My loan was transferred to Nelnet and they refuse to let me autopay until the forbearance period ends but I am allowed to make individual one-time payments. Seems like a shady practice just to maximize future interest payments from borrowers that have actually tried to pay during the forbearance period. it's insane to pretend that there could be any legitimate reason to restrict the use of an automated service just because the loans are in forbearance.

Did not request them to transfer my services to you them. The folding offer professional placement in order to have own loan scheme repaid!

I have Parent Plus loan that was being serviced by Great Lakes. Overall, I was very happy with that loan servicer. I was able to start making payments immediately upon receiving the loan for my son, and have continued to do so through automatic debit every month since then, including through the pandemic forbearance. However, since my loan was transferred to Nelnet, I have not been able to set up "automatic" payments on a monthly basis. I was told that I would have to wait until my loan exits forbearance at the end of the year. The most that their software program would permit is to make one "special" payment at a time during a single month period, manually inserting the payment date and amount each month. I am interested in continuing to make payments now, because they directly reduce the principal and do not include interest.
The other problem is that I would only be able to make payments for the minimum amount, once forbearance is over. I would like to make double that amount, so as to finish paying off this loan (which I have had for ten years). I was told that I could not do that -- I can only make the "minimum" payment, which, of course, stretches out the length of the loan and increases the interest that I have to pay. To make an additional payment, beyond the minimum, I would have to manually make that payment each month, although the customer service representative that I spoke to did not think that I could do that, nor could I make a large, lump sum payment, once the balance was low enough, to pay off the loan in full. Only the minimum payments were allowed. Once my loan leaves forbearance, I will take up this issue of the minimum payment again with customer service.
Overall, I would give this loan provider a grade of F.

My loans were just transferred from ***** *****. With ***** ***** I have been able to make monthly auto payments to a specific loan through the COVID pause. These monthly payments with GL have been allocated to the loan that I wanted (the one with highest interest). Now that I have been moved to Nelnet I cannot make auto monthly payments to a specific loan. The payment would be spread across all of my loans. They told me the only way to direct auto payments to a specific loan would be to exit the current forbearance. Doing that would require all of the loans to come out of forbearance and payments to be required on all of them, defeating the purpose of that I am trying to do. In order to make payments to a specific loan I have to manually set them up each month. When I complained to the "Advisor" on the phone her response was "we have an app to help you make payments easier".

My ***** ***** loan was transferred to Nelnet. My personal information was transferred incorrectly from my ***** ***** account and the original welcome email from Nelnet notated that my loan status was in bankruptcy- it was not. They did send out a correction email but that’s still a bad mistake. My account is not fully transferred over despite the email saying it was. My account status with Nelnet shows it as being fully paid off - it is not. The customer service rep on the phone could see a balance that was $*k greater than what ***** ***** showed as of Dec 2022. I am not able to see this amount currently in Nelnet. Overall this transfer process is glitch filled and their service reps are of no real help. Nelnet has been a serious downgrade from ***** *****. I’m furious that they were given the contract for handling my loans and that there’s nothing that I can currently do about it.

On 3/31/23, I received an email that my loans were being transferred to Nelnet. The email included that I would receive a welcome email from Nelnet in two weeks, “Your loan account will transfer to Nelnet on or about April 18, 2023.”
Through Great Lakes I had auto payments on the 20th of each month. On 4/20/23 my auto payment was processed to Great Lakes.
On 4/24/23, I tweeted my concerns of my payment taken and still no communication from Nelnet. Great Lakes commented, “Hello Meredith. I am sorry that happened. I am happy to help. Could you please email your Great Lakes ID to xxxx.
I emailed and received the following reply on May 1st, “The loan on our end does show transferred to Nelnet as of 04/18/2023. Once Nelnet has the loan on their system they will send you a welcome letter. Auto pay was deactivated on 04/19/2023. I am wondering if you have bill pay set up with your bank, if that is the case make sure to update the bank with the new payment address for Nelnet once you have the information. I do show two payments from 04/20/23 for $** each being forwarded to Nelnet. Let us know if you have any other questions.”
My autopay was through Great Lakes, NOT my bank.
35 DAYS AFTER MY INITIAL NOTIFICATION: On Thursday, 5/4/23 I FINALLY received an email from Nelnet that my loans transferred and I could create an account.
Upon creating my account, I saw that my payment on 4/20/23 is NOT included in my total balance. As quoted above, Nelnet confirmed my payment was being forwarded to Nelnet. Additionally, I added my bank information and scheduled a payment for 5/22/23 to avoid further “conflict.” I contacted Nelnet through their accounts page inquiring why my payment on 4/20/23 is not in my account.
As of today, 5/6/23 my payment made on 4/20/23 is STILL NOT APPLIED TO MY BALANCE. It has been 6+ weeks since I made the payment. How is this now fraud?!
I am deeply concerned about fraud, my future with Nelnet, and what steps I will need to take.

I was making monthly payments since my loan started. I was never notified of public service loan forgiveness. When asked, they said I missed the date. I cannot tell you how many times I may have contacted them, but never asked if I were working in a public service organization that qualifies, instead I was just told "no". I have worked in public service over 10 years with that many qualifying loan payments and nothing. I was just told no. I even tried to change my last name and was told to fill out x, y, z and could not find the information they told me about, I called back they said the forms were on their website which is not true. They wouldn't even mail me the form.

I actually don't know yet, just looking at the reviews and they are all one star bad reviews from people who do have business with Nelnet.
Maybe that's because people who don't have issues don't take the time to review? I don't know. I hope my experience with Nelnet is not as bad as these.
My loans are currently serviced by Great Lakes, but I got an email telling me that I'm being transferred to Nelnet. Hope I can come back and give a better review.

This company cannot get their act together. I’ve called several times over the year and consistently get different information every time I call.
Ask for a supervisor and they tell you someone will call back in 1-2 days, call them back in two weeks after no one returns your call and someone different tells you there’s no timelines for the “resolution” team to call back because they’re so busy.
How can there be no timelines to get a call back? Different answers every time depending on who you speak to. This company is dealing with peoples loans and they couldn’t sound and feel less professional. Very much seems something fraudulent is occurring here.
