      I rented a textbook on Jan 10 for around $43 and then less than 12 hours later, I received an email saying the order was canceled by BooksRun. I called customer service and they said that multiple customers bought the book simultaneously. Unfortunately, my order was canceled because of a technical error but I could reorder it when it fixed itself. Well, I just went on the website to reorder and the original price was doubled. The tactic seems very scammy or at least unethical, especially after I paid for expedited shipping because I needed the book for class. Definitely going to rent my textbook from elsewhere because I already don't trust this company.

Due to overwhelming demand for these prices, sometimes we may sell out of an item before we can remove that item from our site. We work hard to minimize cancellations that occur in such cases. However, in order to still provide our customers with a variety of textbooks, we do have an affiliated partner that can help us ship books for rent. Nonetheless, the prices are established by our partner and, unfortunately, cannot be influenced by us. We always strive to provide the lowest prices for our books, however. the price for the item in question could have indeed been higher at the moment, as it was supposed to be shipped from our affiliated shipping partner.We would like to thank you once again for reporting this issue to us.       BooksRun responded and I still stand by my original comment. Very sketchy service and price gouging tactic seems very plausible. If you cant honor the prices that you advertise then you need to make it clear that the raised price is because the book is coming from a third party and not your own warehouses. Or at least when you cancel, let the customer know the reason without them having to reach out and call themselves. Bad business model, definitely needs improvement.

      I have to agree with other reviewers. I think the reason rental fees on this site are so cheap is because they basically just keep charging you. I rented a book for a class. The rental window didn't fully cover the semester which is nuts to begin with, but even with the additional $15 extension it was still cheaper than my school's bookstore rental. I mailed the book back at a location provided by their website. I both printed the return label and shipped the book at the location. I assumed everything was fine until a few weeks later I was charged in full for the book. When I looked into it, I saw that tracking had not been updated and it had likely been lost in the mail. When I reached out to customer service, I provided them with the tracking slip and a picture of the receipt from when I dropped it off. I was told I would be given a refund. Then, nothing. I reached out again and I was told I couldn't get a refund until the book was received. I explained yet again that it had been lost in the mail. They gave me a partial refund and said they could refund the rest when the book was received. I have since reached out again and was told that I should contact the location where I had shipped it out. That "Mutual beneficial rapport is the key to a proper resolution in such a case." Of course person working at the shipping location explained to me that it was lost. Like I already knew. Long story short, you're gonna be paying the same price as ****** or the bookstore. Might as well just bypass the headache and just pay more to deal with a reliable company,

In case the book is not returned before the new deadline, the item's purchase price will be charged and the item will no longer be eligible for return or any kind of refund at all.Unfortunately, our system does not know if the rental order is shipped back or not if our shipping label does not indicate acceptance, and as per our records, the item was never received at our processing facility as you would have received the confirmation letter to your email address. Please be also aware that a **** return shipping label has been generated for your rental return, hence it is strongly advised to ship the book back to us through ****. If you drop off a package at a *** facility, there is a high chance that it will not be scanned and get lost. Therefore, you were advised to contact the mail carrier in order to locate the lost package as you are its shipper. At this moment, we are not affiliated with ***, therefore, we are not eligible to contact them directly regarding this matter. However, in order to have this matter resolved in the best possible way, as a one-time courtesy, which has never been done before, we have issued a 50% refund of the purchase price for your rental order, whereas the rest of the charged amount can only be issued once the book is returned to us.       I used your website to find a location to drop off the book. I went back to the location where I dropped the book and they told me they no longer have it. If you don't work with *** then why did your website tell me to go to that location and why did the label print from the ** code provided? More importantly, why did *** accept the package?

      This place is a scam!! They quoted me $48.63 for my book and now they have my book and are telling me it is worth nothing and want me to pay $8.95 to ship it back to myself!! The book was in excellent condition. So tired of people taking advantage of others and getting away with it. PLEASE DO NOT do any business with this company!!

      This company is a scam. They automatically reduce the amount from the original quote. When I sent a request to know why the amount was less then quoted, I received a response 9 days later with this response: Some other items in your order #*******, unfortunately, had their quotes adjusted automatically within the bound of $0.10 due to such main reason: we received the textbooks with the signs of wear that did not correspond to the "Used-Like New" condition initially quoted by you. Please note that items in "Like New" condition should have slight cosmetic defects to the original packaging, cover or spine, with all original packaging materials included.All of the books I sent were in new condition as they had not been used.One had only a slight defect.I do not recommend Booksrun and will certainly not use them in the future.

      Unfortunately, they failed to deliver my textbook. I placed an order on August 30th and it's already September 18 still no textbook. I understand that delivery may be delayed due to me being in ****** but at least they have to do due diligence and communicate with their clients. I've emailed them, and the email stated someone will respond within 48 hours, but no one responded. Be careful ordering or sending books to this company.

      Just like all the other complaints. It's a scam. They gave me a quote. My books were in good condition when I sent them. They received them august 16. On August 18 they messaged me that the books were in poor condition showing pictures of water damage, and they would pay me a much lower price.There was not water damage when I sent them. These books never left my house. In fact I barely used them, I dropped one of the classes and the other class I bought the electronic book so didn't touch the physical one.I didn't take pictures before the books left my house because I didn't expect a scam. In hindsight I should have because "they have pictures of the damage" so they can verify the books are damaged. But water damage is a very easy thing they could have done on their own then claimed the books arrived like that. But of course since I gave no proof of condition before I mailed them I have no recourse.To make it worse, I have 2 options:1) accept the lower price 2) PAY them to send my books back to me, now with water damage that I did not do.If you click on their option to send a support request, they say they'll get back to you in 3-4 days. But the "courtesy hold" on the books is only 2 days so I am forced to accept their price changes.I wish I hadn't used them and I feel dumb for not taking pictures before sending my books. SCAM.

