I have had a mortgage with M&T Bank and my first problem with them was that they lied and told me that I was still under forbearance and to pay the following month, although I insisted. They ended up reporting me to my Credit Score and knocked me down substantially. Now, I have a settlement check from *** and they won’t allow me access to fix anything and are holding my money. My settlement was in January; it’s July! They sent another inspector, this is the second one. When the check is 30k to fix my front door and my floors. Hurricane Season has already started. I spent more money out of pocket doing mold restoration and having my solar panels taken off and put back on, and put on a roof, soffit & fascia. M&T is absolutely horrendous. I have been so upset and I’m terminally ill with a Caretaker. I got sick from exposures in the military. Please if you have a choice, don’t go with a bank that just got sued millions of dollars for trying to swindle their customers. Look it up yourself.

If I could leave a negative number I would! In February 2025 my home loan was transferred to M&T, and it has been a consistent downhill spiral.
All payments I've made have been through their app, and now they are stating they have not received payments, which my bank account reflects otherwise. Ive contacted my bank who confirmed the "missing" payments were in fact made to M&T Bank.
How does a bank lose your mortgage payments paid through their app??!
In speaking with M&T representative, I was told I would have to make 2 payments to bring my account current- absolutely not! When your personnel dropped the ball. I advised my personal bank shows payment was issued.
I then contacted my bank to requesting a letter is sent to M&T Bank showing the dates my mortgage payments posted away from my account.
I am writing asking my account is sent back to my prior lender as M&T Banks service has been awful for the past 4 months.M&T Bank

Imagine being assessed a $75 late fee on your rent because of this bank's ***** limits. Imagine being told there's nothing that can be done. Imagine the customer service reps talking over you when you call trying to get your bills paid. I've been with this bank for 12 years. I am closing my account and switching banks as I am tried of the issues with this bank. My advice, run don't walk away from this bank. PS I'm sending a bill to M&T for the late fees I incurred trying to pay my rent because this was no fault of mine. They cost me an extra $75 I would not have had otherwise. And they don't care about their customers.M&T Bank

I would give 0 stars if possible. Since M&T took over my loan from ******** I have had nothing but a HORRIBLE experience. Multiple issues trying to process online payments, multiple failed auto drafts resulting in late payments, NO COMMUNICATION about missed/ failed drafts... I have asked MULTIPLE times for an address update over the course of MONTHS, where I'm assured each time its updated only for items to be sent to the incorrect address etc. Another Example: I requested a simple explanation letter from M&T verifying what account its been drafting (on a Monday); they said I would have the letter by Friday. Wednesday I received a denial letter for something I never applied for, and still no letter I DID request for by Friday. The following Monday I follow up again, finally received a 2nd letter... FOR ANOTHER THING I NEVER REQUESTED....get this... WITH THE OLD ADDRESS IN THE HEADER... Still no verification letter. M&T royally ******* sucks! I've yet to have any positive experience with them . I escalated all the way to the VP of the department I need.... still no response. It should NOT be this hard!M&T Bank

Had a car loan with these guys for only two months because I traded it in. The loan still shows open (not paid off) on my credit report. So, I tried to log in to my account, and they closed the account online, so I have no access to any of the information. I called, and they asked me to verify the account by telling them my payoff amount. I don't know that! I asked if I could verify the account another way; they said no. I said I just need you guys to report to the credit agencies that this account is closed and paid off. She said, "I'm putting you on hold to see what I can do." Never came back. Rude! So to date I still have an open account with them even though I don’t. Miserable person on the phone with me.M&T Bank

The worst bank ever. I had a 75 month installment loan for my car. I made 67 out of 75 payments on time. I was late 8 times due my my divorce. Even though i made all payments and recieved my title, these guys are reporting my loan as a charge off. It is impacting my credit score by 100 points. I think they do it for tax purposes. How is it poossible that i paid off the loan and they charge it off. Its very unfortunate. They are reporting late payments as missed payments.M&T Bank

M&T BANK IS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST MORTGAGE COMPANY EVER. MORTGAGE COMPANY KEEP GOING UP ON MY MORTGAGE EVERy MONTH. EVERY MANAGER HAS A DIFFERENT EXPLANATION AND NO DOCUMENTATION WAS TAKEN. MANAGERS SPOKEN TO HAS NO CLUE AS TO WHAT THE OTHER MANAGER HAS BEEN DOING. THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST COMPANY EVER. DO NOT EVER DO BANKING OR GET MORTGAGE WITH M&T BANK !!!!M&T Bank

Evicted a 73 yo disabled vet from home 9/11/2024. I owed $3000 for my last payment and they swooped in and paid then evicted me. Lived in my home for 23 years and never was late on payments. Got swindled in a loan for pool I needed for medical reasons. Paid for over 11 years at $350/m and pool loan came down $6000.M&T Bank

You evicted me without humanly considering my truthful situation. I know you wrote off my debt and came after me taking my home from me. How can you sleep at night knowing what horrible business practices you have. Left me homeless and afraid because at my age I am an easy target for a crime. But I’m sure you are sleeping well. I was in contact with the CEO’s assistant by email. She called your mortgage department and they basically said too bad. You took my life’s savings causing me to use my SSI on and scared if anything medically occurs. You took my retirement after I put in 28 1/2 years at the same business. My payments are up to date, including late charges and escrow. Called M&T today to change my due date due to job and payday changes. The rep told me that I could only change my due date with a refinance. If I refinanced, it sure WOULD NOT be with M&T. My old mortgage company sold out and now I’m stuck with a greedy mortgage lender.M&T Bank
