10/31/2023, appointment to get a permanent crown. I paid the full price (1054.00) and was going to submit it to my insurance provider myself because Aspen Dental has been over charging me for my visits. My insurance covers 80%, which I told them on numerous occasions, but they still wanted 50% upfront. They then went ahead and submitted a claim for the $1054 to my insurance company even though I paid the amount in full at the time of my visit. I called my insurance provider and they had already sent Aspen Dental a check for the 80% ($843.20) on 11-21-2023 and said, and I quote “They beat you to the punch”. I am now out 843.20, plus the money that I have been over paying for other visits. This is a shady business practice to say the least. They also refused to give me any kind of written receipt for work done or specific prices when asked for them on several occasions. I called aspen dental to try and resolve this issue. First they denied getting the check, then they changed their story and said the checks don't come to their location. I demanded a number to the “location” of where the checks get sent to and that number was of no help. I also am due $267.00 from previous over payments.Business Response

Recently a patient with Aspen Dental, located in Troy, OH, I applied for a credit of 4,000 to undergo a series of dental procedures: a root canal, dental cleaning, and bonding repairs. However, I realized that the price range was out of reach due to my current financial situations. I contacted Aspen Dental if it was possible to refund the credit of 4,000, and I am displeased that the company has been difficult to refund the credit to the bank it was issued from.
As another option, I contacted the bank the credit was issued from, and the bank told me that it could be a few months for the refund process, but the bank was in agreement for the refund. Since then, I tried numerous times to contact Aspen Dental, and when I asked to speak with the manager, I was told that she was not available. I tried contacting Aspen again today on 10/12/23, but no one was available. This is coming off with the impression that Aspen is ignoring my calls and has no intention to refund the money. If it's within the power of the BBB, please help me resolve this issue. Thank you.Business Response

I went to aspen dental for x-rays in June of this year, and they told me I needed a deep cleaning, and that I had to pay that day for it. I informed them I had dental insurance and gave them my card. They then had me sign up for a card to help pay called Fortiva. It charges 30% interest, which I didn’t think would be a big deal because my dental insurance would cover most if not all of the cost once the claim was processed. Now 4 months later a claim still has not been processed. Two months after the cleaning I called my insurance company to try to find out what the hold up was and they had no knowledge of my dental work at all because no claim had ever been submitted, and still now 2 months later and many times of contacting aspen dental by myself and my insurance company they still are giving us the run around.Business Response

I spoke with my insurance company last week, and yes a check was sent to aspen the prior week, noting that only 400 dollars was paid out to me for a service I was told would be covered by my insurance, I have yet to receive an eob but I would like an answer as to why any work was done that was not covered by my insurance and or ran by me as to my willingness to pay out of pocket, this seems like I was manipulated for your profit.

my complaint on the marion IL location. I spoke with you a few times about your Marion IL location and how I had to go in 17 different times to that location all for the SAME exact tooth and crown that would fall off literally 30 minutes after they would put it on. This went on for 4 months, over a 4 month period that location made 5 separate crowns, and NONE of them would stay on the tooth. At one point it fell off so many times they even made me go 1 month with no temporary or permenamt crown at all. This is all unheard of and I am not the only patient that was going through this, while I was there several times in the waiting room many patients would complain about there crowns falling off. It is mind blowing how horrible of work this location did .
Well today, I need to file a huge complaint after my last visit 9 months ago at the marion IL location the Docter permanently cemented the crown on after it failing 17 times prior and she promised me this one would stay on and it would fit good. Well that was a lie, i stopped in a different aspen dental location becuase every single food item I eat is getting stuck under that crown, and they took a ct scan and looked at it and told me the crown only covers half the tooth!! They were shocked your office in marion would cement this on my tooth and put a crown like this on me . And because it only has covered only HALF My tooth this entire 9 months now the tooth under it is INFECTED and needs a root cancel because the tooth has not been properly sealed or covered these past 9 months because your negligent staff in marion put on a crown that does not even fit my tooth. The dentist at this new aspen dental told he I still NEED A NEW CROWN ON THIS TOOTH and he was shocked when I told him your office in marion il had me go in 17 times for this same crown and it still does not fit. Now I need a root canal to clear out the infection from the tooth not being covered for 9 months now!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am in shock of this gross negligence by your team in Marion IL. They wasted 4 months of my time and 17 appointments later to a STILL NOT HAVE A CROWN THAT FITS AND NEEDS REPLACED. and now a infected tooth on top of it. I now live in Florida and the aspen dental here could not believe looking at the CT scan that your dentist would even put this crown on my tooth. It does not even cover the back of my tooth!!!!!
I am requesting aspen dental pay for this root canal on my tooth that is infected as a result of the tooth not being covered for these past 9 months. You also need to investigate the high number of patients like me whos crowns are falling out all within days of them being put on.
The Doctor I was dealing with there was the Chinese Dr, and she should of never put this crown on my tooth knowing it was not the right size and did not cover the full tooth. I think she was just tired of 17 appointments and me going there for there negligent work that she just put this on and lied to me that it fit to get rid of me. I asked her when I was there to take a xray of the tooth so I could see the new crown on it and she refused, well now I know why , because the crown only covers half the tooth!Business Response

