Locate Family keeps my full name, address and phone number despite contacting them since 2019. I even sent a bank statement header to prove my ID and asked them to remove it. No response.
I work in law enforcement (direct contact with offenders) and having my personal info on public display is a risk the company does not seem to acknowledge or bother about. I have contacted them several times, only to be ignored. I fear for my safety and that of my family.Business Response

They posted my personal information on their main page and it is impossible to contact the owner of this website to remove it. The "background check" they provide takes you to a complete different website known as ********** which I also had to request to remove my information, but my information is still available to view on Locate Family's website and I need it removed immediately. This website is a scam and doesn't have a useful OPT OUT method. Please help me! I have provided the link and screenshot of my information that I would like erased. ***********************************************Business Response

Because LocateFamily.com is unable to ascertain the identity of an individual making a request to remove information, LocateFamily.com will only remove information if the individual making the request can prove that the information in question refers to himself/herself. To do this LocateFamily.com requires that the individual provide a photograph or scanned image of a valid piece of REASONABLE identification showing the same name (and address information) as that which is to be removed. REASONABLE identification is not formal government issued ID, but is instead something like a business card, statement, invoice or mailing label showing the name and address. This ID should be e-mailed to LocateFamily.com via ******************** . Once it is received, LocateFamily.com will indicate in its records that the ID has been received for a given e-mail address and will promptly remove the information. This means that any future requests (should the information inadvertently be re-displayed) using the same e-mail address for the same information will be processed without delay. DO NOT SEND GOVERNMENT ISSUED ID. The type of identification we require would be ANY LEGITIMATE DOCUMENT THAT CAN REASONABLY PROVE YOUR IDENTITY. This could include a copy of a bill, mailing label, business card, etc. Please understand that these measures have been introduced to prevent abuse, as we have no other way of confirming an individual's true identity. These measures have been vetted by our attorneys as a reasonable and lawful means of establishing identity.Customer Answer

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
This website/company is also owned/affiliated with **** ******** or ****************. On 9/8/2021, I received confirmation that my information was successfully removed from **** ********, without having to provide another form of ID and using the same email address that includes my full legal name. Why is Locate Family (**** ******** alias name) now causing an inconvenience when I am requesting that my information be removed form that site? It’s not possible for me to provide any “ID” with the address they have listed, as I do not live there anymore. However, I’d still like my name and phone number removed?? How does this hurt YOUR company? This company is a scam and I believe they are part of a bigger phishing scam or involved in identity theft because it’s absolutely absurd that their “opt out” tool isn’t legitimate and they also have NUMEROUS complaints on here, with victims begging to have their information removed, but Locate Family isn’t respecting their privacy rights. How are they able to keep their domain?? Honestly. This is dangerous and careless.Initial Complaint

I found my legal name and address posted publicly on their website without my knowledge or consent. I sent a request to have it removed, through the process the website specifies. I received an email stating I need to provide personal information such as a utility bill to have it removed, because they claimed I might be someone who stole my identity rather than myself. I replied and stated I would do no such thing, and it was on them to remove my information per my request. I received two snide emails in response, one reassuring me they weren't asking for my government ID, and the other stating they had a legal right to publicly publish my information because they obtained it from voting records. They also stated they are not obligated to remove my information even if I request it. All of these emails were in broken English, I believe this site to be a foreign scammer. I am requesting BBB assist me in having my information removed from their site, as well as BBB penalize them within their capability to do so. Thank you.Business Response

They are repeating almost the same message verbatim they sent me initially. I am not providing them with any personal information or documentation. They say they don't know if I'm really me, I can't trust them with what they would do with my personal information. No other data broker site requests or requires this.

I requested that locatefamily.com remove my personal information from their website and they refused to do so.
In an effort to harvest additional private information, they are now demanding that I provide them with additional confidential information. Could you please help me stop this entity from selling personal information? It is just wrong. In the alternative, could you please assist me in getting my personal information removed from their website? Thank you.Business Response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below: It is outrageous for a company (ironically named Locate Family) who's sole purpose is to mine peoples private information, to demand that I provide them with EVEN MORE of my personal information in order to make them stop publishing my personal information. Without permission - this company sells personal data for money and they've created this hook to get people to give them even more information. There are thousands of complaints about this company (not all with BBB). Can anything be done to stop them? There are laws protecting people from enduring these sorts of personal data harvesting practices. I am grateful for any assistance you can offer. Kind regards,
