I fell behind on my payments due to some unfortunate life events and received an offer to settle my debt at 50% via email. I contacted Advance America to accept the offer. I asked if I could accept, but split the amount into two payments and they said yes. I made my first payment over the phone at the time I accepted the offer on 3/14/23 and the lady scheduled an automatic payment for the remaining amount for 03/24/23. Although she could not provide documentation stating we made an agreement and settled at 50% of the balance, she assured me my account will show settled once my second payment is received on the 24th. I called back a little while after on the same day and spoke to a different representative to ensure their end reflects the agreement we made and she reassured me that it did. I logged into my Advance America account on 3/24 and instead of my account status saying "settled", it said "sold". They sold my account to a debt collector sometime between 3/14 and 3/24 (within 10 days of when we made the agreement). Now I'm told there's nothing they can do on their end to resolve this, they're "sorry", there's no such thing as splitting the payments for settlement offers (so I was misinformed by their representatives) and I'll have go through the debt collector this point on. I feel this was a bait and switch tactic, very shady and not an ethical way to do business. I understand I was behind, however I tried to do the right thing and I thought we had an agreement.

I applied for a loan back in November, 2022. I lost my job in December two weeks before Christmas. Like any good company once I fell behind on my payments they contacted me for a payment. It took several weeks after losing my job to find a new job. When I came across money I would pay on the loan that Advance America had given me. Surprisingly enough Advance America never locked my account and never sent the loan to a third party to be collected. In fact after a while Advance America even quit trying to contact me and waited patiently for me to start making payments again. Then I got a new job in early February, 2023 and I started making regular payments again. The loan is now paid off.

The one Giant CON to getting this loan was that every time they tried doing an ACH withdraw Advance America would try to withdraw funds several times if they didn't get their initial payment. This cost me an extra couple hundred dollars because my bank charged me for insufficient funds every time Advance America doubled or tripled their attempts to withdraw a payment out my checking account. Luckily my bank returned more than half the charges they charged me once I went in and explained my job situation to them at the time.

My recommendation: I would apply again to Advance America if I needed the funds but I would only do it if I knew I could pay them back quickly and not draw it out over several payments. In my situation I lost my job soon after getting the loan which happens but isn't the norm. So for me the nightmare was the repeated attempts to collect on the loan which cost me several insufficient funds charges through my bank and that is why I am only giving Advance America a 3 RATING.

This company sent me an email stating that I was going to be arrested and have my name turned over to the FBI for all kinds of reasons with all kinds of punishments.

I had a debt of 500$ to this company for a payday loan, and they're threatening me with $3,000.

I have called and spoken with them and tried to make payment arrangements with no help from the agency.

OMG!!! Maria and Natalie!!! That's right Maria and Natalie are the most kind, courteous, helpful and professional ladies everytime I go into the store. They always greet me with a smile. These two ladies really love their job I can tell. One time I needed a little more time to get my payment in to them. Maria was so kind and helpful and gave me another day. This really helped me ALOT as I had ran into an emergency situation that required some cash . Walking into Advance America and seeing Maria and Natalie also puts a smile on my face. Maria and Natalie make you feel like they care and they understand when you are going through a tough situation. Honestly, not just Advance America but ALOT of other companies should have alot more ladies like Maria and Natalie working for them. I love these two ladies. Thank you so very much for your kindness and understanding and showing empathy while still remaining professional ??????

If I could give a negative number I would!!! They are worse than loan sharks. I’ve used them for years and needed money for a wedding. I tried their installment loan. Got an amount and after paying for awhile, I refinanced at their bugging. I have paid OVER 1,800. On a 1,700. Loan. I just checked… I have removed 74. Yes SEVENTY FOUR DOLLARS FROM MY DEBT TO THEM!!!! I’ll be paying up until my death!!! Don’t use them EVER!!!!

I think yhst most of the negative reviews I read are from people that obviously got scammed, but not by advance america. I have dealt with them on and off fir many years and have never experienced a negative encounter.
The situations they described in those reviews appear to be hackers pretending to be AA. Should have contacted the corporate number and apprised them of the issues they had.

Omg I almost fell for this scam! We so need the emergency help and other offers have terrible interest. This was too good to be true and when I came on here, with the very classy Indian man on the line, I read these reviews and it saved me. I’m so grateful for the scam comments here. Calling Advance América for some real help, what a shame someone is using their name like this.

On line hackers and scammed will rip you off and you will think Advance America did it. Not true be careful of on line crap. Rite now their system has been down since Tue the 7th .no one knows if they were hacked or compromised.

I dealt with this company back in Dec of 2022 before the Christmas Holiday. Can say, upfront, this company is a true scam! Im so sorry I had to deal with them. They put money in my checking account, I got fooled! They told me to take out the cash to my cash app, and send that money to a stranger, gave me the name of that person, to send it to them their cash app, and the money will be deposited into my account, but they had another request. They had me to send 2000 to another strange person thru **** ***, which i have done (Im sorry I was desperate for a loan with a poor credit score) And again, saying they will deposit the loan amount I asked for, but they did not. Instead, they deposited about 60 separate online checks to my checking account which amounted to almost 6,000! I kept getting an email from every transaction every single time, all 60 of them. It was late at night, this Jason S**** who I was in contact with, with a terrible grammar when he spoke, English is not his first language. He would also send me text msgs, and phone calls instructing me to do these things, that did not make sense. He called me next morning, while I just caught the flu, instructing me to do other things, that I no longer felt comfortable to do, told him, I had to hang up due to not feeling good. Then I had to block them, to keep them from contacting me. It turned out I had to report this to my bank, they put my account on restricted basis, and my own bank accused me of doing this fraud myself! Meanwhile it left me with a negative balance of 6,000! Money that I did not put in! It's very complicated case! And he had the nerve to want to report me and take legal action! Then, after I ignored them, never heard from them again, due to me blocking him, this Jason S****, I know S**** is not his real name.
Never deal with this company! Ever!
