My wife and I were visiting Cleveland for the Elton John concert on Saturday, July 30. We live about 2.5 hours away from the venue, so on July 17, my wife booked a room with Red Roof Inn on Quarry Road in Independence, Ohio, 10 miles from downtown Cleveland. We received conformation that our room was reserved.
We went to the concert and, by the time it let our and we dealt with traffic, it was after midnight when we got to Red Roof. My wife went in to check in and the clerk informed her that they had cancelled our reservation. They told her that they had texted us and emailed us around 7:45. When my wife asked why our reservation was cancelled, the clerk said "for room maintenance." She asked him where we might find a room and he said "you can check up the hill." (the Red Roof is surrounded by 3 other hotels). Since they had cancelled our reservation, I would think they might do more than just tell us to drive around the area. We did and all the hotels were full.
When she got to the car, she checked her phone and she never received any message or email from the hotel about our room cancellation. Even if they had messaged us, we were in a concert with 35,000 people that was about to begin at 8 pm.
So we had not place to stay and had to drive out to the suburbs and did not find a room until about 2:30 am. Our other option would have been to head home and drive until 5 am.
I emailed this information to the guest service person and got a standard reply that they were sorry that we had issues when we were their guests? and thanked us for bringing it to their attention. We were not their guests, so it is doubtful they even read the email. I spoke to the guest services representative as well and she was polite, but refused to answer my question about why my reservation, made 2 weeks in advance, was cancelled and why they did not do anything to make us feel like they were sorry.
Apparently, they are happy being a 2 star hotel and taking advantage.

Red Roof In Plus in ********* **. We arrived at the hotel were given a key and told it was room 303 when we got to the room it wouldn't open. We then went down this horrid sounding elevator and said the key doesn't work. He apologized and redid the key. We went back up door opened and it was someone else's room. We went back down, I told him you gave us a key to someone else's room, he looked at his list and he said i'm sorry ********* 308. We go to that room my son tried to get into the room. When I got up there he told me the door wouldn't open until he forced it a bit. We get inside the room was supposed to have queen sized beds there were full sized beds. My son is a big guy. There was no remote had to back down again. My son took a shower and went to the bathroom and the toilet wouldn't flush half the time. There was mold on the floor boards, the jacks for our phones didn't work, the phone didn't work. We had two towels. We went down to get more since we couldn't call. When we came back the door wouldn't open. We went back down, he came up tried he couldn't get it open. He called a repairman that took and hour to get there which we sat in their little lobby for almost an hour. While we sat there I observed a customer who was cleaning rooms which he cleaned 7, then took his key and went up. A poor guy who made reservations was turned away because they had no clean rooms. The repairman has the person at the desk crawl through our air conditioner to get us in, water all over the floor. The repairman can't find a new door lock/handle uses the one off his storeroom. Now we are worried can someone else break into our room. The air conditioner was not working well either. After told whole story to desk person in AM she saw no one had refunded us for next night or deposit of $50. Then said she could refund all but $64 since we stayed there. I then talked to manager by email and she refused to do anymore. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

I walked in to book a reservation at the Red Roof Inn on Saturday July 16th 2022 for 1 night in ******* ******* ***************************************. I needed 2 rooms 1 for myself and one for my elderly parents age 92 and 75. I checked into my room and the the 1st thing I did it was open the refrigerator and noticed that it was not cold. I moved the dorm sized refrigerator to check the plug and there were 2 roaches behind the fridge. I went to the front desk and he offered to move me however if you know anything about roaches, if you see one in the daylight there are thousands that you don't see. I left but my disabled dad was too tired and unable to leave. When I came back the next morning to retrieve them I stopped by the front desk to check out and explained my experience from the day before all she said was other guest bring roaches to the hotel. This is completely unacceptable to me I was mortified that I had to leave my parents there and completely fearful that roaches crawled into their bags and would be traveling in the car with us. Until this issue is resolved the hotel should be shut down so that people can actually have a good night rest. My dad sleep in the clothes he arrived in on top of the covers. This is not right I should not have had to pay for this
