In December of 2023 I recieved a notice that my insurance premium for my Ambetter healthcare would increase in 2024 by almost $40 per month. I decided to choose a $250 gift card per an agent at Ambetter from the "My Health Pays" program before making my decision to move to another insurance company. I had earned my gift card for activities within their plan. I called to see when I needed to cancel my insurance so I would not be charged for two insurance premiums. I was told Jan 1, 2024. Shortly after, I received a cancelation notice. I called Ambetter and stated it was not 2024 and still needed insurance for several weeks. Then, in the mail, I received a notice of apology which stated it was a glitch in their system that mailed theses notices out. Now, circling back to my gift card, which I received in Dec 2023 and it is now May 2024, I was going to use my gift card for a purchase and found out that it had a $0 balance! Apparently, when I canceled my insurance, they canceled my gift card that I earned on the Ambetter website. After an angry call, it boils down to lack of communication from them as far as terms of this gift card. I sure wish I had just picked merchandise on their website instead. I won't use them again. Too many phone calls that go nowhere, lack of communication, customer service agents that continually apologize but cannot help you and appear to be outsourced from somewhere. I am not an ill person who runs to the doctor often and feel like I had participated in the health activities they asked of me so, losing this $250 gift card was kind of important to me!I would not recommend Ambetter. If you do, ask questions and keep all correspondence from them.

This company is a scam. My daughter applied for ********* Ambetter contacted her and said she was denied by ******** but automatically enrolled with them. Then she received paperwork from Healthy Blue saying that she WAS approved. So she contacted Ambetter to say she didnt need it because she was approved by ******** after all and they told her Oh thats ok, you can keep both, Ambetter can be supplemental. No mention of insurance premiums, they told her she wouldnt have to pay anything out of pocket. Then we receive a 1095a stating she owes $344 per month! But they refuse to do anything because they say she never contacted them to let them know she had other insurance and that she used the insurance so that means she accepted it. Yeah she used it, thats what health insurance is for! They still signed her up for it without approval and then told her it was no cost. SCAM.

I have made the same amount for 2 years at work, it's been slowing going down in my hours. I was told I make too much for the State Insurance I have always had, and they said Ambetter suits my needs. This insurance does not cover my needs! I'm on several psych medications, and on suboxone. My prescriptions are $25 per bottle! Not only that the Addiction/Mental Treatment I've been doing for a year, is now not covered! I have to pay around $60 per month for this insurance! I'm on HUD housing, Food Stamps, and have subsidizes daycare for my 5 year old daughter. In other words I'm very poor! I went to cancel Ambetter to try to get on something with more coverage, and cheaper. While calling the Health Plan Finder, they informed me that I can't switch insurance because the enrollment period has passed. So if I had canceled Ambetter, I would have been without insurance! Ambetter failed to bring that to my attention while I was cancelling. It took Ambetter 2 hours of transfering me and being placed on hold just to simply cancel my cancelation request. They were getting confused with my simple wording and they thought I still wanted to cancel my insurance. I made heavy notes about this whole interaction. This is upsetting that with my same income, I'm being forced to taper off my medication while paying for it, since I won't be able to afford them or the insurance. When I go off my meds I always end up in the *** No one whats to help me.

I was told i qualified for free health care with ambetter from home state health, however there are no hospitals that accept ambetter insurance where I am currently living at. On top of the no coverage I am told that I have to pay a total of $3800 every year in deductibles before my coverage takes over. The co-pays for any service is outrageous for example a generic prescription copay is $35 & for the brand name prescription is $195. That sounds like extortion to me. I don't have the ability to go and have to pay that kind of money for a service that I most likely won't ever use anyway.

For context I am an emergency physician myself. I am financially secure and I pay all of my bills on time. As an independent contractor, I am forced to purchase my health insurance off of the ACA/Obamacare open market. I have Ambetter health. Due to credit card fraud, I had to change my credit card number and didn't update my payment information in time. My account went delinquent for a month and I had an outstanding balance of 2X my premium. I immediately called with a new card number to fix the problem. They then accidentally charged my credit card for SIX TIMES my premium! This was in October. Since that happened, I have been on the phone with them FIVE times trying to solve this problem. Each call was at least 30 minutes and twice the call was over an hour. Each time I was assured that the problem had been taken care of, but each time another problem arose and nothing was ever fixed. Now I am scheduled for a hip replacement surgery tomorrow and I find out that my account is suspended. No one had tried to call me to explain. I am now on the phone with them again, trying to solve this problem before my hip surgery. I have been on with them for almost 2 hours now. They keep insisting that there is nothing that I can do and it will take over 24 hours to solve this issue. If this happens, I will lose SIX WEEKS OF INCOME. Tens of thousands of dollars because of time that I took off from work for this surgery. In denying this surgery, I won't be able to reschedule for another year. I will have to lose ANOTHER six weeks of income, and I will have to endure my hip pain for another year. It is inexcusable for anyone in America to experience this and if I have to deal with it as a physician, I can only imagine what an average hard-working American has to deal with! They need to be held accountable!

My wife enrolled our family into a plan with Ambetter at least two years ago. We are now having a second child and we learned it was cheaper for me to go on my employer's insurance while my wife and children enrolled into a different plan with Ambetter. Ambetter initially refused to cancel our plan despite multiple phone calls with customer service. Eventually ********************** told me and my wife they canceled my coverage. With my coverage canceled we were told the premium would decrease. Ambetter continued to withdraw the same premium rate for the last month after they said I didn't have insurance coverage and two agents confirmed I no longer had coverage. Seeing that the premium wasn't going down as promised my wife called Ambetter twice and asked two different agents to stop automatic billing. Ambetter responded by increasing the premium further and making an unscheduled withdrawal. Every agent we have spoken with from Ambetter has English as a second language and I believe they all work out of the same call center in India. If I could give a negative star rating I would.

This is the worst insurance I've ever had! After your deductible is met they will deny anything you need done. I'm needing a surgery done and they keep denying it and it's getting to where I have trouble walking but they keep giving me the run around. Marketplace needs to remove them as an option on health insurance. I give them no stars as a rating!

I wouldn't give any stars to this horrible insurance company. DO NOT USE THEM!They will take your premium and then say they haven't received it. Consequently, they will also cancel your insurance and not pay for services that are part of the health plan. They do this with older people and those who have health issues. If you call them, they use a call center in another country (I think ***************) where they don't know what they are doing. HealthCare Marketplace should remove this insurance company as an option to customers.
