tax return. I qualified for the tax credit as I was in Isolation in the hospital in September 2021. The Tax credit was good from January 2021 - September 2021. So I definitely qualified. I called HR Block customer service to schedule an appointment to go in to have an amended tax return done. I called and spoke to the Internal Revenue Service about this tax credit, and was told that I qualified for this tax credit, and in order to get a check in the mail I would have to do an amended tax return, and the Internal Revenue Service would issue me a check. I had an appointment on 8/2/2022 at 5pm to have the amended tax return done. I met with a tax consultant , and appeared they had no knowledge of the tax credit for COVID, but was in the paperwork that I was provided. I had a long conversation with a Mr. **** *** of HR Block, and he had a difficult time too understanding the paperwork. I was asked to leave my paperwork there, and that they would contact the Internal Revenue Service, and then do an amended tax return. I was told they would be contacting me back. On Tuesday 8/9/2022 I called the office where I had my appointment to get the amended tax return done, and when I called I could not reach the tax consultant that provided me his business card I called customer service for HR Block and registered a complaint with them. Case Number 13137352. There was no answer by anyone at the office. The tax credit is for $511 dollars a day for 10 days. Totals up to $5,110.00. I was told that it could take up to 5 business days to get a phone call back by customer service. I mentioned I should get a complete refund on my taxes plus the $5,110.00 tax credit

I am rejecting this response because:  I was told by customer service that Natalie was going to call me about this matter and has never called me.  This is completely unsatisfactory.  I was told by the Tax Analyst named **** *** that he was going to work on my Amended tax return, and would be calling the IRS, and told me this in person, and instead he locked up my copy of my tax return and never worked on the Amended Tax Return.  This is wrong and very poor customer service, and the General District Manager has had several emails sent by customer service to call me, and that has never happened.

This is exactly why a Police Report was filed for Theft of Services / Theft against HR Block for taking my tax return, and doing nothing about satisfying the customer.

VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND COULD NOT DO AN AMENDED RETURN, TOOK MY ONLY COPY OF MY TAX RETURN.  A LEFTTER WAS SENT TO THE PRESIDEMT OF HR BLOCK, AND ALSO TO THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT.

THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO DO AS PROMISED MY AMENDED TAX RETURN AS PROMISED BY THE TAX ALANYST.  HR BLOCK HAS A HISTORY OF BAD SERVICES.  I WAS WORKING IN CANADA AND HR BLOCK COULD NOT DO A FOREIGN TAX RETURN.  ALL SHOWS THAT THEY LACK GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS, AND CANT SATISFY THE CUSTOMER.

I am rejecting this response because:  I have sent countless emails , text messages, and have left numerous voice messages too.  I have not spoken to ******* in regardds to the letter received by the IRS.  This matter still have not been resolved, and my only copy of the Tax Return is locked up at the HR Block Office.

I have sent certified letters to both the President of HR Block, and the legal department about this situation and what appened with the Tax Analyst telling me that he would be calling the IRS and would be working on my Amended Return and instead he locked up my tax return and left for the Tax season.  This is completely unprofessional and has been ongoing with HR Block since August 2022.

I have never spoken to this person Natalie, and I have not received my check in the mail.  Each time I call HR Block customer service they keep issuing me new case numbers.  Nobody seems to care about the customer and working with the customer on any tax issues.

This is why there are so many complaints filed against HR Block.  Unsatisfactory !!!!

We have been going to Hr block since 2016. This year we received a letter from the Irs stating we owed over 3 thousand dollars from our 2020 taxes. After printing out everything from the hr ock website (our account) the reason for the penalties was because the tax preparer omitted all of my 1099s. We found these 1099s on the account under a file called documents. So they absolutely were given to the preparer at the time. The reason we chose Hr was the 100 percent accuracy guarantee. They have not stood by this selling point at all. I have been given the run around for over 1 month. The ammendment was done for free at another HR block location with one of the rudest preparers I have ever had. I had no idea what to look for in 2020 with inherited funds and this is why we chose a "professional"tax place. The original taxes were prepared in Vallejo (Sonoma Blvd office) I have been given a total of 4 case numbers from customer service. Each time being told I would be contacted etc. I have never had one call back from the general manager of this location. Each time HR customer service tells me it is noted I have been contacted. Or that the case was closed for various reason..Then that the case is pending. It has been one month of dealing with weekly phone calls and the run around. According to the website 100 percent accuracy or the penalties and interest are refunded by HR block. So what is really going on with this? I am asking for compensation for their error (all documents are on HR block) and an actual call from Vallejo CA General manager . It was not us who did not provide the documents for our taxes. It was HR block who omitted them while preparing these taxes.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: Yes they did have the district manager contact me and I was sent a refund of the tax prep for 2020 and the 193 in interest. How a multimillion dollar company can deny the little people compensation for additional taxes owed because of a preparer error is ridiculous. If you do not purchase their peace of mind then you are out of luck. So they want to charge you to make sure their 100 percent accuracy guarantee is w aptly that? No

