We contacted Hometown Buildings Plus following an advertisement on ******** Marketplace that seemed like a fair price for a storage building. Old Hickory Buildings sells their buildings at Hometown Buildings Plus which is located at ************************************************. On July 22, 2024, we traveled to their sales lot which had apx. ***** premade storage buildings which were available for purchase/rent to own. After viewing the units we wanted to see, we purchased a 10x20 side lofted playhouse for the sales price of $5080.00. Within minutes of the purchase being complete we received an email confirmation of the agreed terms which were jointly agreed upon by all involved parties. On July 24, 2024 we once again received an email confirming our purchase with the agreed upon terms. Hours later, we received a phone call from the sales person at Hometown Buildings Plus stating they had priced the storage unit to us incorrectly and requested $900.00 if we wished to go through with the purchase despite having a signed contract that Hometown Buildings Plus issued and we agreed to. After a few discussions with the sales staff, we contacted ************************* at Old Hickory Buildings, LLC. who informed us that they did not have to abide by the signed contract and that the decision had been made to cancel our order because we would not pay the increased price two days after the sale was complete. We are waiting for the refund of our deposit amount. This issue has put us 3-4 days behind schedule of our contractor beginning repairs on our home following a major loss during the May 2024 tornado outbreak in our area. We simply wish to warn customers from doing business with this group of individuals.Business Response

Dear ************,
We researched your issue and found that the dealer who sold you the building had made a significant mistake in the pricing of the building when creating the order. Our dealers are commissioned (but independent) sales agents, but they do not own the inventory and do not have the authority to change pricing except within the promotional discount parameters that we provide to them. In the case of your building sale, the dealer went beyond those parameters without the approval of our home office...which is why the order was put on hold and why the dealer reached out to you to report the discrepancy and ask whether you wanted to follow through with the purchase of the building for the corrected price.
it also sounds like the Territory Manager may not have exlained the issue fully, which led to further frustration on your part..which we completely understand. Because our dealers are independent sales agents and have limited permission to adjust pricing, all of our sales contracts are not final until they've been reviewed and approved by our inside sales team. It is this review process that cause the error and resulted in your order being placed on hold pending further conversation between you and the dealer. Unfortunately, the home office did not receive word of the cancellation until today...but our Accounting team is putting a rush on your refund given the inconvenience this has caused you.
We apologize for the situation.
Sincerely,
Old Hickory Buildings & Sheds

Old Hickory Sheds/PNW Sheds: Price match offered when I asked them to price match they call me a liar. They asked me for supporting documents and when I provided them they begrudgingly matched. But due to the customer service I canceled my order. They refunded all but $200. I called and asked why and they told me it was for paint they ordered. I requested the paint and they refused to give it to me. They owe me $200. This is theft.Business Response
Date: 07/24/2024
Dear ****************,
We're sorry to learn about the issue. We looked into it and there appears to have been a miscommunication internally between our inside sales team and our accounting team. Our SVP of Inside Sales had approved a full refund, but the $200 had been withheld after learning that the custom paint you originally ordered has already been purchased. While this is consistent with our policy to recoup expenses related to a custom build (like paint)...the full refund had already been authorized.
Our ********************* has been instructed to issue a refund for the final $200. Depending on your bank's processing time...you may see that refund post to your account anytime within the next 5-7 days.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Sincerely,
Old Hickory Buildings & Sheds

Pretty simple, doors do not keep out rain. From day one noticed water on floor, seems to be getting worse since stored materials inside are now getting wet. Just lost new insulation and now need to throwout and repurchase. This insulation was off the floor, almost seems like rain blows in covering everything in the shed. Top of door needs to be sealed better.Customer Answer

