deceptive sales/cancellation information provided by sales representative. when signing up for this extended warranty (7-25-22), i was told I had ONE MONTH to cancel this policy and would receive a full refund for the first month which I was immediately charged for, even though I would be unable to file a claim on this policy as there is a 2 week/500 mile waiting period for the policy to go into effect for payment on a claim. As of 08-25-22 I still have not full-filled the 500 mile requirement. Due to an unforeseen financial situation, I am unable to continue this policy. I contacted Car Shield on the deadline date (8-25-22) to cancel this policy and was TOLD that the deadline had been 8-24-22 ( 1 month is interpreted as 30 days). and that not only was I unable to cancel the policy and get my 1st month's premium back, that as of today (8-25-22) I had been charged ANOTHER month's premium for the next period (8-25-22 to 9-24-22). Both the initial month (7-25-22) and subsequent month's (8-25-22) monthly premium is not refundable! I was never told or informed that their interpretation of one month is not the calendar date, but a strict 30 days. Even their cancellation policy in writing in their contract book (page 17) states a MONTH as the initial period and not what they now state is an absolute 30 days, no exceptions. There is no corporate phone number to contact or to complain to. Everything goes through their 3rd party vendor ***** who states they are just the payment collection vendor and have to interpretation or discretion on Car Shield's policy on time. This company has no PR or Quality Control Office or person that a customer can contact for resolution. SCAM company, no customer resolution office. This policy did not cost them a dime, but they have charged me $167.52 for their mis-representations.

Received mail from Carshield addressed to my 13 year old daughter, who obviously does not own a car. Would like to know how they even got her name in the first place.

This is the second issue I've had with Carshield. They are the worst company I've ever worked with for insurance. RED FLAG... I recommend putting the money in your bank account, saving it to use when you have a repair... or going with another company that doesn't use ******** **** ****** or Car Shield. My wife's **** *** is in their approved shop for a CV axle repair. The shop called them to get the "OK" for the repair. Their jaw dropped when ******** **** ****** (Car Shield Administrator) said "NO, it's not a covered part because it started at the housing" Here is what my contract states: "DRIVE AXLE (Front & Rear): All internally lubricated parts within the Drive Axle housings, including the axle shafts and constant velocity joints. The differential housing, transaxle housing, and final drive housing are covered ONLY if the damage is caused by a FAILURE of any internally lubricated part within the Drive Axle. Electronic components, regardless of location, are not covered." I don't see ANYWHERE in there where it mentions that the CV Axle is not covered if it starts at the boot. And, where do they think CV Axle starts to go bad? It's almost always the boot. They are basically telling the shop that they will cover the axle, but will never need to because they have that remedied by eliminating the causes of it to begin with. Do they want my wife to keep driving it until it falls apart and she kills her and my kids while rolling the car? Why do I spend the $200.00 a month to cover my family for safety reasons when they tell the shop on both repairs that they won't cover some or all of it which I have seen both. If the reasons were legit, it would be fine... but they are not. They are making things up, outside of the normal reading of the contract, to fit their financial needs. I'll see them in ******* County Small Claims Court if they don't get this taken care of with the BBB quick.

August 11, 2022, Car Shield (an extended warranty provider) did not cover $1,682.63 of a total repair bill of $1,856.65. Car Shield covered only $274.02 of the total cost that should have been covered under the Platinum coverage agreement made by recorded telephone with Car Shield agents. I requested the explanation of three offered coverages, then chose the Platinum considering the age of my vehicle, a **** ***. I initially requested an email of the coverages before giving my debit-card information to purchase the warranty coverage. ********** ***** *****, **********, Alabama, performed the repairs, is a witness to my objection, by telephone, to the agent for his lack of coverage given... instead of the total promised Platinum repair coverage. Car Shield engaged in False Advertising that "electrical system" repairs (e.g. alternator, electrical wiring assembly, etc.) were covered under the Platinum coverage plan. This is a scam on the public by Car Shield, and seniors like me on a monthly fixed income are being exploited. An attorney advised that I try to recover the full Platinum coverage promised through the Better Business Bureau, first. If not, I and two others also defrauded by Car Shield will file a lawsuit in class action to recover our loss, a public scam by false advertising.

Per their notes this claim was adjudicated to the terms and conditions of the contract in effect at the time of breakdown. Neither *** nor CarShield can force your repair facility to use a lower cost part option towards repairs. The headlight is not listed for coverage per the contract in effect at the time of breakdown. We have attached a copy of the contract  for your review.  A list of covered components can be found in Section B of your contract.

As a resolution, CarShield will refund your payments in full upon execution of a Settlement and Release Agreement. Please email ****************** to confirm the cancellation and refund. Once we receive the email, we will draft the Agreement and email it to you for your review and signature.  Please make sure to include your name and contract number  in the subject line for faster processing.

    Customer Answer

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

As stated in my complaint (ID ********) against CarShield for not covering the electrical system repairs made (August 12, 2022), under the Platinum Coverage plan,  I will not discuss this matter back-and-forth with CarShield -- by repeated telephone calsl or emails -- but will take legal action as advised.

I have proof that CarShield agents did not email the requested “Platinum Coverage” plan for me to read and provide my “signature”, but chose to read three (3) coverage plan choices over the telephone; upon my choice of the Platinum coverage plan, my debit card number and information was requested… and I complied.  It is apparent from the lack of coverage provided, I was victimized by CarShield, defrauded in a bait-and-switch scheme by CarShield false TV advertising and telephone agents.  (CarShield agents do NOT email coverage choices for customer selection, nor for customer’s “electronic signature” on the contract.)