So I have to come up with 5k, 2 years later for an error made by them and it took 2 months to even get the interest repaid to me. It's honestly bad business to tout the accuracy guarantee and then rely on a scam of oh you must purchase the extra guarantee for us to really correct our error. Spray about your luck little people.

We pay a hefty price to have a "professional" do our taxes

then are blamed for not realizing the error on their part. If I knew how to do taxes I wouldn't have to hire them!

In response to Ms. *****'s rebuttal, per our accuracy guarantee we state we will reimburse you for penalties/interest you incur from an error made by our tax pro.   Additionally, we will refund you for your tax prep fees which we have done both. As a result, we consider this matter resolved. We assure you that we take the concerns of our client's seriously and make every effort to resolve matters thoroughly and fairly.

I am rejecting this response because:

      Regards,

Yes your business absolutely refunded the prep fee.

HR block SELLING  peace of mind is a joke. You want us to pay for errors that your company makes? Make that make sense.

Penalties? Yes call it what you want but owing 5k 2 years later after one of your tax preparers did a huge error feels like a penalty to me.

But i get it now...If we would of BOUGHT protection and there were errors then your business takes responsibility by pating it back.. A fast way to make some extra cash off the average Joe who rely on the so called tax specialist to do their jobs right and NOT have to buy some "peace of mind".

On February 13, 2022 my husband and I had an appointment to file our taxes with H&R Block. After dropping off all of our tax forms we were called back by our preparer to be told there was an error on my W2 in that my employer withheld taxes for the wrong state. We were told to discuss this with employer which we did and a correction was filed by my employer and revision documents were sent to preparer on 3/24/22. Preparer came back and stated that we would owe state of VA, however at no time mentioned we would also need to file in state of NC where error occured so I could recover these funds to cover taxes owed to state of VA. To date I have not been given any information on how to recover these funds yet many failed attempts to reach the local office stemming from April -June. We were even told by preparer that we could come in for an appointment for some tax advice only for her to disregard our emails and attempts numerously. I was told at one point that one Wanda, our preparer was the only one who could help us and she was on vacation for a few months. We patiently waited and now recently we recieved a past due notice from state of VA with a tax penalty and bill. We have never recieved any paper documents or direction on what to do for our state taxes being owed as this is the first time we have ever had to pay into the state. After no other option I contacted corporate only to be given the run around as well. A case was created on 6/28/22 case # ********. I was told I would get a call from the local manager of this office within 72 hours. I didn't get a call as of today 7/6/22 and am being told by Arianna, the gal at corporate who opened my case that I would need to wait an addtional 24 hours for another manager to call me back. I tried to resolve at local level, now at the corporate level and am being given the run around all while the tax penalties continue to add up.

I am rejecting this response because: The statement made by Judy is inaccurate. I have yet to recieve an email to date. I have spoken to a manager in the Fairfax, VA location, but only after the District manager failed to call me on Monday July 25,2022. The gentleman in Fairfax ( George) stated that he would file the appropriate taxes, but has yet to produce any paperwork showing this has been done. I have also not been seet any type of agreement that they will be refunding the interest/late penalties I incurred as a result of their lack of follow through on the federal and state side. I have supplied all documentation as requested, but still waiting on this resolution to come through.

I am rejecting this response because:as previously stated NO ppwk was provided with instructions. Everything was done virtually so I’m sure they will get me with some “disclaimer” but after paying almost $300 for a “professional” to file my taxes & not verbally discussing options after repeated attempts on my part , in my opinion is unprofessional and should be warning sign for all to avoid this company. When I have my refund in hand I’ll consider this matter complete & we can go our separate ways.

I have had to tell every person that I’ve dealt with at this company how to do their job down to the District manger . Unanswered calls, unanswered emails at every level. Disappointing  business practices to say least. Last communication from District manger specifically told me that my request for penalty fee would most likely be rejected. So again, not resolved until my demands are met .
Full refund for filing fees , late fees & interest for failure to instruct or provide physical ppwk from the start.

