I was told when I signed up with Car Shield that I could cancel anytime. However, when I called to cancel the "customer service" agent refused to cancel it. She asked for a reason for the cancellation. I told her I had changed my mind. That wasn't good enough, she wanted a better reason. I told her I heard bad reviews, and the mechanics also said it was a hassle to use them. This agent wanted to lecture me about how the dealerships will lie to people. I told her I was at work and I needed to just cancel it and get back to work. She told me I would have to call back later then so "we can have a conversation". I told her we didn't need to have a conversation, I just wanted to cancel it. She continued to refuse until I listened to her lecture. I had to press the issue to cancel several times. She put me on a long hold, I suppose to force me to waste my time. She spoke to me like I was a disobedient child and I do not appreciate that! Only after I continued to push the issue to cancel this policy did it finally get done. I cannot believe I had to argue with so-called customer service to cancel the policy that I was told I could cancel at any time. I simply told her I changed my mind and it would have stopped there if I did not have to push the issue and insist that it be done. I called back to speak to a supervisor. I was told I had to speak to a customer service agent who would then put in a request for a supervisor to call me back. Guess who I was transferred to. The same ridiculously rude agent that started this whole thing.Business Response

I purchased carshield auto warranty on 5-23-21 from ******* ********* dealer #*******, he assured me that my level of coverage was the same as driving off the lot with a brand new vehicle and that i would be able to take my truck to the dealer of my choice if it ever tears up so a year and two months goes by and I'm thinking i have peace of mind coverage only to find out now that my truck needs a new engine and none of my dealerships will take carshield because they don't pay their bills is what everyone of them told me and carshield only had four mechanics that will take their warranty and two of them are 80 miles away and out of state. So i get it in a shop and the mechanics diagnosed the problem but carshield wants them to tear the engine down further which would cost me $1500 out of pocket if they found any reason to not cover it, i was promised a warranty equivalent to a new vehicle but I've never had to jump through hoops to get something new worked on and i was told i could take it to any shop of my choice which was also a lie, i have since cancelled my policy #********** but i believe since carshield was not honest and upfront with me in the beginning i should be entitled to a full refund of what i have payed to carshield. It is false advertising, promising one thing and doing the opposite.Business Response

As noted on the first three pages of your vehicle service contract, ******** **** ****** (***) is the administrator of your vehicle service contract and has FULL authority over repair procedures, approvals, denials and payments. We have contacted them to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. Per ***' notes your claim has stalled out over a request for RDI. The failure reported by your repair facility is a bent pushrod in cylinder number 2. This was demonstrated on the inspection. The engine looks overall very clean, while *** doesn’t have solid records it does not look like this vehicle struggled from lack of maintenance by any means.
While *** does have everything they need in the inspection to authorize pushrod replacement, your repair facility was requesting entire engine replacement. Your repair facility was instructed to perform TD with YOUR AUTHORIZATION to demo sub-damage to engine. Your repair facility originally seemed as though they would perform this TD, but upon the most recent adjuster follow-up they informed the assigned adjuster that you have authorized an engine replacement and does not want to deal with CarShield anymore. If your repair facility is unwilling to perform TD to demonstrate failure, *** is unable to determine if the engine failure beyond the pushrod is coverable. And now that you have authorized replacement without TD, *** will be unable to determine if a coverable failure of the engine assembly exists.
As a resolution, CarShield will refund your last 10 payments upon execution of a Settlement and Release Agreement. Please email ****************** to confirm the cancellation and refund. Once we receive the email, we will draft the Agreement and email it to you for your review and signature. Long story short, we paid for 6 months in advance for coverage for our used car, when we needed it to cover something it wasn’t covered, called carshield to cancel, they would not cancel or refund money for the remaining coverage, made several calls to resolve this and it was a waist of time, so then we thought ok just wait til policy ends, now we told them to cancel, they charged us 89.00 took it out of acct so I called them again, could not get them to refund money, so I contacted bank about an authorized debit, I also told them they will be reported.Business Response

