I received a letter from Statewide Tax Recovery, LLC stating that i owed $36 for per capital tax for living in Pennsylvania. I told them that I have not lived in Pennsylvania for 30 years and they stated that I would need to send them proof - being my driver's license or my tax returns - something indicating I did not have residency in Penn last year. I never received a bill for taxes of any kind yet now I receive a collection notice?? I do not believe this company should be allowed to scam money out of people and still be allowed to remain in business. I will be contacting the Pennsylvania Dept of Revenue to report this same matter.

      Good morning,

I have reviewed the information we have in the system for ********************. She was reported to our office by ********** School District as being delinquent on 2021 local per capita taxes. A dunning notice was sent out on 1/26/22, as per CFPB guidelines. Two additional notices have been sent out since then. On 11/28/22 at 1:15 PM, ** ******** contacted our office and spoke with one of our agents. Our agent informed her that she would need to provide documentation proving non-residency in the reported tax jurisdiction for 2021. These particular situations happen quite frequently where tax collectors get people on the tax roll incorrectly. When that happens, our job is to work with the consumer to resolve the dispute. Per our contracts with the taxing bodies, we are to provided documented proof on behalf of the consumer, that clearly shows they are not responsible for the tax.

I know that another concern expressed by *** ******** was that she saw a Sunbury number and a Baltimore address. The original office location for the company was Sunbury, so the local numbers are Sunbury numbers. The headquarters of the company were moved to Allentown. The Baltimore address is to our bank's lock box for all payment remittance. If it would make *** ******** more comfortable, she can contact ********** School District regarding the account, and they will refer her back to us to get the situation resolved.

We are not trying to scam *** ********. We are not trying to take her money. If she legitimately doesn't owe this tax, we want to help get it removed from our system and closed out of the books for ********** School District. She can do this by sending proof of non-residency to our email address at [email protected]. If she has any questions about this process or the account, I would be happy to assist her personally over the phone. Simply call (**** ******** and ask for Gary.

      Thanks,

      Gary D******* III

I received a letter in the mail regarding a debt that I apparently owe however I am not aware of any outstanding balances or unpaid debts. The letter is quite vague and does not specify WHAT the debt is, TO WHOM it is owed to, or WHEN it was from! How can a company operate like this and provide no details? I was only offered a repayment options of mailing in a check or paying online- again, for something I am completely unaware of- in the amount of $221.63! In the communication, there was no additional information such as an account#, invoice#, or any other identifying information other than my name & address. I certainly do not believe I owe any outstanding debts and I would have appreciated being given ANY information about the debt they are claiming I owe, but clearly this company is shady- they cannot even provide the basic facts; they just want to take your money.

      Good afternoon,

I have looked into the situation for this consumer. It appears that several notices had been sent to that address previously. I am having a summary-type of notice sent out today that will better break down the accounts in our system. A brief explanation of it here is that both accounts are for ********* Area School District. They have reported delinquent per capita and occupational taxes for 2016. If the consumer has any specific questions, they are welcome to give our office a call at ************** or they can check their balance and account information online at www.pay-str.com.

      Thanks,

      Gary D*********** III

      Good afternoon,

I can confirm that our system does indicate that ***********City  and ****** County did turn over information to our office that these amounts are owed. However, I found another account for someone with a very similar name. I believe that the taxing jurisdictions sent over information in error, which was loaded into our system. I'm going to have our Client Coordinator reach out to the taxing jurisdictions to verify the mistake and mark these accounts for transfer to the proper party. Until then, I will mark the accounts with a Cease Communications code to prevent any notices or phone calls for the duration of the dispute process.

We are not a scam. We are a legitimate third party collections agency that partners with taxing jurisdictions to assist in the collection of outstanding local tax debt. There are occasions where those taxing authorities get information wrong. This is usually due to outdated information systems and errors tend to get lost amongst the thousands of entries. I can assure you that nothing has been reported to credit on these accounts. We don't do that for outstanding taxes. Additionally, I'm sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

If you accidently receive any additional communication from us, you can disregard. If you have any questions regarding the information I've presented above, feel free to reach out to my direct line at **************. I'm the Collections Manager and would be happy to explain anything further.

      Thanks,

      Gary D************
