1 starIt’s unfortunate I have to deal with a 90 late payment from Nelnet when I clearly called in to make the payment over the phone 3 months prior. My account was supposed to be in forbearance for 3 months thereafter. I realized that was a lie once I got an alert from my credit service stating I was 90 days past due with Nelnet. They took my payment and assigned it to a specific loan group without my knowingness and caused me to go 90 days late on 1 account. I have NEVER made a payment to a specific loan group for the 3 years I’ve been paying them!! My set payment has ALWAYS been for the totality of the loans housed under the same account #. I called in 8 days after I made the payment to make sure my account was current and that I was in fact in forbearance. They said YES. Your payment isn’t due until 3/22/2023. THEY LIED!!! They lied on the initial call for 3 months forbearance. And they lied on the follow up call on 1/5/2023 to verify forbearance for months Dec, Jan, Feb. Its unfortunate external action will be taken. This company is shady.Review fromKimberly K

1 starMy student loans were originally serviced by *********** without any issues. Years ago, *********** transferred my loans to Nelnet. Shortly thereafter, my husband lost his job and I became a new real estate agent. Due to what would be a short-term financial need, I contacted Nelnet to find out about getting lower payments, but still needed an option that would keep me eligible for the 20-year debt forgiveness... I had already been on that tract for 12 years and had only 8 years left. The idiot I spoke with assured me, MULTIPLE TIMES, that I could make something like $95 or $98 payments for the next 12 months and that option was absolutely part of the debt forgiveness tract. No forms to read and sign, no documents to review, all done right over the phone. A year later, when I called to go back to the higher monthly payments I was making previously, I again explained that I needed an option that was part of the 20-year debt forgiveness tract. It was then that I was told that I wasn't part of that program, that the change "I" made the previous year removed me from the 20-year debt forgiveness program and I was no longer eligible. I was livid, spoke to a couple of different supervisors, was told they would look into it and get back to me. A few days later, they did get back to me with, essentially, an apology... she said they found that the rep I spoke to the year before made a mistake in what she recommended for lower the payments, which eliminated my eligibility for the 20-year debt forgiveness program, and unfortunately, there was nothing they could do to fix it because of "federal guidelines." So they totally screwed up, costing me tens of thousands more in repayment, and oops, oh well.... So I transferred my loans back to ***********, probably too quickly for an attorney to get any records from Nelnet, finally let it go for my own mental health, only to find out today that my loans are being transferred, AGAIN, from *********** to Nelnet. This should be illegal!Review fromAna L

1 starDisappointed with Nelnet *************** specifically team lead *********. *************************************************************** *************************************** No empathy and very dismissive. Spoke to 1 other staff prior to my conversation with ****, which went well with that particular staff who was very professional. I keep requesting for someone to call me regarding that interaction, and still nothing has been done despite the first staff stating this situation happened on their end and had nothing to do with me.Review fromChris V

1 starMy student loan was forgiven on November 08. 2007, but every tax season for the past 2 years, I have been getting letters from this company, saying that they want to help me get my loan " discharged" and I have called and even emailed them a copy of my discharge letter from FSA (Federal Student AID).. How do I get this company to STOP!!!Review fromMichele M

1 starI applied for a loan in 2016 to complete my Masters, unfortunately I began to show signs of fatigue and unable to retain information so discontinued my degree. Since then I have not been able to hold a job. I was granted disability and applied for loan forgiveness. I received a letter from Nelnet dated 12/5/2022 advising because I was unable to provide *** review period for the next 5-7 years I do not disqualify for loan forgiveness. I am 60 and in 5-7 years I will be 68 years. My student loan continues to incur interest. This loan at the time was about $6,200 which I have not paid for over 3 years because I applied for hardship. I did request the paperwork from *** but they never sent it to me. Maybe someone can tell me the logic why the ************************** will be terrorizing a 60 disabled person and why they are unable to do the maths given I will be in my late 60th in 5-7 years therefore that maybe the reason *** did not send me the document. I now question decision making of the **************************, where is the logic? My loan is now about $6900 because of the accrued interest. Given I currently have an income below the low income bracket, I wish the ************************** the best in collecting this debt for common sense and reasoning was not applied in my loan forgiveness application.Review fromOdester W

