On Monday August 8th, 2022 (this year) I scheduled the plumber from Roto Rooter to fix the water heater in the basement of my house however instead of fixing the water heater the plumber flooded my basement and caused water damage to my basement walls. The plumber did not fix anything and was arguing with me. I had to cancel the appointment and have my family member escort the plumber from my property to keep him from causing further damage. I want Roto Rooter to pay for the cost to fix and repair my basement and the water heater and any damages to my property that the plumber caused on that day.

On 6/28/2022 I contacted Rotor-Rooter for water heater repair. First technician "Colt", arrived 6/29/2022. Colt completed his assessment and recommended replacement of water heater instead of repairs for a fee of $1800-$2000, which I declined.

On 6/29/2022 I was contacted by second technician "Kris" who also visited rental property and assessed needed repairs. Kris determined the thermocouple housing was burnt out and replacement of the thermocouple would be pointless. Kris recommended replacement entire thermocouple housing, Kris also made note of a gas leak. Finding of the gas leak was questionable being that a Vectren technician has visited the property less than 24hrs prior to Kris and never mentioned a gas leak. Nonetheless, Kris felt leaking pipe & thermocouple housing needed to be replaced, he would complete once ordered parts arrived. A payment of $500 was required in order to proceed. Payment was successfully processed.

4th of July weekend was upon us, Kris stated all business offering needed parts were closed until 7/5. 7/5 at 3:42pm I contacted Kris to verify his intended arrival and completion of paid services. Kris stated, " I ordered the parts yesterday, until parts arrive my hands are tied". 7/6 2:17pm I contacted Kris again who stated parts had not arrived but he would be willing to install new water heater for $2000 minus $500 already paid, I declined. No further communication occurred between Kris & I.

On 7/8 at 12:30p I contacted Rotor-Rooter and demanded to speak with a supervisor, I spoke with a gentleman named Allen who was the proud owner of the establishment, I then voiced my concerns. Allen reassured me I would be contacted later that evening. Technician Jim called 7/8 4:30p, I made Jim aware of my intent to cancel services and requested a refund, Jim responded a refund would be issued in 3-5 business days.

As of 8/5/2022 No refund has been received, nor have repairs been completed.

Roto has processed the refund.  It may take a little time to appear on a statement.

This issue was to be resolved according to an email I received on July 8, 2022.
General Manager Adolfo A***** stated that a refund was to be mailed to me for an overcharged service amount. The e- mail states that it would be mailed within 7 to 10 business days. It has been nearly 30 days and I have not received a check. I have spoken with Mr. A*****, and he has assured me that the refund was processed and is being mailed.
Please contact him to find out if indeed a promised refund exists.

In May our sewage pipe backed up and burst in our basement. We called Roto-Rooter to unclog the line and clean up the mess. They initially quoted us for $3,500 and said our homeowners insurance would most likely cover it.
After the cleanup they left fans and dehumidifiers to air out the basement. Then we got a call saying that the cost would be “a little more than the initial estimate”. We then asked for the new amount, which he would not give us. As well as a ballpark estimate of the new amount, which he also wouldn’t give us.
Then we received a bill for over $8,000 that our homeowners insurance did not pay.
On top of that, they refused to give us an itemized list for what we were being charged.
Later on, we were worried about sewage fumes coming from the basement. We called and voiced our concerns and they sent out a technician. He didn’t bring any equipment to test the air quality. Stating only that he didn’t smell anything.
When we had a plumber from another company come out to investigate, he immediately said that he smelled sewage fumes.
We were mislead, dismissed and put in danger by Rotor-Rooter’s incompetent and deceptive technicians. All contracts were shrouded in language that everyday people can’t understand.

On May 27th 2022 Roto Rooter Services was called by
the homeowner to come to the home located at **** * ******** *** in Springfield
Oh because a floor drain had backed up causing sewage to overflow into the
basement.  Our technician used a Roto
Rooter machine to clear the blockage in the main sewer line.  Roto Rooter services was also contracted by
the customer to complete the water mitigation services in the overflow affected
area of the basement.  An initial estimate
to clean up the water/sewage damage was given to the customer on 6/28.  That total was $3500-$4000.  When work began, it was determined that the
scope of work was going to increase, and a change of scope and price was given
to the customer and signed for and improved on 7/1/22 for a new price of $6500-
$7900.  This work was approved and agreed
to by ***** *****.  (See attached
documents).   On 7/17/22 Roto Rooter was
called back to the home because of a “sewer smell” . Our technician went to the
home and determined that there is a broken cast iron tee in the basement that
needed to be repaired.  No water or
sewage was leaking into the home, but that was causing the issue.  Repair was declined, and we left the home.
Roto Rooter performed all contracted duties on the home on
both the initial service call for the backup, as well as the water cleanup.  The customer was quoted a price before work began
and signed off acknowledging that and allowing work to begin.  Claiming that they did not know the charges,
were not explained the charges, etc is simply not true.  They charges were explained, agreed to, and
signed for as you can see in the attached contracts.
Roto Rooter will not be issuing a refund.

