On 4/24/25, I parked in a parking lot across the street from ****** in fish town. This parking lot is not labeled as private property, nor are there any signs that state permit parking only. I parked in an un numbered spot. Upon leaving the restaurant, I found George Smith Towing in front of my vehicle. The company then hooked my car to the truck and stated I was parked illegally. When I informed them that there are no signs, they stated that they had a contract with the lot that states no one can park in the lot after 8:30p. Once again, this is not posted anywhere. The company then stated it would be a $200 fee to drop the vehicle, which is higher than the citys tow fee of $175. They stated that they only accepted cash, Zelle, or ***** to their private account of ***** Web. I am seeking a full refund of this tow fee as it was price gauging and predatory due to lack of signage indicating that parking required a permit.

Our car was towed from an apartment complex April 4, 2025. When we went to pick it up, we were told there was a flat tire and they business next door would be able to fix this. The car did not have a flat tire before they towed the car. If you look this company up online, they have a BBB rating of "F" and a one star rating. Several other people have complained about this tire scam. I'm not sure how much to ask back. The towing cost $200 and we had to fix the tire (we did not go to the place next door). I think the $200 towing fee would be appropriate. I also think BBB should look into this company. Several apartment complexes in the area use this towing company and I'm not sure why.

Company Name: George Smith Towing Company Address: [Address of George Smith Towing]Location of Incident: *********************************************** Nature of Complaint:I am filing a formal complaint against George Smith Towing for predatory towing, excessive fees, and improper payment handling. On February 23, I parked at the ** Park lot at ******************** and paid the full-day $25 fee via ParkMobile (receipt attached). When I returned at 2 PM, my car had been towed. The lot attendant confirmed my payment but could do nothing since the car was already ******** the tow yard, I was told I owed $300+, despite posted signs stating a $175 towing fee. The staff gave conflicting explanations, stating their fee was $200 plus an additional $100 to the lot. They were dismissive, hostile, and unwilling to clarify the charges.Additionally, I was asked to provide my debit card PIN while they entered my card behind a glass enclosure, which felt highly inappropriate and a potential security risk. This experience felt unfair and possibly illegal. I am requesting the BBB investigate George Smith Towing for:Unjustified Towing My vehicle was removed despite valid payment.Excessive and Unclear Fees Charges exceeded the posted towing fee without explanation.Predatory Behavior Multiple customers were retrieving towed cars at the same time.Improper Payment Handling Requesting my PIN raised serious security concerns.I seek a formal review and resolution of these issues. Please advise on next steps.Sincerely,***** *******

On Feb. 21, 2025, George Smith Towing lifted my car and charged me $200 on the spot to have it lifted back down. There are three other witnesses who can attest that they lifted my car only after I ran up and told them that the car was my property and that I was attempting to leave. The towing area is not marked under the nearby ******************************* parking only, but the tower claimed that is what he was doing the towing for, despite the parking not being marked accordingly. The $200 charge was also not explained or detailed, as the fees listed do not equate to $200. We also heard from several other nearby employees of an Arab market, all people of color, who said the towing service targets their store and customers due to racial profiling.

My car got towed in the middle of the night and when I went to go pick it up, I noticed that there was damage to my car. My boyfriend and I were there and he had noticed that my back, right tire was flat. He asked the worker nicely if he knew anything about it and the worker was being rude and told us that we can go to the tire shop across the street. He refused to answer any of our questions, he called my boyfriend a disrespectful name. I asked if I could talk to anyone else there and these were his words, Well its Sunday, no one is working except me, and we close at 4, so no. He then slammed the gates on us and continued to use profanity towards us from behind the gate.

George Smith towing attempted to tow my car from a parking lot at the corner of ************************, even though I had paid for parking and have a receipt. The reason the tow truck driver gave me was that I hadn't placed by receipt in the front windshield of my car. Not only is this a completely unreasonable penalty, but the instructions to do this were written in fine print on a sign that wasn't directly visible. The instructions were also not printed anywhere on the ticket, nor displayed around the machine where you pay for parking. I ended up having to pay the driver $200 in cash to release my vehicle, on top of the $10 I'd paid for parking, in what felt like an extremely ad hoc and shady transaction. 80% of the cars in this lot had made the same mistake as I'd made, and once the driver released my car, he simply moved onto the other cars, holding them hostage for making a completely understandable mistake and demanding money to give the car back. In short, I feel scammed and extorted, and this business must be forced to stop these unethical practices.

I parked in front of my apartment complex moving things into my car and came back with boxes to put in the car to find my car gone. Called around trying to locate my car cause I was moving that weekend only to find out they towed my car stating I was parked in a fire lane. The signing is illegible and they have no markings on the street that says it's a fire lane. I have a permit in my car to park in the lot. An **** ride and $205 later I got my car back.

I was accidentally parked in a private lot for about three minutes . The towing company who was sitting in the lot saw me get out of my car-didn't tell me I was parked illegally. Hooked the tow truck up to my car, my car was never moved when I came out of the store. The ***************** told me I can only pay $200 in cash. After I paid 200 cash, they gave me a 26 dollar PPA ticket.