      Something is majorly amiss here. After years of selling with no problems, every single buyback is being lowered. They are performing a BAIT & SWITCH, and then further profiting from charging an exorbitant amount if you want your book back - $8.95 for a book under one pound, that's roughly a $5 profit. If this isn't illegal, it is highly unethical. They promise to pay you, a longstanding customer with stellar buybacks for years, a certain amount for your property; once they receive your property, they claim, by some mystery algorithm, that it is not what they expected, and then they get to profit from charging you double the shipping price. Seller Beware, this buyer is essentially stealing your property.

      HORRIBLE company. I very good condition book in and they came back saying they didn't agree with the very good condition and decreased the amount they were going to send to me. I went to their website to decline the new pricing (knew I was just being ripped off); and they had automatically accepted the new payment. My order was shown as "on hold" I immediately went to their chat - which was useless, I sent an email and I called and spoke with a ********* Rep said she saw the issue and would request the book be returned to me. She said I would receive a confirmation email. I never received the confirmation. I sent another email and called again. The second rep said he would have to send it to another department and I would receive an email that day. No email. Much later I'm told they already sold my book and my check (for less than I had agreed on) was already processed. Not acceptable. Scammers. Do not sell books to this company. I believe they are crooks.

      Id give it less than one star except that it wouldnt let me do a review then..,, this website is a COMPLETE SCAM!! DO NOT USE IT! Its taking advantage of college students, many whom desperately need their book buyback money to get through a bit longer!!! They quoted me a price, then claimed **** damaged my package AND THAT THE BOOKS WUOYED WERENT IN THE *** WHICH CONTAINED MY SHIPPING LABEL ON IT!!! I want my money or my books back! I paid $499 plus tax AND NEVER WOUND UP USING THE BOOKS BECAUSE I MOVED SUDDENLY, and they didnt even offer me much. $103.91, to be exact!!! I want my books or my money! Help me please!

The notifications regarding the condition of the books received and the opened disputes were sent to your email address. Since you accepted the adjustments prior to contacting us, the order was processed on 07/28/2022.We have no doubts that there was no intention to deceive us from your side, therefore, once you contacted us, our representative requested a more detailed explanation from our processing team. Unfortunately, it appeared that the box with the label attributed to your order, contained the items that were not initially quoted.       Hi I sent 18 books thru booksrun and it was 2 months I haven't heard anything from them. So I messaged them asking why my books was in transit still? They responded with 2 of my books being counterfeit they terminated my account and the $600 in profit I only got $4.71 telling me they won't be returning the rest of my books. I have books in transit still haven't received an info that my other books was counterfeit but obviously they paid me on the $4.71 book my other books was $119 one was $130 and so on. What a waiste of my time and money. Im a single parent me and my daughter was excited about that money for the water park in ******. Why was my account disabled???

      Why was the $4.71 the only book I was paid for? I sent books to your company all 17 they are claiming to be counterfeit? My books was is great condition not like there description on how to spot counterfeit books. I was quoted $600 and they are keeping all my books which is over $1,000 in profit for them. Why was I only paid for my cheapest book my other books sell for $280 on Amazon x 2 I sent them and none of the books I sent was under $100 after they resell them.       Greetings!By checking our database, we can see that out of the total number of 18 buyback orders submitted with us, there were only 7 orders sent to us and actually received by us, 1 more order that was sent to us was lost in transit by the mail carrier, and the 10 remaining orders were cancelled automatically by the system due to not being shipped by you within 5 days after the order placement. Moreover, we could not help but notice that multiple small orders containing only one or two items with the books that have the same ISBNs were created by you, which is not allowed as per our policy, due to us having level pricing which means that with every three more copies that you sell, the buyback price is reduced. Therefore, all copies of the same item should have been quoted in the same buyback order.Nevertheless, as per our records, within the 7 orders actually received at our warehouse, there was a total number of 9 books with the total offered quote for them being $396.03, and 7 of the books were deemed counterfeit. Thus, the item Botany: An Introduction to Plant Biology (ISBN: *************) within your buyback order #******* was paid for via ****** in the adjusted amount of $4.91 due to the fact that the condition the item was received in did not correspond to the condition initially quoted by you.       Booksrun sells one of my books for rent only at $340 and I sold them 2 of the same books **** by ********************* publisher. They will not provide tracking information that they sent my books to the publisher or author because they did not. I've been waiting over a month for the author to notify of my books being real or counterfeit and booksrun hasn't notified nor anyone else they are liars stealing books and I'm reporting them to departments of justice, Secretary of state, consumer compliant ***, federal trade commission, sba and who anyone else i can file complaint with of the dishonesty that this company does. I looked my books up on ****** the sellers are the same for all my books I mean a person selling the same books on all my books and no other books it doesn't make sense but I know what these people are doing. Stealing that's why they say over and again about counterfeit books it puts a seller in a oh well position and upfront boomsrunis already telling us that this is how they work. Honestly they are really mad at the way I sent my books but no the actual books that I sent to them I mailed my books then I read the description of how we are supposed to mail them and yes I was far from that but my books was brand new they are lying.