I called called (7/27/22) Roto-rooter ************ for a storm water drainage clogged. They scheduled the service in 2 days (7/29/22) with a time window of 8 to 12. They send only one technician and he arrived late after 1 pm. He had the water jetting equipment and said it will cost $721 I thought it was a steep price but after waiting for 2 days I still proceeded with it. Well in less than 3 minutes of water jetting and just over 10 feet he said that he arrived to a “hard stop” and stoped but note that he was on the truck over 100 feet apart of where he was water jetting and didn’t performed any troubleshooting. The problem wasn’t solve and I still got charged $721. Frustrated about wasting my money I proceeded to prove to my self that he didn’t reach any end of the pipe by digging a hole in the ground way pass the “hard stop” and the 6” pvc pipe drain was there. I called costumer service on 8/1/22 after explaining they put me in hold and shortly a men answered stating that the case was send for a manger to approve a refund and he (manager) will call me in 30 minutes. Well the day passed and no call and I called the next morning and they said that they send the case to the local office and they will call me in about an hour. No call or refund was received.

I spoke to customer and we discussed that we recommend not doing the service due to it being a a abandoned line and advised against doing the service. We also explained that we would have to charge if they still wanted to do the service against our recommendation. Customer still wanted the service completed and we have already issued a discount.

I contracted with Roto-rooter (*****) on 7/12/22 to flush my washer drain line and cut stack line and install test tee. After ***** left I ran the washer and received an error code that it couldn’t drain. I scheduled sears home services to repair washer. When they came on 8/2/22 they told me the washer drain was clogged. I called Roto-rooter and asked they return to finish the job. They said no since it was not guaranteed

I first contact the company on July 21st regarding a smell in my house. I was scheduled for a expert to come, waited all day for someone and they never showed up. I finally got someone to come to my house a day later. He sniff around the house and basically did nothing. I called back to Roto-Rooter July 25th cause the smell was still in my home. Waited all day again and no one called or showed up until I had to call them at 4:30 pm so a rep could say sorry nobody came yet again. I rescheduled for the next day. Gentleman came he stated issue with water draining from sink to tub was causing my issued. I paid $495 for that service. Here we are again July 28th and called and requested to speak with a manger. Manger named **** called me back, which was a complete an utter waste of time. I demanded my money back because the gentleman confirmed this would stop the smell. Of course **** said no he wasn't refunding me a thing. He can send someone with a camera to look at this issue on Friday the 29th. Friday came, nobody showed up nor called. I called Roto-rooter back and requested **** to return my call which he didn't. So here we are Monday August 1st. smell is still in my house I called and requested ****, of course no answer. But he gives another person the message about sending a camera guy out to my home and she didn't know when this set individual would be coming. He call me at 3:37pm from ###-###-#### he went on to tell me that he was on his way. I started to tell him that I wasn't home and they meaning Roto-rooter cant just send him out. He was like after the ******* day I had you need not to yell. I was like what? He was like after the ******* day I had, they drop this in my lap today and I'm trying to help you. I told him your services are no longer needed. I called back to the admin office of Roto-rooter, and is still waiting for a manager to call me back. I want my $495 back for this service. From start to finish customer service, rude, ignorant.

      Business Response

This is in regards to the customer complaint of ****** ******.  Here are the facts:

7/18 - Customer called at 10:45 am for smell. Our plumber arrived at 8pm and couldn't find any issues. We are not in the business of charging customers for no reason. Customer was not satisfied and she called back at 9:41 pm on 7/18.

7/19 - Another plumber arrived 8:30am due to her call the previous night. We also offered a 10% discount on any services. That plumber could also not find any issues that are related to plumbing. Again we are not in the business to charge customers for no reason.

I am not sure where this 7/21 no show on our part came into play and perhaps it was another company.