I'm adding a face-on photo of the doors to show how out of alignment they are. Its simply a matter of poor construction that if done right would prevent water getting into the shed.Business Response
Date: 07/11/2024
Dear ****************,
We're sorry to learn that you're having an issue with your building. Our records indicate that you purchased this shed on August 15th, 2022 and it was delivered to you August 18th, 2022. Our drivers are responsible for properly leveling the building so that doors and windows open the close properly. That said, we cannot control settling, which is a natural occurance depending on ground conditions and whether the building was placed on grass, soil...or some type of firm foundation. If ground conditions cause the building to settle...it's possible that doors and windows can become misaligned over time. Your comment that the issue seems to be getting worse, plus your photo of the out-of-alignment doors, both suggest that your building is experiencing settling. This is not a quality failure. It is an effect of the ground conditions and therefore not covered by our warranty.
We also advise customers that shed/barn doors, are inherently NOT weather-tight and do not seal like a house door...and we are unable to guarantee that the wooden barn door frames will prevent water from entering the building during heavy storms. However, our barn doors are equipped with tensioning rods that can be adjusted to close gaps at the top or bottom that develop over time. You can find a video on how to make these adjustments here: ***********************************************;
If a customer needs their barn door to be more weather-tight, we recommend installing 1/2" x 1/4" think high-density weatherstripping around the perimeter of their door, but we do not include this as standard become most customers understand that barn doors will not provide the same level of weather resistance as a house door, which we offer as an upgrade option.
That said, if doors or windows are not functioning properly immediately after delivery, a warranty claim can be filed and we will return to the delivery location to re-level the building and adjust the doors if necessary. The customer simply needs to file a simple online warranty claim and provide photos of the issue and we'll reschedule a repair visit. We found no warranty claim from you since taking delivery of your building nearly two years ago.
We can send a driver out to re-level your building if there's been settling...but there will likely be a small fee for the driver's time. Please reply and advise if you'd like us to schedule a driver to come re-level your building.
Sincerely,
Old Hickory Buildings & Sheds

I am rejecting this response because: The building is sold as a solid, engineered designed structor, they are not inexpensive, and therefore NOT flexable to the point that settling would cause this. To pay someone to fix poor construction is just not acceptable. I'm not asking for total reimbursment but something to cover the cost to actually reassemble the doors.
Sincerely,
***********************Business Response

****************,
Every structure is subject to potential settling...even houses. If you want to consult a contractor or an engineer, please feel free to do so. They will tell you the same thing. Had you poured a concrete pad, there would be significantly less potential for settling, but in the pictures you provided...it appears that your shed is sitting directly on the ground.
We cannot anticipate the soil conditions or the long-term effects of ground moisture where customers opt to place their **********************. Our drivers ensure the sheds are properly leveled (using concrete blocks or shims where required) so that doors and windows work properly. But we cannot predict settling over time. As a result...the effects of ground settling are not covered by our warranty.
Once again, we'll be happy to send a driver out to re-level your building, but there will be a minor fee for the driver's time...usually around $150.
Sincerely,
Old Hickory Buildings & Sheds

Its pretty clear that this company is not going to provide a fix for a poorly constructed shed, other than to charge a fee to fix a shed that cost thousands. In checking for level we found there was no evidence of any settling, as stated this shed leaked from day one. Regardless these are cheaply constructed structors. I would warn anyone considering the purchase from this company to look at other shed providers and note the difference in the quality of construction before investing your hard earned savings.
Thanks to, and a note of appreciation, to the better business bureau for their assistance.

On Feb. 23, 2024 I paid Old HIckory Sheds the stated amount. I gave the payment in the form of a check to their agent. He took an image of the check, wrote "void" on the check, and gave the check back to me.That check has not been cashed. My account information is still hung up somewhere in their system, either with the agent, their electronic media, or both. I contacted them a week ago, asking them to get it to their bank. They said they would proceed. They apparently have zero regard for the value of the information they obtain or the sensitivity of a customer's information. A consumer has the right to have their account information handled in a safe and expeditious manner. They apparently handle bank deposits on a "when we get around to it" manner. This benefits no one. I'm sure they think they have all the security angles covered. So did ******* and the U.S. Government, both of whom were hacked.Business Response

Dear *******************************,
We're replying to let you know that your payment was finally processed on March 19th. Old Hickory does take customer privacy and our systems security very seriously, so when we read your comment...we looked into your order status. There was a delay in processing resulting from a systems error, but at no time was your personal or financial information unsecure. We regret that the error wasn't caught earlier and we've take steps to ensure the error doesn't occur on future orders from our customers. We hope that you'll enjoy the use of your shed for years to come.
Sincerely,

