ive been trying to pay my phone bill since after 12 am last night and my bank card keeps getting declined.i have more than enough in there to pay my bill but keeps getting declined and when i call to see why,im ran around,lied to ir just put on hold and no one comes back.these fools also keep authorizing transactions when no funds are available putting me in over draft and charging me fees.i hate this pos so called bankCustomer Answer

I had several fraudulent debits to NY checking acct @ end of April. M&T Bank provisionally gave me back then $ after I disputed. Then they decided it was a "Real" charge to "**** *****" (4/26/25)& again debited my acct on 5/30/25. I do not do social media & neither my husband nor I purchased anything. **** *****/M&TBank/*** provided a "photo" that this criminal took near my front door, showing all of my potted plants & NO PACKAGE!! Additionally, the supposed "proof" that M&T Bank provided shows a Fictitious email address & Incorrect phone # for me -Not Mine. *** provided the below "tracking#" & date of supposed shipment of 4/28/25.
I Need the $531.74 back in my checking acct please & then I will withdraw $ & close long standing acct with M&T Bank because they are a Horrible bank, & liars. We read on ****** forum that this particular scam is happening to others in the same $ amount.Business Response

M&T Bank took out money from. my account without my authorization have called them 4 times and all they say is that it was in process. My last call I had with them they had me sent proof to an email address they provided. They did not respond at all. checking account was in $-700 due to this incident. I am a single mother living paycheck to paycheck trying to put food on the table. The fact that I got paid from my job and yet I wasn't able to pay for any bills since I had to cover the negatives already. They finally called me after having to go to my local police dept. They have reimbursed me $800 from the $1,585.00 that was taken from me. including insufficient charges that I had due to having no money due to them. I would never of scheduled 3 payments on the same or the following day. I know this scam very well. As I said before living pay check to pay check I don’t play with money. Someone is going to be reimbursing me or I can go back to the police.

I am filing this complaint to report the unacceptable conduct of M&T Bank, who is unjustifiably delaying the closing of my real estate transaction by withholding critical closing documents without providing any valid explanation. We went under contract March 17, 2025 with a closing date of April 30, 2025. M&T previously agreed we could do an assumable VA loan. The sellers were approved and M&T had no issues moving forward. They’ve repeatedly delayed closing for no given reason multiple times. We are supposed to close on Monday, June 16, 2025 and they have gone silent; refusing to provide the CD.
All loan conditions have been met, and the transaction is otherwise ready to close. Despite this, the lender has failed to release the required documentation necessary for finalizing the closing. This delay appears to be deliberate or at best grossly negligent, as no clear reason or timeline has been communicated. The lack of responsiveness and transparency is causing significant hardship and financial strain, not only for me but also for other parties involved in the transaction.
This behavior is obstructive, unprofessional, and contrary to fair lending and closing practices. It is effectively holding the entire transaction hostage and undermines confidence in the integrity of the lending process.Business Response

My account was frozen without any sort of warning or heads up. Deposits and payments just stopped.
Thankfully I was able to catch this before and major damage was done but imagine if I hadn’t?

On Sunday my grandmother attempted to send me a ***** payment and then I called in to see why it wasn’t going through. They have now placed a hold on my account and have put the account under investigation of fraud. I have no access to any of my money, my car is being repaired in Long Island right now so I have no way of transport. I took the bus to work today and couldn’t even pay for the fare. I have no groceries and I am now starving myself because of this hold. I have called the fraud department several times, I walked into a branch and had them call the fraud department and I just keep being told someone will be in contact with me. The fact my entire account has been locked and they have no urgency to call me is blocking my access to my funds to live. In a few days my internet bill is due, in a week my rent is due and I will have no way of paying it if this isn’t resolved. This is not a safeguard to protect me from fraud. I believe that the woman who was answering my call about my grandmother suspected I was not who I said I was. This may be due to the fact I am a trans woman and my voice can sound deeper than most women. I believe I am the subject of discrimination and am being restricted from my bank account unfairly without proper haste or ability from this investigation team. I have been told to keep my ringer on for the past two days and no calls have come my way. I am without any way of having money because of suspected fraud and it is inconveniencing me and putting me in danger.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. I believe that simply saying that discrimination is not present does not prove anything, as I feel I was geniunely questioned and doubted regarding my identity due to the ignorance of the person on the other line. I was able to provide information and confirmation that I was who I said I was, merely for an inquiry on my own grandmother sending me money that was denied. Instead of helping me the person on the other line sounded the alarm and made the next two days of my life hell. I was told differeing pieces of information and was instructed to travel to the nearest M&T branch, which I had to take the bus get to. I proceeded to wait around for the Fraud department's reponse while being told by each customer service represenative that "this should only take a few hours". I ended up getting dirt and water trapped in my shoes as it poured down rain with me still having no access to my money, which led to me starving as I awaited a response. I think that denying discrimination accusations is a sign of a company that doesn't care about their customer's words. If they cared they would apologize for their employee's actions instead of just defending their company policy outright. I think better accomdations should be made to make the fraud department a better place for people like me and for anyone who may just have a vocal register that doesn't match their gender, whether they are trans or not.

I am writing to formally dispute inaccurate information that M&T Bank has reported to the credit bureaus regarding my auto loan account. According to my credit report, M&T Bank has reported this account as open as of December 31, 1969, which is both incorrect and impossible.
This auto loan was paid in full and closed, and the incorrect reporting of this account as open has negatively impacted my credit score by five points. I respectfully request that M&T Bank immediately investigate and correct this error with all major credit reporting agencies (********, *******, and **********).
Please update the account status to reflect that the loan is paid and closed and remove the erroneous open date of December 31, 1969. Additionally, I request written confirmation of the correction once it has been made.

On June 10th M&T took out a double $500 truck payment instead of just one. Which resulted in an insufficient fund fee in my bank account on June 11th. I want that insufficient fun fee reimbursed back to my account. They are already reimbursing me in $500 in 10 days. I can supply bank account and routing number for reimbursement upon request or I prefer a check for reimbursement of $37 sent to me so I can deposit back into my bank account to cover insufficient funds feeBusiness Response

I opened a checking account with M & T Bank online 2/28/25 and deposited $25.00 initial deposit as requested on 3/3/25. I used the account for online gambling with ******* on 3/2/25 - 3/5/25 and deposited my winnings of $148.00. Total amount of $173.00. The bank then sent me a notice that I could not have the account and they were doing a fraud investigation. I am 55 years old and clearly old enough to gamble if I choose. I won additional money and deposited the amount before I received the notice of cancellation, the bank returned those funds to ******* but held on to the $173.00 for some reason. I received an ATM card and called the bank but was told that I could not use the card to withdraw my funds nor could I come into the branch for a refund. I have been having extensive conversations with the branch and headquarters to receive my funds and have been getting the run around for the past three months. I keep getting told they would close the account and send either a check or return the funds to *******. I don’t understand how the funds can go back to ******* after all of this time. I simply want the money that is rightfully mine either by check or in the branch. There was no fraud and they have no right to keep my money.Business Response