7/25 - customers calls in and states that her drain is clogged. We were extremely busy due to weather and we were not able to get to her residence till 7/27 at 9am. Our plumber unclogged her drain and the customer purchased DCP (Drain Cleaning Product). This service also comes with a 6 month warranty.  Customer called in 2 hours later and said her house still smells.

7/27 - I (***** called her back and spoke with her. She was demanding her money back. I did tell her we could not do that. We provided a service. I expressed to her that i could send out a camera technician at NO charge to take a look at her pipes. I told her that if she has a smell that it could be a number of possibilities. It could be an issue with a line, it could also be a dead rodent such as mice or rat in her walls that died and venting through. But we can send a camera and see if that is the issue or eliminate a possibility. Customer got very demanding asking me what time we are coming. I stated i can not guarantee a time as this is non-emergency and depending on available camera techs and jobs they have assigned. she kept demanding and getting rude and i stated i can put a not in the system per manager please try and do first thing in morning. she stated she is waiting all day and wants compensated and HUNG up on me.

7/28 - due to weather on 7/27 at night, we had some water emergencies in the morning. we were not able to get to her house. This was a Friday.

8/1 -  Monday - She called in and spoke to office admin who brought to my attention she still needs a camera service. During that call with the office Admin, Customer was getting very demanding and asking for money back as well as camera service. I called dispatch and was able to get a camera tech to be sent to customer for his next job. Camera tech called customer, AT NO POINT did the camera tech use profanity. He introduced himself and asked "what would be a good time to come to your house" . Customer then stated "you just can't come here when you want and I DO NOT WANT YOUR SERVICE, I AM CALLING SOMEONE ELSE" and HUNG UP on him.

Customer likes to hang up on everyone that is trying to help resolve her issue. We are not refunding money because of 2 reasons:

      1. Customer needs to utilize her warranty and the next step would be a camera service that i was providing for free to see if this issue of "smell" is a plumbing issues. We charged her to unclog the drain and sell a product of drain cleaning. she signed the authorized work order and agreed to pricing. we DID Not charge the previous 2x we were out for the "smell"

      2. As a business, I can not be sure there is still a "smell" or something is wrong if you refuse to have anyone back out there.

We apologize if she feels the customer service was not to her satisfaction. We can help if we are always being hung up on, customer being rude and making up an alligation of profanity.

      ****

      Business Response

      Date: 08/08/2022

Customer did call in on 8/4 to have a camera scheduled. We did put customer on a do not service list going forward. I will list the reasons again:

      1. as part of the warranty process, we told customer on 7/28 that a refund is not warranted. We provided a services that she called in for. I stated since she had the warrant i would provide a free camera to see if the bad smell was a plumbing issue or perhaps there is something such as a mouse or rat that maybe dies in the walls and venting through. I gave that example because we were out 2x previous times and could find nothing wrong with the smell. It was not a plumbing issue.  The 3rd time she called was for a clogged sink that we did and that is what the warranty is on. Out of courtesy, i was willing to put a camera down her lines to see if anything else was there.

      2. we had that scheduled for 7/29. she kept asking for a time we would be there. I told her i can't guarentee because we only have limited camera's and emergencies take priority.  She didnt like that and kept asking for a refund and then hung up on me.  We were not able to get to her on Friday 7/29. We got rain Thursday night and were swamped with calls.

      3. She called in on Monday 8/1 asking for a refund on the clogged sink and that the camera guy never came Friday. She ended up hanging up the phone on our Office manager first. Then she called back and hung up on our office Admin.  During this time, i spoke to dispatch and a camera guy to get to her house next. Our camera technician called the customer in the afternoon of 8/1. Asking What would be a good time to come over. She yelled at the camera stating we just can't come when we want , she "Doesn't want the service", she is calling someone else and Hung up on him.  She then calls back to the office stating that she wants her money back and that our camera guy swore at her. In the 3 years of the camera guys employment, we have never received a complaint on him. She didn't like when the now 4th office person wouldn't give the money back and hung up on her.

The common theme here: We have been there multiple times and found NO issue with the smell at least related to plumbing. She refused the camera on the day we were coming. If the customer had issues and thought there was a problem, then why refuse service and hang up on him? She has been unprofessional on the phone and hung up on EVERY person she has spoken to. As a business, I am not giving everyone refunds backs if you do not let us come out an inspect it. When someone puts up a fight to have us inspect than that throws flags up that there is nothing wrong and you are just trying to get a refund for no reason.