If CarShield will refund the $1,582.63 out-of-pocket I was forced to pay, ********** ***** *****, for “electrical system” parts and labor, plus $60 incurred in ***** ***** **** ‘overdraft charges’ (total: $1,642.63), I will accept the total amount $1,642.63 as a Settlement Agreement.

    Sincerely,

    ******** ****

I purchased my service plan from car shield on 5/21/2021. I spoke with a person on line that stated they were the rep. for Car Shield CarWarranty services. I ask him in full detail was this a ligate company and they would fix your car if it broke and I only had to pay a $100.00 deductible. They stated "that correct" If anything breaks on your car you only have to pay a $100 to your mechanic and we cut the check to them for the rest. Now that my car has broken and took it to the mechanic to be fix it is a different sorry to get it repaired. They only sent me my contract about a month ago. 2. Now they are stating that my contract only cover the powertrain, which was not told to me at the time of purchase and whats advertised, even now, If I had received my contract on time within the first 3 to 7 business days to cancel, I probablly would have done so and not let them charge me a $129.51 each month coming out of my bank account, I'm on a fix income, retired and don't need anyone to lie or take advantage of me. Now, they are saying my policy is thru something call ******** *********** another party. This is just some bait and switch stuff that they should not be able to do. The mechanic states my car has several things wrong with it. I have a **** ** ******, which they claim, I was sold the best policy to cover my car. It only had 113,109 miles. It was running perfectly. 3. Their third party to ******** **** ****** or/Adjuster was very rude to the mechanic as he reported and when you call them its all about Im sorry or was told today by one of their people in their Escalation Team" I was making excuses for my situation" The problem is they are taking people money and don't want to fix or do what they advertise. (False Advertisment) Not sending Contract in time for me to deny or ask them to void it, but billing my checking account monthly before I get it and I had to call for the contract. Policy#********** Claim# ******* I Need Car FIXED ALL THE WAY.

As noted on the first three pages of your vehicle service contract, ******** **** ****** (***) is the administrator of your vehicle service contract and has FULL authority over repair procedures, approvals, denials and payments.  We have contacted them to obtain information on the repair claim you have referenced. *** has verified failures to the blower motor and the mounts. The shop stating there is an issue with the AC compressor but during the inspection the verified it has power and ground, but the drive belt is off the engine so unable to test the AC system to see if it is or is not working properly. The Range switch, belt tensioner/drive belt, and the convertible top hydraulic unit and window regulator are all not listed for coverage, *** would be unable to assist. When they can get the drive belt and tensioner repaired, *** could look into verifying any further problems with the AC compressor but as of right now we have nothing to prove the compressor has failed. This claim has been adjudicated correctly per the terms of the contract. Once the drive belt and tensioner replaced, *** could double check the function of the AC compressor but currently they have no verified failure to the compressor. Please have your contract repair facility contact *** when the repairs are complete at ************.

We also reviewed the recorded sales call and you were given a list of the covered components approximately 2 minutes and 45 seconds in to the call.  The grace period was also explained to you at 4 minutes and 40 second into the call and all our our contracts come with a 30 days review period, not 7 days, giving you ample time to review the contract and cancel with a full refund if you choose not to keep coverage.  All of this information is also stated in the contract which was emailed to you the day of purchase. The sales associate also help you download the app on your phone so you could access the contract that day. As far as the deductible it was explained how the claim gets paid at 7 minutes into the call where the sales associate told you they pay for any covered claims over the phone with a credit card and you are responsible for the deductible and any diagnostic fees if they claim isn't covered.

If you have any additional concerns regarding this repair claim, you may contact ******** **** ****** directly at ************. As your service contract administrator and the obligated party under the contract terms, they will be happy to assist you with any repair claim related concerns you may still have.

CarShield continues to send me miss leading mailings and phone calls. They create a false sense of urgency. After sending them written letter both via **** priority mail to their corporate address and electronic mail on June 21. Followed up twice via e-mail on July 18 and August 2 to take me off their mailing list they continued to send me mailings. Even after CarShield was told to cease and desist they sent and even more miss leading mailing. See attached. The mailing appears as if they are from the state of Illinois motor vehicles services. The post card even looks like the sate of Illinois vehicle registration card to try to deceive consumers. It creates even more of a false sense of urgency. I believe they were also calling my person cell phone. They intentionally and willingly violate Illinois Cam Spam Act of 2003, Federal Cam Spam Act of 2003, Illinois Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act,

The first mailer you attached to your complaint is not a mailer from CarShield.  You will need to contact that company to removed from their mailing list.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because when I called the phone number on the spam letter dated July 29, 2022 the representative and supervisor said they were from Carshield when I asked what company they are with. Therefore, both mailings were from CarShield.

I tried to call the phone number today, August 29, and got a message it has been "disconnected". This means CarShield has changed their number or has multiple phone lines on these post cards.

There tends to be ongoing deceptive practices from CarShield and I am wondering if it is an industry issue as well. CarShield continues to ignore the BBB warnings of miss representing themselves and creating a false sense of urgency to scare or trick consumers.

Attached is my Final Response to this matter.

I had an extended warranty with this company and had to take my car to a shop for a break issue. My shop refused to take the insurance , my shop said this company denies claims and no shops like to deal with them. I paid for my repairs out of pocket and called to cancel the policy. They kept me on the phone for over 40 minutes trying to save the agreement, but I kept insisting they just cancel it. This company has continued to bill me and will not refund me.

Although CarShield has no contractual obligation to do so, we will refund your last 6 payments upon execution of a Settlement and Release Agreement. Please email ****************** to confirm the cancellation and refund. Once we receive the email, we will draft the Agreement and email it to you for your review and signature.  Please make sure to include your name and contract number in the subject line for faster processing.