In March 2023 dentist said I needed tooth pulled and implant was suggested. Implant would take 6 months. In July 2023 I had implants measured twice. I had gone to dentist August 2 and had dental prep done and paid 3000 dollars with a balance of around 300 dollars. Appointment was made on August 30 to have implant placed, but Appointment was canceled, new appointment was Sept 12 and was cancelled again because it was dentist day off...again not my doing. Now I have appointment for September 22. I would like to know if this is a valid date to get my implant done...it's been 6 months.Business Response

July 27th I reach out to United Concordia to seek a provider in my region that can get me in, in regard to a crack in an upper tooth. I drive from Latrobe to Uniontown because the other Aspen dentals closer we’re booked, the other providers were further out on an appointment. I get pushed through an assembly line style check out with X-rays and what not. Get to the exam room. Speak with a dental hygienist. Eventually the doctor comes in and says yeah we need to do 3 crowns, a antibiotic treatment the hygienist will do, and the root canal but otherwise your teeth are looking fairly healthy. They were great. No complaints. They explained the X-rays. She advises me to see a lady about scheduling. I sit down at a small office and speak to a lady that vaguely explains what’s covered and what’s not. She explains that there is around 6,000.00 dollars worth of work I need and they have a financing option that they determine pre-qualification on the stop and offer a line of credit for the work if I so choose to have the work done. So I said yeah absolutely, you guys have been good and I need the work so I’m going to consider it. I’m pre-qualified for more than the amount. She explains it will show a 0 dollar balance until you decide what services on the day of your next appointment. So we set the appointment for the 15th of August. My wife and i talk about possibly using cash in savings, vs credit. I got a welcome letter from Comenity Capital showing my credit limit. We cancel the appointment 3 times, get a call almost every day from the scheduler asking if I’m coming. My credit card has better financing than Comenity. So I said no I won’t be coming in fact I’m going to shop around. August 17th I receive an alert my credit score tanked and Aspen ran 3,032.00 against my balance. They never touched my teeth. I was not there. Insurance confirmed they were billed for the appt and I owe 0. Feels like 3rd quarter fraud to me. I received ONLY paperwork for the pre-finance…?Business Response

On May 2 2023 I went to Aspen Dental in Olean NY to have a broken tooth removed. The dentist removed the wrong tooth. I talked to the office manager & requested a refund of my money that I had already paid for, since I was going to have to find someone else to do it. I called 2 weeks later & stated I still had not recieved a refund. One month later I called again to inform them I still had not recieved a refund. Six weeks later I called the customer service number & told them what had happened. All of these times they said they were working on it. It is now August of 2023 & I still have not recieved a refund. I would like my money refunded. I will not go back there or refer anyone to themBusiness Response

I saw aspen dental in belle vernon, pa on 6/16/23 for a toothache and on 6/19/23 for extraction of that tooth. At that time they recommended a partial plate after the extraction healed and submitted a pre-approval of the charges for the partial plate to fortiva retail credit. The credit was approved and aspen submitted a charge of nearly $800 that day. My follow-up appointment was scheduled for 8/3/23.
I learned in mid july that i am moving out of the area and cancelled my follow-up appointment and requested a reversal of the charges. The dental claim for the x-rays and extraction were paid in full by my insurance company on 7/20/23 with nothing owed by me.
As of 8/9/23, the reversal of charges to fortiva still has not been issued and interest continues to accrue. I called the aspen corporation billing office and they indicated they dont need to reverse the charges because i can have the services performed at a later time. I again requested the refund as none of the sevices charged had been performed nor did i anticipate incurring them because i am moving out of state. She indicated that senior manager said the claims are still pendingand it could take months before a refund is issued. I have confirmed all claims for services have been paid in full via electronic payment by my insurance company. It is unethical to submit charges for unrendered services. I understand a partial charge pending the performed service was charged and it should be refunded when i canceled my appointment and request the reversal in mid july. I am seeking the charges to be reversed and payment of any associated interest charges, late fees, etc on my fortiva account. I am also requesting repair of any credit impact.Business Response