Customer is on our DO Not service list and will remain on that status. We do not appreciate customers making false allegations especially on employees. We take allegations very serious. I can confirm that every call was unprofessional on her part and hangs up every time. I do not want to send anyone else out there, because i am sure more allegations will happen all in order to get her money back.  Our position stands as we will not refund her money and we will not service her going forward.

False allegations, why would I accuse or lie just to get something to get something. We’re you on the phone with me and the man NO!!!! So you can’t tell me what went on with the call. Once he cursed at me I told him that I didn’t need him at my house. I didn’t refuse the camera test. When I say thank you at the end of the call that means I’m fine. What do you want me to sit and sing to you on the phone. Your company is a scam PERIOD!!! Your Reid are rude and unprofessional and want people to sit and take it. You took my money and didn’t solve my problem. You took my money and blocked services. That isn’t sitting right with me. I’m aloud to be upset about a service that’s my right.

We contacted Roto router to come out and fix a plumbing leak in our garden tub before coming out we advised him what type of term we had and the exact tool That they would need to repair it. Luckily we had ordered the tool which is a 14 272 tool for a mowing faucet cartridge removal from Amazon. When the repair tech arrived he had no ideal on what he was doing I had to show him how the tool worked once he completed the job We noticed that it was still a small leak he said that should stop once we start using the water again so we paid him $325 . he made a comment that if it did not start leaking for us not to call the company about it because they would send a new plumber out and he would not get paid we found that very strange I took his word that the Fossett would stop leaking . The next day we noticed that the false did not stop leaking and contacted Rotor Rooter again and complained they stated they would send a new plumber out that had experience . Again my wife advised in what type of faucet and that we needed a experienced plumber that knew how to work on mowing faucets and they assured us they would have a plumber come out the next day this was over a week ago. Today my wife spoke with a representative revised and said they did not have a plumber in our area that was familiar with the **** faucet we have now been attempting to get a refund and cannot get anyone to return our call at the branch office we’re still stuck with a leaky faucet which is costing us more because we will have to find another plumbing company to stop the leak this was very bad business practices because we pacifically told the representative what type of faucet and that we need an experience plumber that was familiar with **** faucets in the company assured us that this person knew what he was doing and was well familiar with this type of faucet which is untrue and And very misleading to get her business

Customer attempted to install the cartridge themselves and may have damaged them in the process. Our plumber attempted to use the same cartridges on the customers request and installed them correctly. The leak was most likely caused by damage to the cartridge due to the improper installation by the customer. Customer confirmed that they have ordered new parts and asked us to come out even though the parts had not arrived yet. After speaking with them on 8/1/22 we agreed to a full refund. Refund submitted/completed 8/2/22 and will take 2-5 business days to appear back in their account.

On November 9th Roto-rooter pulled a permit for sewage line replacement as I had requested. They proceeded to do work, and we were told we were just waiting on the county inspection to fill the hole then they would be done. The following day when returning home from work, their worker was filling in the hole, and from the previous conversation, it was assumed they completed the inspection, as required. According to the county website, the inspection never happened and I still have a permit pulled against this. I have attempted to contact multiple people, and always say something will happen when I do reach them but have still not been contacted any further. They did not complete the job they were hired to do and I was lied to and misled that it was completed.

Initially called out the company to fix my pipes in my bathroom as I had no hot water coming to my upstairs bathroom. The initial technician that came out cut numerous holes in my walls (some of which were unnecessary). Once the job was finished it was discovered I had leaking from the initial repair not being tightened enough as well as from a pipe that was not hooked up at all. Had to call the company back out to do these repairs. When I asked about water damage I was treated very rudely by their water specialist. My kitchen rug was ruined when the new technician decided to place it in my kitchen sink. I had the new technician install a toilet. This resulted in waste from the toilet leaking around the flange and into my basement. I was very frustrated at this point and had to call out a new company. They fixed my toilet as well as the flange whereas the previous plumber told me to “shim” my toilet to keep it from rocking. My shower that was fixed upstairs was leaking constantly since the repair and I called the new company out to fix this as well. The original technician did not repair the shower correctly and broke handles on my shower resulting in the entire unit needed to be replace. All of this on top of repairs that need to be done to my house from the initial repairs. I have paid $2,000+ to Roto Rooter and ended up paying the same amount to a different company to fix the work that was initially done. I tried reaching out to the manager to discuss this and never heard back.
