I've been a FirstEnergy/Ohio Edison customer for 3 years, paying via autopay with no issues. At some point this year, they lost my information in some data transfer and never informed me. They say that they sent this information via email, but I never received it. They continued to email my bills every month, all of which I received and still have, but these emails make no note of delinquent payments, direct debit issues, or the possibility of power being disconnected. (That information is apparently available if you log into their website, but I'd argue that's not what "we will notify you" implies.)In any case, returning from a trip on the night of June 15, I discovered that my power had been shut off while I was away. Food was rotten in my fridge, the house was pitch black, and a note was slid under the door from June 10, saying they were turning off my power *that day*.I called, but it was after-hours, so I sent an urgent email. They never responded; so I've called again. Their response today: "our records show that we sent an email notice about your autopay." I told them, as I said above, that I never received this, and because all my ebills get through, I should have (i.e. it wouldn't have gone to junk mail). I read through each ebill on the phone; none mention autopay, delinquent charges, or risk of disconnect. They didn't ******* now, to get my power reconnected, they're charging $104 in penalties and connection fees. This is particularly galling since my entire reason for setting up autopay was to avoid this very circumstance. They've bluntly refused to waive any of these penalties, despite their own failure to maintain my autopay or contact me, insisting that I could have found the information if I'd have logged in every month (which, of course, ignores the purpose of autopay).I'm sure they have done the minimum to prevent legal jeopardy, but this reads as unethical to me. If electricity wasn't a legal monopoly, I'd leave this company today.

Worst customer service ever, the ***** minute hold time to even talk to someone. Is one thing. But once you get through something as simple as, I need a statement to show when my electricity was turned on. They could not do. When you ask to talk to supervisor one will call you back when they have time. I don't have 2hours of my time to get a statement. By the way I'm still waiting on that supervisor call 48 hours later. Worst company ever, they need shut down!!!

The most worthless power company. Really shows the decline of the ************* and its infrastructure. This company has zero customer support so good luck getting an account opened or transferred. Good luck getting power turned back on after their outdated equipment finally goes down. ********** 100% worthless.

If I could give negative stars I would. After several calls in that last hours still I am unable to speak with the applications team to start new service and apparently no one else can help nor is there a supervisor available to help as well as no direct number to reach the applications team and when I ask for a corporate number, I get the number for HR. The absolute worst experience ever This process of online requests and phone calls have been going on for 2 weeks. West Penn power will not call out to anyone so I get to call it and wait for 2 hours to get a customer service representative just so they can transfer me to another department and wait another 2 hours to get absolutely nothing accomplished.

I have lived in half a dozen cities across multiple states, and FirstEnergy is hands down the WORST utility company I have ever had the displeasure to be forced to do business with. Their “budget billing” process is a joke, “annual” budget billing means that the amount should not change very three months, it should change ANNUALLY, and also the average should be for the ENTIRE BILL, not “here is the budget for the delivery charges, but the provider charges are going to vary every single month.” Lately they’ve added fees to people who pay via bank account for crying out loud, because getting money directly from my account wasn’t good enough so they added a middle man to take a cut which I am paying additional fees for? Now they’re updating accounts, forcing password resets, and the system is, surprise surprise, broken, so no one is getting the new required verification codes and instead just can’t access accounts to pay bills at all. I hate this company with every fiber of my being. If there was any way for me to work with a less worthless utility company, I would leave First Energy behind in a heartbeat. They are just the WORST

Could not resolve my issue without speaking to customer service to give my payment confirmation number , 3 hour hold time , payment made at 2pm no call back till 5pm with puts me out of the same day reconnect , customer service hold time is not my issue and should not affect my reconnect of service or delay it we the customers pay enough money there should be plenty of people to answer the phone and technicians to restore service timely

JCP&L or First Energy is a terrible company. Can never speak to a human. You are put on hold for hours. I have to call every month because of billing issues. I would not give them any stars.
