I would never recommend Ascension to anyone they are the worst insurance you could ever have. The cost, hidden fees and hoops you have to jump through just to reserve a test are horrendous. Also none of the employees are on the same page. You wait an hour for them to answer the phone, just to get a different reaponse everytime you call. Then when you get to the doctor's they are clueless, and just push you out the door. Please please take my advice, and many others don't pick Ascension for your health insurance. You'll be doing yourself a favor.

We took our 10yo son to the ** to obtain help and were charged 5 times the rate of another regional medical center. I even work for Ascension and cannot understand the discrepancy.

Personally, I have the impression that Amita Healthcare is nothing more than a business. I went to a new doctor I chose from his profile on line. The Amita Healthcare in **********, llinois had more than one office in downtown Park Ridge, and I almost missed my doctor *********** after finding the right medical building. Amita Healthcare has a policy of thirty minutes for a doctor ***********. At the desk I showed my insurance card and ID. Within seconds I entered an office without time to complete any paperwork!.Awful! I had a second *********** with the same doctor and he insulted me since I took a medication for other conditions. He was so ignorant I reported him to my insurance company!.As I mentioned I have the impression that Amita Healthcare provides doctors with more money since Insurance companies do not pay the claims submitted for their services.Under Amita Healthcare doctors are paid higher amounts and work with insurance companies under maybe some contract or who knows what?.The end result is lousy, poor examinations since doctors are able to treat as many patients as possible. Quantity not quality is the bottom line. Of course the patients suffer not Amita Healthcare!Apparently, this will be the system of medical treatment of the present and future!. I pray everyone will not be a victim that practically abuses individuals seeking medical treatment or their health issues!Be Well..........******

Administration seems like they are out to get their employees, they are more concerned with the amount of times a staff member enters a room rather than the quality of care and whether or not the patients needs have been met. Employees are constantly grilled in a 1:1 meeting with their nurse educators, the educators gaslight their employees to attempt to get them to change their perspective on any situation rather than hear the employee out. These 1:1 meetings last two to three hours after the shift is over. Nursing managers are more concerned with appeasing the **************** than focusing on the needs of the staff.

I took my child for a cash pay/ no ins procedure. There were 3 different people prior to the procedure who quoted me the same $4699. 61 price. There were no complications and again no ins to file to alter the quote. To date I have been billed over $20k across multiple account numbers. This includes them billing my 14 year old instead of a "responsible party". Their billing department has given me the run around for months as I've tried to dispute the bill. I wrote a formal letter to *****************, the doctor directly, and the director of business services and still have no resolution. The fact they are billing a child shows incompetence in their billing department. This appears to be a standard billing practice for them based on their lack of correction/ response. I will be reaching out to the **** of ******** Regulatory Affairs and any an all fair practice agencies in addition to this review and complaint with the BBB. I highly suggest you seek any and all medical care anywhere but any Ascension affiliated hospital. If you HAVE to see them ensure you are getting a written quote that doesn't say "estimate." The billing department told me that that means it's understood that could mean the price changes. With no complications or insurance to bill my quote should have been my price. For context, this was a procedure for a dislocated pinky on a 14yr old who is not now nor will ever be an athlete, so I relied on the price quoted to authorize said procedure. Which, was not life threatening or life altering.

Showed up to my in network hospital to deliver my first born with my in network doctor. Chose to get an epidural. At 6cm dilated, I made it a point to ask my nurse if the anesthesiologist was in network, which I was then told yes. As I did my due diligence on everything else far before my due date, I was ready to rock & roll.

I delivered my daughter & got hit with tons of bills. One of those bills being an out of network charge for an epidural. Upon calling to ask why I was billed such a high amount (I have insurance thru my full time job) - they mentioned that every single anesthesiologist at MY IN NETWORK HOSPITAL, was out of network. The contract and employees working at my IN NETWORK hospital, with my IN NETWORK doctors - they had no one in network to administer my epidural. Talk about surprise billing.

This has now been sitting with collections for over a year which makes absolute no sense. I specifically asked, while in labor, if the anesthesiologist was in network. I was told yes. Email upon email & phone calls - time & time again, I tried to get this bill corrected prior to it ever going to collections. And nothing. Money I don't owe because it was never billed correctly now sits with a debt collector.

As it has completely destroyed my 800 perfect credit score (because I've never paid a bill late in my life), my family now struggles with getting a decent interest rate. If St John Ascension & the Anesthesiologists would've done their job correctly, we wouldn't be in this predicament. Absolutely disappointed with how this WAS NOT handled. I would never been in this position if someone did their job correctly.

If I have to do my due diligence, why doesn't your staff have to do theirs?