1 starThe Federal Government needs to do something about the deceptive practices and lack of service with Nelnet. What started out as what I thought would be a simple request for my Master Promissory Note from Nelnet, it became alarming. Nelnet sent me an incorrect document (not Master Promissory Note). After reviewing the document I noticed incorrect information and someone signed my name to the document dated December 1999. Obviously, I was furious and looked for answers. Nelnet gave me the runaround for weeks until they finally admitted they didn't have the Master Promissory note since ***** (***) was no longer in business. Of course, I asked what were they going to do about this. After numerous conversations with reps and managers, they provided me a fraud package in which I completed. They also asked for me to file a police report for this year 1999 incident, so I did. In June 2022 they provided a letter that they found no identity theft since I made payments on my loans.
I reminded Nelnet that I know I had a student loan, however I didn't sign this document and wanted to appeal. Fast forward a few months and no one has provided a way to appeal as their letter stated. I've been busy and tired of dealing with them, but will not let them off the hook that easy. This isn't right that Nelnet controls everything about the loan and try to make it difficult. My name was forged and I only found out by accident from the incorrect document Nelnet sent me. I'm sure many borrowers may have their names forged, but have no clue since most people probably do not ask for the Master Promissory note. Hopefully this helps someone else out there. I will seek legal action if I can't get this resolved.Review fromJames T

1 starNelnet is the worst student loan company there is! Why do they have the right to my personal bank account? Yes, you read that right! They expect me to give them my rounting and account numbers to my bank account! I have tried to make payments to them with my debit card and they refuse to take it! Funny I can use my debit worldwide with no problems. But its not good enough for Nelnet! And they will take your small loans and break them up into seveal more loans so they can stick it to you with the interest. Not sure why our Government allows them to use these *************** tactics!Review fromKara W

1 starI have a student loan services bu Nelnet. It was not originally serviced by them. It was bought out buy them. I am eligible for the IDR. 14months ago while on vacation with my family Nelnet illegally took nearly $900 from my bank account. Thankfully my bank was able to recover the money, but it took a week. They stated that I had not filed my paper work, which I had. This was also in the middle of COVID where all loans were supposed to be on hold! Then i sent this paper work in again and again, the received but there was always an "issue" but never told me! They lost my paper work, said they could not read it, you name it. They sent me to collections, tanked my credit, harassed me, and tried to make me pay 100% of the loan! I have sent the paper work by email, fax, and even certified mail! Today I got another email that said "I have not applied for the IDR" What! I called and they told me that I "oh I am actually ok for the next 12month. I have been told that before and then received letters that I was going to be in deferral and owe the enter loan! I seem to have no recourse. I have perfect credit before nelnet. Now it's awful. Never use Nelnet. Never trust them.Review fromTahaji S

1 starHOW IS THIS LISTED AS AN A+ BUSINESS??????? Nelnet is the ABSOLUTE worst student loan provider that I have EVER worked with!!!!! First, I graduated from school August of 2022. I rececived an option from the ***********************
to consolidate my student loans because I am in the process of purchasinga home. I completed the information and successfully consolidated my student loans ONLY to find that Nelnet had 5 of my student loans still in an "in school" status!! I called for months and was repeatedly told that I had to wait 6 months for the status to change because they couldn't change it. HOW?????? THEY ARE THE LENDER!!!!!! I had to file a complaint with *********** before they finally changed the status. THEN I simply requested an estimated letter of repayment for once my loan is out of its grace period and under my preferred income driven repayment plan. I was initially told that it would take 3 to 7 business days to even draft the letter, then I would receive it via email. When I didn't receive the letter, I called back and was told that the letter would take 14 business days. I still did not receive the letter and called back AGAIN!!!! NOW I am being told that the letter is going to take 30 days!!!! 30 DAYS FOR AN ESTIMATED REPAYMENT LETTER TO BE DELIVERED VIA EMAIL?????????? That is ABSOLUTELY ABSURD!!!!!! I cannot wait for my remaining loans to be removed from its grace period status with Nelnet so in can consolidate them with my other lender IMMEDIATELY!!!!!! They are a terrible company and should be investigated for their practices. No one should have to experience this level of frustration over simple requests.Review fromKelly J

1 starI've been in good standing for years now. No payment owed! Yet they take 1 loan and divide it into 7 and report negatively on my credit as 7 accounts every month. Ive called them a massive ammount of times and they deny doing the negative reports. Ive sent in emails to the department advised, never get a response. It has been an ongoing battle for years over education that did absolutely no good in the long run. I am at the point, after 3 years of going through this and them trashing my credit when my payment balance is $0, I've finally hired a lawyer. It is a such a shame I have to go this route but I need my credit to go up.
