Statewide tax recovery is charging me for taxes that my wages are already being garnished for from keystone tax company. I am not paying the same tax twice

      Business Response

      Date: 12/29/2023

Currently, we are showing no balances in our system for taxes. No contact attempts have been made in 2023. The balance we had was exonerated back in 2022. We have no open tax account at this time.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 01/08/2024

They say in their letter that they have not tried to contact me in 2023. That is a blatant lie, I have letters and phone calls from them for the whole year. I paid them over $100 before I put this complaint in, so if it wasn't them, where is my money?

      Business Response

      Date: 01/10/2024

The only account we have ever had in our system for *** ****** is for an old tax that was closed out around August of 2022. Since that time, Statewide Tax Recovery has made no collection efforts on the account. If you would like more information, please give our office a call at ###-###-####.

Got thing in mail saying I owe for taxes. Called local tax lady and she saodnshe didnt know anything about it. I believe its a scam but tried calling Statewide to find more information out but no answer. I emailed and got an email and call from **** (********************) on dec. 15 which she said she will message her boss to send me the information I needed to prove it isn't a scam. That he would send it to me by end of the day. Friday came and gone and nothing. So message her again Monday Dec. 18. and she claimed boss had emergency meeting and the person who usually takes care of his emails when he's not around is off. Finally Tuesday dec 19 her bosses assistant (******************* *****************) emailed me but not what I requested. Still didn't have proof. So I messaged ***** that I needed more then just her messaging me telling me what I already know and that's not proof. Wednesday dec. 20 **** called me. I finally had enough of the run around from this company so after losing my temper she threatened to just garnish my wages and still not provide proof that this isn't a scam. She claimed she'll sent the proof today (which I should have gotten days ago). But as of right now I still have no proof this company isn't a scam. They need to provide more information in the letters they send to show they aren't a scam company (if they actually aren't)

I filed a dispute for both myself and my husband per the instructions on the letter. I am not disputing the amount owed, just the 25.00 (each) when total owed is only 11.00. I was unaware at the time our tax office did not send these bills or I would have paid them, I was told it is my responsibility to know they were not sent. That's a first I heard of that. I filed 2 disputes with them via there instructions and was assigned 2 case #'s and I never received a reply. Like I said, I will pay what we owe but and additional 50.00 for my husband and myself is a little out of line when we had no idea we had to be responsible for making sure the tax collector mails what she should.

It is the responsibility of the residents within ******* County to pay for their county per capita taxes each year. If an issue is had with receiving those original taxes, they should be handled with the taxing authority. However, once the tax hasn't been paid by 12/31 of the taxing year, it becomes delinquent and has a delinquency fee added to it for the collection of the account. We cannot remove the fees at this time. For more information or to make a payment please contact our office at ###-###-#### or send us an email at [email protected]

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me but not by choice.  People should be notified of tax policies and at least be given the opportunity to make it right rather than unexpected fees resulting in a much higher payment that is unacceptable in this case but I guess there is no way for forgiveness since I never disputed I was willing to pay just the amount due.  Truly sad but that’s what the world had come to.

I’m 2018 I received a demand letter from Statewide Tax Recovery. They have on file that I owe taxes for the 2016 and 2017 tax year and do not have record of any of the documents I had submitted showing that I was a full time student with no income. I emailed the ********** Treasurer who confirmed I did not owe any taxes for this time period, I had paid the only portion I owed form when I started working mid year. I’m September of 2022, Statewide began calling me again. I sent them my transcripts again and they said the calls should stop. Now, Statewide Calle some yesterday. They emailed me saying that my reason was not accepted and I still owed the taxes, even though the Treasurer said I do not.

      Business Response

      Date: 10/19/2023

Your situation has been brought to my attention to resolve. I contacted ********** City and spoke to the tax office. They are able to review your transcripts for exoneration of all of the occupational assessment taxes. However, they are not able to do that for the per capita taxes and notified us to work with you to secure payment for those accounts. I have pushed your transcripts through to our Dispute & Exoneration Supervisor for immediate review and attention. As soon as they are reviewed and approved for exoneration, I'll have them removed. At that point, you would need to contact our office to set up payment for the per capita taxes. Should you have any questions regarding this process, you can contact our office by email at [email protected] or by phone at ###-###-####. Thank you.

I have been receiving these letters about delinquent taxes from this agency from 2019 until present . I have received these 2 just recently since July. I have called them and emailed them and sent the requested documents to prove my address changed. I moved from Williams valley school district in 5/2018. I lived in Shamokin pa from 7/18 to 5/2019. Since 5/2019 I have lived at my current address in Aaronsburg. Despite sending many documents driver’s license change of address, election registration change from the county, W-2. And copy of tax forms to prove my residency they continue to send me these letters and do not respond to my disputes or resolve the issue. The one for Shamokin my name is spelled wrong. When I reported this to them the man hung up on me. I have attempted to contact the tax collector offices as well to update my contact information with them as well with no success.

      Business Response

All of the accounts you disputed for 2018 and 2019 for Williams Valley have already been closed. Your disputes for Shamokin are currently being processed by our exoneration team and should be updated shortly. The remaining accounts we have open are for 2020. To exonerate those accounts, you will need to provide specific documentation showing non-residency for that year. You can do that by sending it to [email protected]. Our team members can assist you in getting what you need, so we can get these accounts exonerated for you. If you have any questions, you can contact us by phone at ************** and ask for ****. They will transfer you to me, and I would be happy to assist you and answer any questions.