Complaint CarShield. (CS) Powertain Gold Contract **********, **** **** *** ******* ******* ******* ******** *** vin#******, mileage 149,605, CS claims administered ******** **** ******, phone number ************. Engine light kept coming on, vehicle running poorly. Using vehicle CS warranty, went to CS warranted garage in WV where I now reside. Mechanic ran diagnostic on the engine. Code ***** came up, according to garage means “90% leak in cylinder #2”. Garage contacted CS claim representative ******** **** ****** (CR), who requested engine be broken down to find exact cause. Garage needed my permission to complete due to it’s the only way to detect cause of code, I gave in good faith. Mechanic removed cylinder head, found #2 valve cracked. To repair engine, cylinder head needs to be removed, new one installed. Detailed pictures sent to the CS/CR who denied the claim. The CR’s’s response-car not properly maintained per manual of vehicle maintenance. Not true we have made it a point to keep the vehicle in top running condition, following every requirement in the manual, as suggested by the manufacturer. Garage confirmed, repair is not a wear/tear or adjustment issue. Cost for vehicle repair Labor (16.5 hours) $2211.00, Parts $814.00, total of $3,025.80. Cost for labor high due to engine broken down, and rebuilt to complete repair. Garage contacted CR, who has not seen the vehicle only looked at pictures, explained claim should be covered, but CR from ******** **** ****** again denied claim and requested arbitration. I repeatedly requested response in writing from the CR at ******** **** ****** denying the claim. CS/CR refused anything in writing, saying “it was not necessary." His only resolution to resolve our difference and have CS pay the claim, per the CS/CR is to contact BBB for arbitration. CS/CR given us limited time to contest their denial. I am rejecting this response because:
Carshield brought up another repair company that only had my car briefly and made the first diagnosis on my car I presented evidence that my car had constant maintenance on it they didn't say anything about other documents that was needed they are being unreasonable in doing what they advertised as a extended warranty company. I paid them their money to fix my car and now they are asking for things that might not 100% proof. I can only send what I was given. Car shield asked for maintenance records from October 2021 up to now when my car is not drivable. They are a multi million dollar company they pay people to do there ads way more than what the repair cost are on my car I paid them to fix my car. I did nothing wrong.

CarShield solicited my mother to get extended warranty on her leased vehicle that was still is lease and less than 21K miles. This was done a year ago. Mother is 81 years old and does not understand what she was pitched to sale to her when she did not need it. I am a service Manager at a ***** dealership and know this warranty was not needed at this time. I know some things about aggressive sale tactics to elderly. I would like the so called contract dissolved and moneys returned. Also would want no information of said party not be sold to any other party of any level. On June 13, 2022, my vehicle started to experience some form of failure and became disabled. I had the car towed to the repair facility, where I regularly get maintenance work done. I started the claim process with Car Shield and notified the repair facility to be on the lookout for correspondence or a call from them. I received an email from Car Shield requesting service history records. I go to the repair facility to request the documentation and upload the documents to receive an email stating they need the actual bill of service. I returned to the repair facility to get said documents and emailed them to Car Shield. A few days later, I received another email requesting repair information as if I were the repair facility and called Car Shield to find out why I was receiving the email. The representative acknowledged that the email should have been sent to the repair facility and said they would reroute it. Days go by, I still do not hear anything from Car Shield. I called to find out the status of the claim to find out that they are sending an inspector to the repair facility to assess the issue and will get back to me once the inspector has uploaded their notes within 48 hours. Days go by, I still do not hear from Car Shield. I call Car Shield to inquire about the status of the claim. They responded by saying they are now waiting for the repair facility to send them a picture of another faulty part mentioned during the inspection. It will be 3 months on September 13, 2022, and I still do not have access to my vehicle, have been paying an excessive amount in car rental fees, and this debacle between Car Shield and the repair facility continues. Car Shield has done little to keep me apprised of the claim's status and does minimal leg work in acquiring documentation to support the claim. Since opening the claim, I have had to do much of the work in acquiring documents and calling Car Shield for status updates. Now I am forced to take out a loan to pay for repairs.Business Response

I just had a follow up call from the corporation’s legal department. Still no resolution. I’m over 60 years old and has made me complain twice in my life to this level. It is my recommendation based on my experience that you were buying a policy from Car Shield but may be served by another shell company. I will remain dissatisfied and will never use this company again.Customer Answer

I called before I had the car fixed. I talked to someone there I was told that the work will be covered. Her name was **** ****. I was contacted by their counsel and told Phone records did not show that call??? That’s interesting because it’s the first call I made. And I guess I made up the name **** ****. I am a senior with integrity and would never lie about a $5000.00 bill. I bought My policy from Car Shield and it became part of a shell company in Colorado? I canceled my plan after I realized I had been taken, and of all things- they offered me a discount to stay??? Lots of advertisements about Car Shield. That’s not the company that denied my claim. RUN the other way! I seldom get upset after working in the service business for 50 years. I can’t let this one go.

I took out a Warranty with Car Shield over the phone in April 2019, while I was in **** ****, Iowa purchasing my **** ***** ******** ****** ***. I was told that this vehicle would be covered from bumper to bumper, engine and power train for life and as long as I made the monthly payments. I set-up Auto draft monthly payments and all was well for two years. Then when the vehicle had trouble starting for the first time, I took it into the shop and they determined that the engine needed to be repaired. CAR SHIELD refused to pay for the repair and refused to give me my money back. They lied and said, oh you have a silver package and for that reason your engine is not covered. Keep in mind this description of the package was never mentioned during the purchase, but when it was time to make the repair, they all of a sudden came up with this lie as their reason. I spoke with an attorney who advised me to wait a few months and give them time to decide to do the right thing and call them back, which I did and they said, the case is closed and continued to deduct money from my account every month, until I went into the Bank and reported them as a scam. The Bank was only able to reimburse me for TWO months due to Federal Law. They advised me to file a complaint with the BBB. Note: I spent thousands of dollars for parts to repair the vehicle, thousands on a rental car and thousands on the warranty. THIS WAS A TRUE SCAM.Business Response