I filed my individual taxes earlier this year for 2021 and paid HR Block for their "Peace of Mind Guarantee", which, per their website, stipulates "In the event we made an error on your tax return that results in you owing additional taxes, we will reimburse you up to $6,000." I received a letter from the IRS in early May 2022 stating that my federal tax form had a mistake. I called HR Block in early May to inform them that my HR Block tax preparer didn't catch this mistake (and I paid extra to have an HR tax preparer review my forms). HR Block told me over the phone that I should pay the amount of the mistake ($198.14) to the IRS and HR Block would look into reimbursement me after the fact and instructed me to email a picture of the IRS form asking for $198.14 in payment to [email protected]. I emailed that address three times (5/17, 5/23, and 5/26) and have yet to receive a response and it's been over 6 weeks since I first emailed and 7 - 8 weeks since my first call to HR Block. It's a scam for HR Block to offer a service "Peace of Mind" where I had to pay extra to essentially purchase insurance, but then they ghost me when it's time for them to pay up for their mistake.

H and R Block did my taxes and messed up with the voucher to the State and Federal revenue offices. I spent hours resolving the problem with the state only to learn that the same problem exists with the Federal IRS. I have files my taxes using HRBlocks online service for several years. Last year I installed residential solar panels at my home. When filing my taxes I failed to include the renewable energy credit form so I filed an amended return through HRBlock which showed ~$7,000 of additional refund owed for my solar panel installation. When attempting to check the status of my amended return several weeks later I was never able to find any data via the IRS website. So I called HRBlock several months ago ti check and make sure there were no issues, I was told IRS has long lead time and to wait. So I did. Then earlier this month i receive a letter C324 from the IRS indicating they need more info. So I contact HRBlock and opened a case on June 8th. I received an email that same day form them and provided the letter as requested. I was told I would hear back in 5 days. I did not. So Monday, June 20th, I called HRBlock again to see if they needed anything from me. The rep rushed me off the phone, I could barely understand him about out I believe he indicating someone would call me in a day. No one did. So I called again yesterday, June 22nd, and was told there was a note in my file from the 21st that they did not receive my letter but the rep on the phone confirmed they did. Later that day I get an email basically restating what the letter said so I take a look at my return and found what I am nearly certain is the error HRblock made inputting an number on a line that should be blank per the instructions on the form. I reached out to HRBlock advising them of this and they claimed someone with tax prep knowledge would contact me yesterday. No one ever did. HRBlock needs to correct their mistake so I can get monies due to me from the IRS for weeks now. If they lack the personnel knowledge to do so and should not be in the tax preparation business.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: my complaint had nothing to do with the time to receive my refund. I have been patient since February. My complaint has to do with the incompetence of HR Block’s representatives and their refusal as well as inability to review relevant documents. Please reference the 4 attachments which include all documents I mailed to the IRS. As described on the fax cover page, I visited a physical HR Block location and had my amended return reviewed by a tax professional who found MOTE THAN ONE MISTAKE on the 1040x prepared by HR Block. These mistakes in both column A and B of the 1040x are the reason I received the letter 324C last month. These mistakes, which HR Block are responsible for, are also the reason for additional delays outside of the 16 weeks for the remainder of my refund. Therefore, the fact the IRS, and not me, continues to collect interest on monies (>$7000) rightfully owed to me is also the fault of HR Block.

Based on the above response from HR Block online, they continue to refuse or lack the proper personnel to review my return which HAS ERRORS, so this complaint remains valid and I request further  escalation. A formal complaint has been filed with the IRS as documented in the enclosed.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: I filled in the “DIY” software with the correct information as seen on the previously attached renewable energy credit form. That form is correct. I did not fill in the 1040x. HR Block’s DIY software filled in the 1040x which was confirmed to be incorrect per an in office HR block tax professional as stated in my previous response. I have not received my refund from the IRS for the renewable energy credit due to me for my 2021 residential solar installation. I am also still not able to view the status of my return via the IRS’s where’s my refund site. So, I am not sure how HR block knows the status of my return. If my return was accepted it is because of the corrected documents I sent in, fixing the errors HR blocks DIY software made transferring information from the renewable energy credit form to the 1040x. I am also due interest for the renewable energy credit (>$7000 credit). I will keep this complaint open until both my refund for the renewable energy credit and interested owed to my by HR block are resolved.
