***** was excellent. She was patient, knowledgeable and very helpful. When I was unable to get an invoice from a service company that Madison Trust needed before they could send the payoff amount. I called the service company and was told each time that they did not send out invoices and could give me the amount over the phone. ***** set up a conference call and after a period of time the service company was able to send an invoice. I would give ***** a ten star review for her very professional attitude.

This company is a big Scam. Nothing but high fees! Customer service sucks. Tried to close my account because the company is invested in went bankrupt and there is no way to get any documents. They want to charge you taxes for your last evaluation. Just do it already. They are delaying the request so they can Take another service fee out plus account closing fee and whatever else they add on. Watch out people. They will drain you with fees!

Hi ****, thank you for your feedback. It is our commitment to provide exceptional service at a fair price.
As an IRA is a tax-advantaged account, there are specific procedures and documentation required when it comes to closing an account with an asset in it. The paperwork needed depends on whether you wish to transfer to another custodian (Outgoing Transfer Paperwork), distribute the funds to yourself personally (Distribution Request Form and Certified Asset Valuation or confirmation to distribute at last known value), or retire the asset at $0 value (Certified Asset Valuation). Our records indicate that you contacted us inquiring about how to close your account. Our team provided you with specific steps. At this time, we have not yet received the documentation necessary to close your account.
While it is common for banks and other financial institutions to charge transaction and closing fees, we aim to keep our fees as low as possible for our account holders. Our fees are highly competitive within the industry. The fees charged to your account are disclosed in our Fee Schedule and agreed upon during account opening. It is considered best practice to speak with a licensed professional, such as a CPA or attorney, to discuss questions relating to distributing an asset at last known value, potential tax implications or reconciling the value, and determine the best course of action for your particular situation.
In general, we do everything we can to make our processes and fees as transparent as possible to ensure a positive experience for every client. Based on your feedback, we will look for ways to improve. We wish you the best of luck on your retirement investing journey.

I have been a client of Madison Trust for about 5 years, after evaluating other platforms. In my opinion, Madison Trust is the best platform for self-directed IRA's. This is because their on-line platform is easy to use, robust (you can do almost any transaction without human intervention) but when you need help their professionals are knowledge well-trained, responsive (and not based in India!). In particular I would like to cite Justin who I have worked with recently who provides "concierge level" service.

If you’re looking for an honest, transparent, and ethical custodian to protect your retirement funds, run in the opposite direction from Madison Trust Company.
My family and others have been victimized by an alleged Ponzi scheme—our entire retirement accounts wiped out by fraudsters. Madison Trust continues to charge quarterly “maintenance fees” on accounts they know are likely worth $0 due to the custodial fraud they facilitated or ignored. We have begged for mercy, explained our situation, and asked them to stop adding insult to injury. They refused.
Instead of acting with integrity, Madison Trust has chosen to partner with bad actors and maintain business relationships with those under investigation by the FBI, DOJ, and SEC. This isn’t just negligence—this is complicity.
Madison Trust’s actions show a clear disregard for victims and law enforcement. Rather than helping customers recover or protect what little remains, they persist in extracting fees and cooperating with fraudsters. Their behavior is unethical, exploitative, and heartbreaking.
If you’re considering working with Madison Trust Company—don’t. Find a firm that puts people over profit and protects their clients, not one that helps criminals perpetuate fraud on their customers.

Denise, we understand this is a difficult situation, and we sincerely acknowledge that your hard-earned retirement funds may be at risk. Please know that we deeply empathize with the challenges you are facing. As a passive custodian, we are not affiliated with any investments or investment decisions made by our account holders. Our role is limited to facilitating your account, and when an account holder directs us to make an investment through their self-directed IRA, we follow those instructions exactly. We do not perform due diligence on any investment choices or provide investment advice. As made clear in both our Investment Authorization Form and Custodial Agreement, it is the responsibility of the account holder to assess the benefits, risks, tax implications, and legality of any investment decisions made. We do not provide tax, legal, or investment advice, and it is the account holder’s responsibility to monitor the investments over time. We have always aimed to assist our clients to the best of our ability, and we acknowledge that this is a challenging time. However, as long as your account remains open, we are responsible for the ongoing maintenance of that account, and our fees are necessary to cover the costs of this continued support. Unfortunately, these fees cannot be waived, as they are essential to the proper upkeep of the account, even during difficult circumstances. After careful consideration of the recent feedback and dissatisfaction with our services, we have come to the conclusion that, given the differences in expectations and business practices, our company policies no longer align with your needs. Therefore, we have determined that it is best for both parties that we resign as custodian, effective May 9th, 2025. Should you require assistance in transitioning to a new custodian or need further information regarding the next steps, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are committed to making this process as smooth as possible and are happy to provide guidance.

Excellent service. Emily R stopped me from making a possibly expensive mistake during onboarding with Madison Trust. If you have not had a self directed trust before (like me), a lot of the setup and asset transfer can be confusing. Emily explained each step, and waited while I completed it. 5 stars and thank you Emily.
