      Payroll deposits often late.. sometimes don't happen until you complain about it daily and send them proof from employees banking screenshots... for up to weeks at a time.
      POS services are no better, and when they crash completely, they do not respond to service calls for help. Oh, but once you cancel services, they call to "check in on that one issue."
      Do not waste your time with these talentless hacks!

      Heartland Payroll spoke with our primary payroll contact to discuss this issue. It was discovered that our payroll client had accidentally processed multiple payrolls in August and July that caused their check dates to be pushed forward, directly impacting their employees’ pay schedule. Heartland Payroll does not process this payroll, as this client utilizes our online payroll application to process their own payroll. This error was discovered when the client called Heartland Payroll recently and we have since worked directly with them to rectify the issue and ensure all employees receive their proper pay at the proper time going forward. It is always an alarming and uncomfortable situation to not receive your paycheck on time, and we do appreciate and apologize for the frustration and confusion caused to the employees of our client. Unfortunately, Heartland Payroll is unable to work directly with non-authorized contacts for security reasons and we can appreciate how an employee calling in without proper authorization information could lead to a frustrating experience. We do encourage employees of our clients to work with their internal leaders and they in turn can work with Heartland Payroll if they are an authorized account contact for the payroll.

      Please do not use this system. They failed to take the appropriate amount of taxes out of our companies paychecks for 7 months. So now we get to catch up. I understand things happen. However, what are we paying them for? They offered a few months of free service. WHAT? OMG...stay away...far far away. For the 2 income households it may not be as bad...but for us single income households already strapped? This is going to level us. Their feeling was that we should have been paying attention. I'm sorry? What do we pay you for? This is a blue collar company and most of the employees here are not going to pay attention to that. They have put their trust in the company and the company has trusted Heartland. Did the account manager even get reprimanded? We literally got no answers or explanations. We received a lame letter, not even hand signed, trying to apologize. Cited that they are sorry for the inconvenience. The confusion and frustration that we are all feeling, they understand. Right! They called it an oversight. An oversight...please Heartland...take yourself out of the game. You suck at your job!

      Upon receipt and internal investigation of employee ******** *********** complaint with the Better Business Bureau regarding a tax frequency change for 2023, we were able to determine that Heartland’s Client Services team did update the client’s payroll frequency as instructed. However, Heartland did not switch the individual employee’s frequency to reflect the updated client payroll frequency. Had the employee's payroll frequency also been updated, this would have resulted in higher federal and state tax withholdings.
      We have spoken with the Heartland client contact on the account, Esther, and she advised that Kimberly has submitted what she would like her withholdings to look like over the remaining payrolls for 2023. This would allow her to catch up for the taxes that should have been withheld year to date. Our client advised that she will be sending a spreadsheet with the information of the breakdown to the assigned Payroll Specialist. We appreciate Esther working with us to go over options and assisting in the resolution for their employee.

      Once again, not understanding the frustration. Of course I updated. I had to. Or face a huge liability at the end of the year. This is something that should have never happened in the first place if the people responsible for this would have done their job. I am also pointing out, which Heartland is not mentioning, that this was for 7 months. My paychecks are now close to $200 shorter in order to catch up. Once again, WHAT DO WE PAY YOU FOR? That is $400 a month extra going to taxes until the end of the year. When I budgeted for rent, car payments, and all the other stuff we pay for to live I didn't budget $400 a month to go to something like this. And the people responsible still have their job. If I pulled something like this...please. I would be flipping burgers.

      Do not use Heartland pay roll system they are a big scam the service is terrible they take more money out of ur account than they supposed to they cause a lot of overdrafts and don’t wanna correct their mistakes I’m warning you they are the worst company to deal with so don’t waist ur time go to quick books.

      * ***** ************ * ****** did run about eight payrolls with Heartland Payroll and there were two payrolls Heartland Payroll was unable to debit the payroll funding from the client bank account on file. We attempted to contact the client to determine the issue but were not always able to reach them. We did finally connect in mid-June and refunded * ***** ************ * ****** $136.89 for their payroll invoices as a courtesy. Heartland Payroll did not attempt to collect any further payroll funds from * ***** ************ * ******. Heartland Payroll does appreciate the feedback provided.

      This payroll company paid my employees late 3x last year and blame FedEx overnight for the delays. I understand things happen but my employees need paid on time. I’ve never had a problem with ups so I decided to switch back to **** The icing on the cake for me is my w2. Heartland messed mine up and my account and I have been trying to have them correct it. It’s been 5+ months and still no w2. I do not recommend this payroll company to anyone, ADP is more professional and more organized.

      Heartland Payroll apologizes for the delivery issues you experienced with our national delivery vendor. Unfortunately, inclement weather can affect delivery timelines. Heartland Payroll does suggest processing your payroll 2-business days prior to your check date to allow time should there be unavoidable things such as inclement weather that could delay delivery. We did issue a $75 credit to your bank account to try and ease the pain of your delayed delivery. A corrected W2 has been completed and is available to you online. Should you not be able to obtain your corrected W2 online, please feel free to contact us and we will provide that to you by another means. We apologize for the frustration you have experienced with Heartland Payroll and we wish you and your business success.

