My employer switched to Cigna this year, worst insurance company ever. Their business plan must be deny, deny, ask questions if insured persists and then issue as many more vague denials needed until they give up or die.

Truly horrendous company. Many of the ways in which they're operating are illegal. They have taken longer than is legally permitted to pay me back for out of network claims that I submitted in a timely fashion. I've had to leave thousands of dollars on a credit card waiting for reimbursements. I've had to call for hours and months to get paid back (even though these are always for routine bills that they're not disputing and have paid out for years). Also very interesting that I never have any issue with in network providers. However, my in network medications are also a hassle. They have required prior authorizations from my doctor like 4 times this year (when it's the same dosage and mg). They try to avoid paying for everything and it creates a massive hassle and financial burden on the patient, not to mention stress and suffering and time cost. But the biggest problem is that they keep saying they'll pay and then don't. It's a massive amount of work for the consumer and super unethical. Highly recommend avoiding them.

Horrible insurance company for the amount you pay to have them, can't use it, always an issue, they ALWAYS try to find a reason not to pay any medical needs, even for life sustaining medications or procedures. Absolutely ridiculous.

I have a Single Case Agreement (SCA) with Cigna for a specific doctor. This is an Agreement stating they will process my out of network provider as in-Network.
They never process these claims correctly. One or two mistakes I can understand. But every single appointment they don't process correctly and I have to ask them to fix the error and send my doctor the refund. EVERY TIME. I am keeping an eye on the Cigna app biweekly to stay on top of them. This is not right. I believe Cigna intentionally misprocesses these claims or doesn't train the employees properly. I'm sure they obtain a lot of money from people who don't check up on them every week.
Can the BBB do anything? I have all my emails, SCA, and claims saved. The most I've gotten from Cigna is repeated empty apologies and the BS phrase "we'll escalate the matter."

CIGNA. Enrollment period November 2019 Pandemic I was new to the company at the time which was 2020 and I only enrolled for approximately 6-7month because my old job insurance ended. . I was defaulted into a High Deductible Plan which automatically charged me for Tobacco surcharges every pay period. And I’m not a tobacco user. When enrollment period came around for the second time. I was informed if I’m okay with my current plan I don’t of to change anything not knowing that I of to login to acknowledge the current policy. I found out late January, early February that I was defaulted and that when I started the appeal process and I lost both first and second appeal because my case has non of the life changing requirement they listed. i called everyone to ask for help and i was denied or each person has something else to say. this occurred January 2020 pandemic. they charged me $1800 for the year.

Absolutely atrocious customer service. Extremely long hold times to speak with people who are not competent and majority don’t speak English. Have yet to have an issue resolved. They amount of hours I have spent (for free) while we pay them so much, is disgusting. Would absolutely never recommend or use if we had a choice in employer benefits.

Customer service is a joke!!! This company doesn't care about their clients at all.
On June 23, 2022, I used the website for MyCigna to pay my bill online. After clicking to send my payment, the website crashed. I went to reload it, and discovered they had taken my payment twice. I immediately called customer service, and they told me their system was experiencing technical difficulties and to call back the next day, and they would issue a refund. I tried calling back for 4 days in a row, never able to get a human on the phone. So I called my bank to initiate a dispute. After a few more days, I decided to try Cigna again. I got a person on the phone, who told me that I had to wait 10 days AFTER the double payment to be able to process a refund. So they can take money that I don't owe instantly, but they need 10 days to give back money that isn't their's. The guy told me to call back in another couple days, and they could then take care if it. When I called back, two days later, they then told me that a new billing cycle has been generated and that my extra payment has now been applied to my account. I did NOT want that to happen. I needed that money for groceries. My next bill isn't due until the end of July, so I was NOT ready to pay it yet. Their website caused the error, and their poor customer service, and bad business practices, has caused me financial strain. But since I have to have health insurance, I can't just stop doing business with them. Through no fault of my own, I'm now having to deal with the stress that THEIR mistake caused. Bad bad bad bad bad bad business.

They don’t care about your health, they only care about their bottom line. They arbitrarily change prescription dosing without the doctor’s approval to save money and apparently can get away with it. I guess in the future I will go to Cigna instead of my doctor for my healthcare needs since they are calling the shots.
