I recently signed up on June 18, 2025 for a free trial with ************************** with an intention to cancel before the trial ended. I ended up cancelling the trial on the same date I created my account. I followed their online process and was certain I canceled on June 18th, well within the free trial period. They did not send me a confirmation that my account had been canceled despite the fact I carefully followed their directions for cancelling my account (I reviewed all of my email folders to confirm they did not send anything). Today, I realized I was charged $49.95 on June 26, 2025 for an additional months membership. I immediately contacted customer service to ask that they reverse the charge because I had cancelled my account during the free trial period and have no plans on using their service moving forward. I was shocked when they responded with a boilerplate email that said they could not issue a refund and that my cancellation had occurred after the trial period ended. I was even more shocked when I researched online that this company has a pattern of this exact situation occurring repeatedly with customers. This practice is completely unacceptable and misleading at best, but I am more so concerned that this company is committing an unfair business practice/fraud to obtain payments from customers who they know are using their service only during the free trial. I know the $49.95 is a small amount, but I am more concerned for that this company is doing this to many other consumers. I am contemplating reporting this to the **************** for an investigation pursuant to Chapter 93A, our consumer protection statute.Business Response

I have never heard of this sight, and have never needed legal documents. I was camping in ******* in the week leading up to my charge, where I had almost no internet access. I use this website for legal documents and accepted the free 7-day trial to see if those were ones I was looking for and needed, but the services they offered were not what I needed. I never expected they would be charging me for a month's service more than they announced on their website. This is what the website announces: " After the trial ends, it renews at $39.95/month. Pay-as-you-go service, cancel anytime, but this business charged me $49.95.I talked to someone in the chat, a representative who seems to understand that I need to cancel the free trial and not be charged on my card, but instead of that, he began bargaining with me about the price, ranging from $49.95 to as low as $7.95. He explained other ways I can use the website services, but I explained to him I am not interested. I called the day the trial expired. The representative sounds mad and said, Well, I am sorry, but nothing I can do. We charged you already, because you accepted the free trial. I told him he should not charge me for a service that the company did not provide, and also because it was illegal, they are overcharging the amount compared to what they announced on their website. At the end, this company charged me $49.95, and no service was provided. I made contact one day before the trial expired and explained that it was not the service I was looking for, the representative neither offered a future credit nor made an effort to solve the problem, just disconnected the chat. This individual closed my account on 04/08/25, the same day I called. I felt that this company promotes the Free trial to make people provide their credit card, and then it is common for anyone to forget about it, but what it is worse is that although you call and ask for not be charged due to not received the service they tried to keeping you and when you say NO, a no service was provided the company charged you anyway. Thank you for your response, Melisa, but as a you explained, I chat with a representative of your business withing one day after being charged (04/08/2025) the entirely monthly subscription. Please see the screenshot of my account dashboard. In that case you canceled my subscription without my authorization.
I stated to him do not wants to keep this service because it is not wanted and need to cancel, and after been bargaining the price from your representative from $49.95 to low $7.00. Then I asked him to leave the charge at least to $7.00, then he stated: NO, I do not issue any refund and the account is canceled, he disconnected the Chat.
As you can see no service was received the account was canceled by your representative and you are keeping a money for a serviced not provide.
You can do better, you know that the way the business is behaving is not right, other companies if you call and tell them not interested on the service they prompt refund you the money with no questions ask, because they care about what people can say about them, this is not the case, It is really sad that some business need to use these tactics to make money.

I signed up for a free trial with ************************** with the clear intention to cancel before the trial ended. I followed the cancellation process on their website and am 100% confident I canceled before the trial expired. However, I was still charged for a full membership, with no warning, no receipt, and no confirmation that the account had been canceled or renewed.The only email I have ever received from ************************** was a thank you for signing up confirmation at the start of the trial. I have searched extensively through my inbox, spam, promotions, archived, and deleted folders for any other communication from the company including renewal notices, cancellation confirmations, or payment receipts and found absolutely nothing.When I contacted customer service to resolve this, I was told they could not issue a refund and that the cancellation happened after the trial period ended. However, they provided no proof of when they believe the cancellation occurred, and they dismissed my explanation entirely. I find this unacceptable and misleading. A lack of communication on their part should not result in a customer being financially ************ be charged without any confirmation or warning feels deceptive. Used the trial program, attempted a cancelation a few days later apparently it never stuck because I was charged about $50. I canceled again and it didn't take they charged me again and refused to issue a refund. I told them that I'm a senior citizen and on a limited budget but they didn't care and again refused to issue any refund. I signed up for a 7 day trial for legal templates in December 2024.