On June 19, 2023 I ordered a custom shed from this company at ** ******************************** ************ Authorized ******* dealer **** AZ-92, ************ ** ***** and was asked to pay a deposit of $1,442.45 I was told by salesperson ********************* and it also states on the contract to be delivered within 4-6 weeks weather permitting. 10 weeks came by and no phone call and no shed, we called the delivery driver ***************** but didn't return our call. My wife *************************** and I called to the company after the 11th week and they mentioned that they were going to look into it and call us back but they never did. 12 weeks came by and we decided to call the delivery driver again, luckily he answered but gave us 3 different stories. He first said that he`s been trying to get a hold of us and when we mentioned that we didn't have a miss call from him, then he said that he was short on delivery drivers. When we asked him which one is it, and that`s when he mentioned that they had fired the salesperson and everything was mixed up with the delivery`s. At that moment we were very disapointed and we decided to call back to the main company and cancel because of the lies and the lack of communication. There lies and our frustation continued, they told us that we couldn't get our refund because of the cancelation, after us getting the run around from the company my wife contacted a manager *********************** on December 28, 2023 and she finally had the oportunity to explain exactly the situation, his response was that the driver ***************** had numerous of complaints and that the deposit was going to be refunded in a week. Weeks went by and no refund, on January 30,2024 we called ****** and no answer, on the same day again we patiently called the company and spoke to customer service ***************** and again he told us no refund. While having him on the phone my wife called ******, he answered and told my wife that he was emailing **** with refund approval after being on hold forever again, no refund.Business Response

Dear **************,
We're sorry to learn of your experience. Although it is our written policy NOT to refund deposits for custom buildings when construction has already begun due to the cost in labor and materials that has already been spent...we investigated your case further. Communication records with the delivery driver were reviewed by ***************** and we spoke with ************************* about the case, who believes that better communication by the driver would have resulted in a better outcome. Because of this, your refund has been approved and a refund request has been sent to our Accounting team to process. Please be aware that refunds are issued in the same manner in which deposits are received...so if you paid by check, a check will be sent in our next check cycle. If you paid using a credit or debit card...the refund will be issued to your account, although we have no control over when you banking institution or creditor will post the funds to your account. It can sometimes take a few weeks in either case, so please be patient with the refund process and be on the lookout for the refund.
Again, we regret the experience you've had. It is NOT the norm for our customers...but we will follow up with the driver on this and make sure they understand the importance of timely and professional communication with customers.
Sincerely,
Old Hickory Buildings & Sheds

I recently purchased a 16 x 24 building from old Hickory buildings out of ********* ********. I paid almost $12,000 for this building. When it was delivered I noticed that the rollup door did not shut all the way because they put the lock in the wrong spot, I have contacted ************* who sold me Building numerous times since then to have someone come out and fix the problem? Ive yet to have anyone call me or come out to my home. With all the rain that we have been getting my floor is now getting wet and Im afraid its going to get ruined because of the door not being able to shut , I would like a brand new door possibly a new floor now or some money back on the price that I paid. Today is January 11, and it has been four weeks since delivery and yet have spoke to no one. I have contacted **** numerous times try to find out when and who, and what they will be doing to fix this problem and have yet heard anything.Business Response

Hello Ms. ****,
We're sorry to learn that the building you purchased and received is not meeting your satisfaction due to a potential warranty issue. The salesperson at the ************ lot should have returned your calls and informed you that warranty claims need to be made through the Old Hickory website. Salespeople at dealer locations are independent contractors and don't have the ability to submit claims on behalf of customers. They're trained to direct customers to our online warranty claims page...so we're not sure why ********** didn't advise you of this. We'll be sure to follow up with him to reinforce this training point.
To submit your claim, please visit ************************************************************; Please fill out the form completely and include photos of the issue so that it can be properly reviewed by our warranty repairs department.
Again, we're sorry for any inconvenience the lack of communication from the dealer salesperson has caused you. Our warranty repairs team will get in touch with you regarding your claim after they've had a chance to review the submission and pictures.
Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because: ********** has done everything he can to assist me with this issue. I am very upset because I should not be having this issue to begin with. This is a brand new building in which I have paid a lot of money for, and to have it deliver to me unable to secure it is unacceptable. I thought that it had to pass inspection? Obviously someone is not doing their job. I have yet to receive a copy of my warranty also. It is going on on five weeks since my initial complaint. Next the floor in my building will be damaged because I can not shut the door all the way.