      I used Heartland Payroll for over a year, switched to a new payroll provider due to Workers Comp Ins being included. Found out the hard way they never paid my Unemployment Insurance but deducted it from my account each payroll. Now customer service will not respond or help get the money they took back, go figure. I WOULD NOT USE THIS COMPANY for anything unless you are fond of loosing money and having the state of federal government come after you with fines and penalties.

      Heartland Payroll had an incorrect tax ID on file due to a human error. We were making payments on behalf of I******** ********* ********* *** but not to their assigned ID with the **** Unemployment Agency. Our Tax team is working with **** Unemployment to secure a refund to our client of additional funds paid - OR - have the additional funds paid applied to future tax liability incurred. Heartland Payroll has spoken with I******** ********* ********** *** and they are in agreement with this resolution plan. While we do have internal checks and balances to reduce human error, there is still a small percentage of human errors that do exist and we apologize to our client that they were negatively impacted by this error.

      DONT USE THEM!!! My first problem with them was a short payment of around $14000.00 to the IRS, because they filed our taxes incorrectly. It took about a year and a half to fix. They also didn't adjust our new rate for Employment Security, and they underpaid the State of Washington for 6 months. They "did me a favor" and paid that bill. Now we are receiving notices again from the State of Washington because they used one payroll instead of our full quarter when they filed our UI Taxes. They amended that return but didn't amend the payment so now I am getting bill for over $3000.00. I have been trying to get them to fix it but it has been over 3 months now. I know that if I pay the taxes due, I am simply going to be out $3000.00, I fully believe I will never see that money again. So, the State is threatening me with raising my rates.
      I have sent emails and called many times, and I can't even get a supervisor to call me back. This company is a joke.
      The only reason my payrolls are correct is because I do them myself!

      There was a delay in resolving the state of Washington filings and payments for ********** ******* ***********  Heartland Payroll did confirm that the payment was made on behalf of ********** ******* ********** on June 7th, 2023. Heartland Payroll has covered the penalty and interest that was assessed due to the late payments. Payments were made late as a result of an internal Heartland Payroll error that has since been rectified. ********** ******* ********** should not experience this issue moving forward. We do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused our client and appreciate their understanding in this matter.

      I just another bill from the State of *********** so it hasn't be fixed completely. Now I also receievd a penalty notice from the IRS for $13149.47 for payroll taxes. There have been so many tax delinquencies because of Heartland I can't even keep up.

      This is the worst company I've ever dealt with. We are being fined monthly because Heartland seems to be unable to file our withholding taxes in a timely manner and Heartland could not care less. It takes them 10 days to respond to even simple questions (if at all). We tried adding Heartland Time to our Heartland Payroll system and had to discontinue it because of so many payroll errors. I've been through three "payroll specialists", thinking the issue was just that person, but the issue is definitely company wide. I honestly don't understand how they are still in business. RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!! DO NOT USE!!!!!

      Heartland Payroll does work with our clients and their individual circumstances to ensure resolution. Heartland’s first withholding tax payment to the Missouri withholding tax agency was rejected. This WAS due to a Heartland internal error. Heartland did not enter the **** ** **** ********** withholding tax ID into our systems. The ******** withholding agency did begin charging penalties and interest for that rejected payment as it was now considered late. Heartland will be reimbursing the City of **** ******** for any out-of-pocket expenses as a result of this error. The withholding tax ID has been entered into Heartland’s systems and there should no longer be issues with ******** withholding tax payments being posted timely with the agency. We sincerely apologize for the aggravation this has caused our client.

      1. I was given the referral from our Insurance company. I began using Heartland in the summer of 2022, they were not helpful with the process and harassed me when I didn't get them the information they needed to start up the first payroll. I ended up having to call in the payroll in and our employees were paid 2 days late causing a LOT of stress on the employees.
      2. I received the w-2's and when I gave it to my tax preparer, they told me I owed $7,000 to the Federal Government. I was told that my payroll company wasn't deducting federal taxes from my paychecks. I only had 1/4 of what I should have had withdrawn
      I've emailed, I've called repeatedly and I have been told that the tax department doesn't speak with clients. I've been told that they don't know how it happened. I'm the only person in the company that has this happen to them. I've been told that they will call me, yet I have heard absolutely nothing.
      3. I spoke with someone yesterday, since payroll is going in this coming Monday, I asked if the tax issue will be resolved so Federal taxes will begin coming out and I was told, they didn't know and since the tax department isn't client based they didn't know if or when it would be fixed. I asked when I could expect to hear something and she said 6 weeks or more. My husband is furious, we are without answers, I'm having to find a new payroll company and this is an extremely busy time of year for our company.
      I've been running this company for 27 years and I've had to do business with several payroll companies over those years and this is just disgraceful. I'm looking at contacting an attorney if this isn't resolved by the end of this month.

      That response is completely ambiguous at best. I feel they have not tried or even attempted to try and work with me regarding this issue. All I've received is that it was a tax issue and their tax department isn't client based.

      Good customer service! Easy to get a hold of someone! And any issues I’ve had have always been cleared up the same day. And both their payroll and timesheet systems are very easy to navigate and very user-friendly.
