This rating is too high. Seriously. The paid program is a scam. The free program is misleading.I utilized the "free" program for 20 months, the biggest issue being losing audio periodically. Then, they added a 5 heart (mistakes) a day limit, and they go to great lengths to ensure that you'll fail via a variety of means: similar pronunciations (when their sound is working), using a variation of the word that you've never seen, grammar, etc.As a result, in May 2023 I subscribed. Since then, the problems have sharply escalated. In 5 months, my Spanish program has changed 4 times, the last one so that I can no longer see the end of it. Multiple times in a session, every day, each of these things happens + more: the program freezes, the sound cuts out, the sound arrives several seconds later or prematurely, multiple sound tracks play, the screen stops drawing. I've tried wi-fi, putting my node right next to the computer and plugging it in directly, and different browsers, nothing improves matters except, most of the time, cleaning cache every few lessons did until recently, now it's sometimes. Re-booting is also sometimes. Refreshing a second tab also helps more than not. At first, I submitted 1 bug at a time, now I send them in groups of 5, multiple groups a day. I've asked for my money back multiple times. I never get a response to anything. I do think they read them, as sometimes after a miserable time + submitting errors, things improve for a bit. I also believe they deliberately changed my last course so that I can no longer see how much further I have to go, as I could prior to that and mistakenly mentioned that + my accelerated plan to finish by the end of my subscription. The additional technical difficulties seem to be their way of ensuring that I renew, which I won't.My friend got their 5 heart limit after I, and they're now struggling with the free Spanish course, which for them has included audio practice-mine doesn't; now they're giving up.

They do not fix bugs. I have submitted the same bug report four times by now and they do not do anything. All their system does is sending an automated e-mail to acknowledge receitpt. The web verson of their Spanish Unit 169 stalls at one point and the course cannot continue.

The free trail is a scam. I started the free 14 day trail on May 31. I was charged a yearly subscription on June 10. On the Apple Store my trial was backdated to May 27! Duolingo shaved 4 days off of my trial. I never received a notification that the trial would end.

Hello,We're sorry for the discrepancy between Apple's records of your free trial and the actual dates of the trial. We confirmed that you began your free trial on May 27. A notification was sent from ** on June 9 reminding you that your trial will renew. In the case that you do not have notifications enabled, you wouldn't have received that reminder.

In preparation to move to South America, I began using Duolingo along with other learning tools to expedite my Spanish learning. I happily upgraded to an annual SuperDuolingo plan in 2021 and renewed that in November of 2022. In November of 2022 I noticed "bots" being used in an attempt to force non-paying members to upgrade in the leagues section. It is not competition when Duolingo has the leagues section rigged. I am competitive and spent hours trying to beat something that was unbeatable. This same complaint is echoed all over the internet by other users. I addressed this to customer service and instead of removing the "bot", my money for Super was refunded and my account was immediately cancelled by customer service, flushing a 500+ day streak down the toilet. Seriously? They will stand behind their SCAM instead of taking in legitimate revenue from a long time user? Duolingo is a publicly traded company. Something tells me that investors are not aware of this and wonder if any of this would be considered criminal. My next email is going to be to the SEC. Fortunately there are other learning apps and audiobooks that work better. Some are even free.

I have used this language learning program since February 2021. It worked well enough for much of the time. In December of 2021 I upgraded my subscription to their "SuperDuolingo" level. It all worked fine until shortly after my subscription auto-renewed in December 2022. Afterward there was a substantial change in how the program interacted with me. Functions that had no negative effect on my progress in the past suddenly became inhibitors. For example, in their timed drills, previously, if I ran out of time before completing the exercise I could "swipe" to remove the notification and continue to finish the exercise. Since shortly after the renewal, I am unable to do that. What si worse (to me) is the total lack of responsiveness to my problem reports. It is inconceivable to me that they provide no way to interact with their staff. NONE. Even in trying to use the instructions found on the web, the resulting steps don't apply. I've had it with them. I'd give them zero stars if it didn't make it appear that I neglected to rate them. Not a horrible program, but a HORRIBLE company.
