    Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your concerns.  Genuine Data Services is not a consumer reporting agency and did not provide the report you attached to this complaint. It appears that the report came from Real Page, through one if its its subsidiaries, On-Site Leasing or The LeasingDesk.  It likely states on one of the pages you did not attach exactly who prepared the report and provides a phone number, address, and website to visit to file a dispute.  Please contact that company to dispute your report if you believe that it is inaccurate.  I acknowledge that the report notes that Genuine Data Services is the vendor who provided the information about the Dorchester County record.  In this context, that means that Genuine Data Services obtained a  bulk file from *****************, ** containing an entry for every record maintained in the county's public records index. We provided that bulk file to Real Page without any alteration - it just contains the information Genuine Data Services got from the county court.   It appears in this instance that your record did not contain a disposition.  It does not say that it is a conviction - just that it was filed in 2018 with no further updates. Genuine Data Services cannot change or update your report.  Only Real Page can do that.  I will have one of our associates call you to see if we can help you identify the provider of the report, get you contact information for the provider, or be of further service.

    I filled out a rental application for my daughters University housing. The background information was gathered and shared by Genuine Data services LLC. On the report it shows they are the record vendor. They associated criminal data with name. My credit and background are unblemished. They will try to say they are not the credit agency but merely sharing data. This does not appear to be the case. Equifax does not do background checks for criminal records. The information seems to be utilized directly by the landlord via a software program. Obviously there are massive problems and corruption within the data collection with lack of verification. These housing decisions by landlord / companies are based on false information. Companies are doing background and credit searches to avoid violations in Fair Housing laws but the information is not accurate. To correct the obvious false information it is extremely difficult and time consuming for the consumer. That being said, if the data company shared in that time consumption their information would reflect more accuracy. This process should have a name verification process and Identity verification prior to their pull. They are just leaving the consumer to clean up their false, fraudulent and very harmful data sharing.

    Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your concerns and I am sorry for the difficulty you are having with university housing.  As you seem to already know, Genuine Data Services is not a consumer reporting agency. It does not prepare consumer reports, provide consumer reports to landlords, and does not maintain files on individuals. We have no contractual or other relationship with any landlord, much less any university housing. I have no way of knowing where you applied for your daughter's university housing or what was reported about you to them. Genuine Data Services obtains and furnishes raw public records data in bulk to consumer reporting agencies who prepare consumer reports.  For example, we might obtain the entire content of the online criminal records index for *************, *****, then provide that entire county file to a consumer reporting agency who then uses it for its own purposes.  To be clear, we did not prepare a report about you and did not decide what to include in a report about you. Somewhere on the consumer report you are referring to will be the name of a consumer reporting agency and contact information for that agency - it will say something like "This report was prepared using software provided by *********** which you can reach at **********************************************."  To have this report corrected, you must contact them. (If you do not have a complete copy of the report, get it from university housing.)  They are the only ones who can correct your report.  On the basis of what you state, I think some company (who is not us) reported data about you, and they made a decision to include information about you that does not match your DOB or your full name. Given that something you saw shows our name as the "vendor," it is likely that we provided the raw data from a court to that company, but we did not make any decisions about whether to put it on your report or whether it belonged to you.   To reiterate, we do not have access to that report. Please contact the consumer reporting agency who prepared your report to dispute.     The reporting organization has provided information that a partial portion of my name and the month and day of my DOB are related to a Criminal Offender.I have contacted the Court of Licking **** and have been advised that because the Offender is NOT me that I'm not able to obtain any information other than the full DOB which is off by one (1) year and she confirmed that my SSN is no where close to that of the Offender.My full name is ********* ************************* III with DOB of 02/08/1964 Offender name is ********************************* with DOB of 02/08/1965

If you have a concern about information on a consumer report about you, please contact the consumer reporting agency who provided the report. They are the only ones who can correct your report.  On the basis of what you state, I think some company (who is not us) reported data about you, and they made a decision to include information about you that does not match you DOB or your full name. It is possible that we provided the raw data from a court to that company, but we did not make any decisions about whether to put it on your report or whether it belonged to you.  I can see that you attached something to your complaint that *** be the report at issue.  But, it is password protected and I cannot open it. If it is your report, it likely has the contact information of the agency who prepared it. To reiterate, please contact the that company to dispute your report.     I am rejecting this response because: the reporting company clearly states that they provided the raw data information, which matched neither my full name, DOB or SSN.  The company failed to perform any due diligence to support reporting this misleading information and acted in a reckless manner in reporting this false and misleading information which resulted in a decision made on a housing opportunity which negatively impacted my life and placed me in an embarrassing position of trying to explain that I was not the sexual predator listed in the report that they recklessly provided.