Ms ****,
We're unsure why you are rejecting our response to your initial complaint. In that first complaint, you said that ************* hadn't replied to your requests for help...so we said that we'd address that issue with him and gave you the link to file a claim. After checking with our warranty repairs team, it appears that your claim was filed and that our team has already sent you a notification that a repair would be scheduled. That repair has already been assigned to our shop, who will coordinate with you on the schedule. This is the process for handling warranty claims and repairs. We're sorry that ********** did not tell you to file your claim in this manner earlier as this could have been addressed much sooner if the initial complaint had been filed through our online claim form as those are checked and followed up on each day.
Your sales agreement includes information about the warranty, but you can also find a copy here: **************************************************************************
We understand that you're upset that your shed wasn't perfect at the time of delivery...as are we. While the vast majority of our buildings don't experience any issues and are inspected before they're delivered...we have a warranty policy in case something is missed. This is no different than any other product you might buy. The warranty covers issues that *** have been missed for some reason.
We're confident that once the repair to your building is complete...you'll be satisfied with the outcome.
Sincerely,
Old Hickory Buildings & Sheds

I purchased and had delivered a 12x24 building for which, with options, I paid almost $10,000.00. One of the options I paid extra for was metal siding over OSB plywood. This included metal trim. When I received the building, everything was ok except the garage door frame was not trimmed in metal, it was wood and even has some OSB exposed to the exterior. After several emails back and forth with their customer service, ********************** tells me this is the way they build them and offered no resolution to this problem. If this is the way they build them then it is at a minimum false advertising. I paid for a metal siding building with metal trim, not partial metal trim. I simply would like Old Hickory to provide what I paid for and repair their mistake with a color matching metal trim to cover the exposed wood around the garage door frame.Business Response
Date: 04/18/2023
**********************,
We reviewed your complaint with our Warranty Repairs Manager. Although our standard practice for door openings on metal buildings is to face them with pressure treated...we do understand how the choice of metal trim color could lead you to believe that the garage door would also be metal trimmed. We're going to note this in our marketing materials going forward in hopes of avoiding this confusion in the future...but our Warranty Repairs team has agreed to issue a "repair" to your building in order the trim the door with metal. That metal trim will need to be special ordered, so it may take a little time to schedule the install...but the repair request has already been submitted to the shop that built your building.
We hope this resolves the issue to your satisfaction. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
Sincerely,

I decided not to purchase a storage shed from Old Hickory Buildings because it would take too long to get it placed on my property. I paid a deposit on 11/18/2022 of $343.97. I cancelled the shed in January and the 3rd party company who sold it to me gave me the phone number of the Old Hickory home office to collect my refund. A man at that number told me my deposit of $343.97 would be refunded within **** days from that date of 02/09/2023. After 10 days I contacted the home office via email on 02/21/2023 and asked where my refund was - they replied via email that day saying it takes ***** business days from 02/09/2023. I waited until 03/02/2023 to email again. This would be 15 business days including a Federal holiday. I still don't have my refund and the last email they sent me said they would expedite my refund so I have it within 1-2 business days. That's unacceptable since you can't expedite an overdue refund! I have never had a company take this long to refund any money from a purchase.I just want my $343.97 refund back on my card today. My order #******.Customer Answer

I special ordered a building from Old Hickory , and selected on my options sheet , to have a moisture barrier installed on all of the walls . I paid extra for this . Purchased a shed back in the beginning of September. I put a little over $500 down in a check form for the rent to own purchase, which turns out he over charged me. Got it delivered and found it to be a little smaller for everything I had to fit inside. About two days later I called the company advising it was too small and cancelled my order. They came within that week and picked it up. I called about my refund and they said it should be refunded after 10 business days. It was not refunded. After calling they said they didn't have the money the rental company had it. But I advised them I had called the rental company and they stated they did not have the money to call Old Hickory Buildings. I would just like my deposit back for a shed I only had for like 2 days.Business Response
