      SmartEnergy has proven to me to be a very cost effective source for my home electricity needs & have found their customer service reps to be knowledgeable, patient and caring!

      They promised to charge me $.087/KWH and give me a $100 reward card if I sent in a copy of my 6th(?) bill. From February until my July billing month, that's what they charged. Sometime in late August or early September, I sent in the bill copy and just received the $100 card (and they misspelled my name). My August charge was $.174/KWH, and my September charge was $.229/KWH. Given that **** is currently charging less than $.07/KWH, this is egregiously ridiculous. I was not contacted by them to let me know that my rate would increase, to offer me another plan. Nothing.
      I called the PUCO and was told that there is no cap on how much these companies can charge, and that SmartEnergy is currently being investigated by them due to the volume of complaints.
      I have switched from them, and I strongly suggest that you dump them as soon as you can send in the bill for the reward.

The volatility in the commodity markets have been unprecedented. We would welcome the opportunity to speak to you directly. If you are willing, please call us at **************."Although I had no faith that they meant to do anything to resolve this issue since I'd talked to one of their agents prior to writing this complaint, I gave them the benefit of the doubt (slim) and called just now.. After speaking to an agent, the end result was exactly the same. They had no intentions of working with me to provide a different rate, which I am stuck with until next month because of the choice program's 2-month transfer period.Smart Energy, do not act like you care when you have now twice demonstrated that you do NOT care. Do not ask us to contact you when you do not wish to work with people, and stop making lame excuses about the commodities market - plenty of other companies don't. You have As the first agent said to me, you will only refund money IF the *** forces you to do so. So your $100 reward is worthless because I've already paid more than $100 EXTRA because of your price hike. As far as I'm concerned, you are unethical and disingenuous when you send conciliatory messages. You don't WANT us to have this experience, but this is all you GIVE.Anyone reading this would do very well to avoid this company because they DO NOT CARE if something happens. They claim to have sent me mail. Either I didn't receive it, and I've had mail lost by the **** my whole life, or I didn't realize what the letter was. This company is run by uncaring jackanapes who will not, apparently, back down from price-gouging.

      Awful, scam! Wont stop calling and calling, I read reviews and we arent that stupid! They wont remove our number from their database and hang up when asked

      On August and September 2022, I received my electric bills from PECO I was shocked when I seen that my bill was $499.00 that SmartEnergy over charged me. I had sign up with SmartEnergy over a year ago I had never had no problems with SmartEnergy. My electric bills was always low. I never in my life had a electric bill that high ever before. I called SmartEnergy about this matter. I called 4 different times and talk to 4 different agents. Unfortunately the 3 female agents was very unprofessional. They had bad attitudes. They was cutting me off, getting loud at me, talking over me, they kept putting me on hold and changing their stories when I was calling them out on their lies (including the male agent). ** agents was very disrespectful to me. They never gave me a straight answer (refused) for the reason why my bill was so high. I had enough dealing with SmartEnergy agent I told the agents if you don't want to resolve this matter. I will have no choice to file a claim and report ** to ****court and the media. That when SmartEnergy agents wanted to make a deal with me to lower my electric bill. But only if I commit to staying with **. I kept asking how much are you going to lower my bill too? 3 of the agents refused to answer my question. SmartEnergy agents kept repeating to me are going to stay with SmartEnergy? The ** agents said if I don't commit to stay with SmartEnergy they will keep the bill as is. I said NO! I'm not staying with SmartEnergy and I will be ending my service with SmartEnergy today and I did. If you are thinking about signing up with SmartEnergy, PLEA** don't do it! The so call free $100.00 gift cards that SmartEnergy give to new customers. You will be paying it back with high charges on your electric bill. I did filed a claim with the **** small claim court and hire a lawyer.My lawyer advised me if this matter doesn't get resolved we are going to the media.

      Attractive intro rates and $200 **** card carrot at the end of the 6 month stick. Cancelled after 6 months and attempted to receive my **** card - Hahahahaha! Inane, ************* from the mouths of the 'customer service' reps: you are only eligible for $100 with no explanation provided, you have to enroll for (additional) 12 months to quality (despite Dec 2012 - July 2022 enrollment), no supervisors available for call back before ***** hours (even though one 'supervisor' was 'busy with another customer' apparently for at least 48 hours), and the best statement: "You can call any agency you choose to file a complaint". After believing the company's initial attractive offer and meeting their requirements to receive the elusive $200 **** card, apparently I am more gullible than I thought. Shame on ***** to agree to a partnership with this sleazy company. "If it seems too good to be true...it probably isn't". Shame on me....

      I experienced the same thing as apparently everyone else here. Was preyed upon in a *** **** with promises of lower rates, my last several bills have been 4x the rate of my local supplier - $300-$400 each, and after I cancelled, they charged me for ANOTHER month and refused to reimburse me. Should absolutely be illegal; it is completely predatory.

      My electric rates have increased since March. The **** in **** was $450 and in July $630. I am 72 years old and the only person in my home. I never use my dryer and did not use my AC the last month to lower my ****. I have NEVER had two bills this high. I have resided here for 40 years. When I called them they simply told me they were charging me the greatest amount for electric service. I have filed a complaint with ****. This company should be banned from offering electric service to anyone. They are crooks!!! I have stopped their service to my current electric company.

      ABSOLUTE SCAM. Same issue as many other people -- Was promised lower rates and a $100 gift card. Was used to paying anywhere between $80-$120 for my electric **** (I live in a small apartment complex and am very energy conscious). My bills have been $300+ out of NO WHERE. Never received the introductory gift card and was SCAMMED into getting much higher rates. In the process of switching back to my original provider. In a time where people are STRUGGLING to live, SmartEnergy Holdings is DESPICABLE.