    We are not denying that we provided raw data IN BULK to the company that prepared your background check.  As in, we provided to them a file with the entire contents of the **** court's records about every criminal record in their files. Our provision of that bulk file was not in response to a request about you. We did not provide a record to them that we claimed was about you. Genuine Data Services did not make the decision to include it on a report about you when it did not match your identifiers.  They looked at the raw data we provided and made the decision that it should be included on your report. We had never heard of you before receiving this complaint.  In short, you must take this up with the other company because we cannot remove it from your report because we have no access to it.

    I am rejecting this response because:

    The reporting agency provided data based upon a specific request using personalized data sufficient to identify me individually.

    The report provider ignored the specific, individually identifying information and provided data which was used in determining eligibility for housing.

    Providing such bulk information in a fire and forget  manner does not absolve the provider for any and all responsibility in providing data which can be and was inaccurate and defamatory in nature, resulting in an unfair judgement regarding housing.

    On 8/4/23 I applied to rent a house in ******, **. I was denied by the rental agency because of a false report that was generated by Genuine Data Services, LLC. They claim that I have a felony fraud conviction when I have all the evidence in the world that I do not. I attempted to file a complaint with them and to request a review of this, and they attempted to **** this off on another company that tried to **** it off on another company, so on and so forth. They seem to have their system set up perfectly to stay away from accountability. They have also faced lawsuits for this exact problem before, and they seem intent on not doing anything to remedy the tremendous harm that they cause.

    Good afternoon. In our phone conversation earlier this week, we listened to your concerns and explained that we have not provided any reports about you to any landlord. Although we have not provided any information about you to any prospective landlords, we do maintain criminal records files.  While on the phone with our associate, you had the opportunity to identify any records you were concerned about and have us update our files to reflect your concerns.  We made the updates discussed.  Unfortunately, we cannot help you with your immediate concern - the report provided to your prospective landlord - because we did not create it and know nothing about it. If someone told you that we provided it, they were mistaken. If you have a copy of the report, please contact the consumer reporting agency who provided it.  If you do not have a copy of it, you can obtain it from the landlord who ordered it.  That provider is the only entity that can help you with this issue.  Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your concerns.

    I do not know how this company is allowed to stay operating. They falsely report criminal records for tenant screening. There are 2 FELONY charges that they say I have, but at no time have I been charged with a crime. This company has made me lose money, time, energy, and has the sole responsibility of me not getting an apartment. They respond to every one of these complaints saying they are not responsible for the results, but they are the ones selling false information and affecting peoples lives. The have a lawsuit against them for the same reason. Horrible and unethical company.

    As with many of the other complains you will see here. I also submitted an application for a 2 bedroom apartment and was SHOCKED to discover that I had a random charge under my criminal history dated in 2018, at a time when I would have been a minor (under 18). I have never had any violation, criminal history, or charges from law enforcement in anyway at all. Yet, here on the criminal history report supplied by Genuine Data Services, a random guilty charge shows up titled "No written charge on citation." ************ needs to immediately correct this issue and be shut down for the severe negligence they continue to display. They are affecting hundreds of people with bogus reports and fake criminal history reports and impacting ************* of peoples lives.

    The apartment I was applying for requires a background check. My came back with a cocaine arrest in *******. I've never been arrested at all. The website is shady and you can only email them. No phone number. I want this removed off my background check.

    On July2, 2022 I submitted an application to *********** Apartments located in ******** *****, FL. The application fee cost $350. Within 30 minutes I received an email stating that I was disqualified because of my criminal record. I have NEVER been arrested. I requested that "Leasing Desk" provide me with a copy of my credit and background report that they used to make their decision. I received a copy of their reports on Thursday 7/7/22. After reviewing the reports in detail they listed that I have a drug possession charge in ********. Obviously, there is another ********* ****** because that is not me. The birthdates don't match OR the physical description. Through further investigation I have learned there is currently a class action suit against Genuine Data Services for failure to ensure consumer info is correct before selling the data. I have since lost out on the apartment I attempted to lease for my new job starting 7/25/22.

    I was applying for an apartment, in **** when I was out there on 6/20/22. So I guess the apartment complex uses this fraudulent company to do background checks. It came back that I had a shoplifting charge on my record, so I was baffled to figure out why I have a shoplifting charge on my record. So when I got back to ***** ******** I called Sled to do a background check to figure out why is showing up on my record. I was informed by State of ***** ******** sled Agency that I do not have a shoplifting charge on my criminal background. So I was telling them that this company ran it and it showed up in which I have a copy of from the agency. So I went by ******** County ***** ******** Where is the incident Happened or somebody use my name fraudulently, and ask them and show them the information that I have and they ran a Background on me they said they don’t have anything search on my criminal history. The incident happened back in 2009. So I do not know where this company is getting this information from. I am going by the sheriffs office tomorrow to pick up the information to show that I do not have anything on my background. So this company better get better information before they put peoples information out that they are criminals. As soon as I get the paperwork I will upload it, and you better call the local sheriff department where this incident happened and get this corrected if I apply for another apartment or home and he shows up then I will have to take other measures for legal actions.