So back in July of this year, I get a random call from a *** number, I live in western PA and no one in eastern pa has my number, they called claiming I owe $36 dollars to ****** **** School District, a district I had lived in from 2017 to 2021, and the only time I owed taxes for them was 2019. I told her that I didn't work enough that year to pay school district taxes, because I was pregnant and having complications. Plus, I am a dependent to my mom and she never got anything regarding any amount I owed for ****** **** in 2021. For 2021 I owed taxes to ******* School District NOT ****** ****, and I even CALLED ****** **** to make sure in 2022 that I didnt owe anything. Now im not sure why a western central pa school would go to a debt collector in Allentown PA on the other side of the state, and I told her to remove me from the system because its clear that I didnt owe anything. She told me to send in a proof of residency change and I sent in a Picture of a piece of mail I received since living there. That lady also claimed that I had been sent mail for months prior to her calling me in July, and I told her I have never received anything from this company until that day. I never received anything from them again UNTIL today when a very rude and disrespectful person called me claiming I now owed hundreds of dollars to the ****** **** school district. He even told me that my address that he asked me to prove im me at the beginning of the call was wrong, and that I still lived in Martinsburg NOT Altoona. I told him i had already dealt with someone regarding this, and plus if i truly owed something, I wouldve been forwarded the mail back in July of 2021 when I moved and he got really rude and said "thats not how this works" um sir, I am a criminal justice major, and we have looked at tax and civil cases before. That is EXACTLY how that works. Something that has my old address would have been forwarded to my new. I still have never received mail from y'all regarding it

      Business Response

      Date: 09/21/2023

After pulling the account information, I'm showing that we have an outstanding balance for ****** **** School District in the amount of $41.50. This is the amount that the account was for from the beginning and has not changed since. This is for the local school district per capita tax. This tax is for residing within the school district during the listed tax year, which is 2021. According to ****** **** S/D's records, this balance is still owed. To dispute the validity of this balance, you would need to provide documentation showing that you did not reside within the school district during 2021. That documentation can be emailed to us directly at [email protected]. Once we receive it, we will process it and work with the school district to exonerate the account. We did not receive any proof documentation after your previous dispute. If you would like further assistance or have any additional questions, you can contact me directly at *********@***********. Thank you.

       Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

I did send in proof. And I know I did because the woman even responded back to me saying thank you. I never received anything from y’all PRIOR to July of 2023. And if I owed something from Spring Cove they would’ve sent something to me by mail first before sending it to y’all. I’ve read other complaints and I have read thousands of reviews. I know y’all are a scam company. There are tax collection agency’s around here that spring cove would’ve used. But to stop you guys from harassing me, when I get the money, because I do not have a job like y’all claim I do, I will send the CASH to your address. And if y’all do not accept that that isn’t my fault. Twice I have received disrespectful, rude calls from two employees who couldn’t even tell me the proper amount I owed. One even told me I lied about my address I currently live at. Y’all messed with the wrong one because I do know the legal system as I study it in school. That’s right I’m a full time college student y’all claim owes money when I didn’t even have a job. Y’all need to do a better job at scamming by actually doing research.

Statewide Tax Recovery, Inc (STR) has sent me written communications and has repeatedly called me, to the point of harassment, trying to collect back school taxes, in the amount of $415.99, they say I owe the: ********* Area School District in Pennsylvania, from the year 2022. Account Number: *********** DB #: ******* I have never lived in Pennsylvania, ever. It seems however, I may have the same name as someone who owes the school district delinquent taxes and STR is trying to get me to pay them. I’m a 71 year old, retired Ohio state worker, veteran and a lifelong resident of ****** County, Ohio. I currently work for ****** County, Ohio and have for the past 21 years. STR does not except my explanation and continues to call and tries to set up payment from me. It’s apparent that staff at STR has not done the necessary research to find the right person. STR want me to verify my information by sending them past copies of my Federal Income Tax forms, utility bills, Driver’s License, etc., to prove my claim of living in Ohio during the timeframe in question. I haven’t, because I’m concerned the information they request, in the wrong hands, could be used in identity theft. I only want to not hear from STR again, remove me from their list of suspects and stop the harassing calls and letters. Thank you for any assistance you may provide.

I receive full VA benefits for a combination of mental and phsyical problems. I had to leave work in 2020. Since State Wide LLC has been tasked to collect an occupation tax for 2023. I provided my case and statement to them by email several time and in a few months they call back starting over. They don't reply to their emails or acknowledge receipts. I have had to send them tax and private full social security reports to which they still do not respond. To make the matter worse a simple call to my tax office revealed to me how to fix the problem but told me it might be difficult to stop Statewide LLC. Statewide never acted in a courteous and professional way to fix what was a simple paperwork mistake.Instead they harassed myself, a schizophrenic with dead end calls where they only wanted money no real resolution. If Statewide conduct more honest diligent work this complaint would not be necessary.I am currently working on processing the paperwork with my local administration and would like to know that Statewide is willing and able to remove me from their list and close the loop on the situation which they never have. They always ask for documentation but never have given me a follow up or closure in any form of communication let alone simple recommendations to resolve the situation such as contacting my tax representative.
