5 starsThank you ATMOS Energy for upgrading the gas lines in our community. Your service men work hard and are friendly. When my gas went out your service man helped us light our pilot light. Sean also remembered us from 2 years ago when he helped address a gas leak. As he upgraded the service lines he made sure he installed the right size line and meter to run a generator.
I was so impressed with ATMOS that I invited, Chris, their CFO to speak to my class about how ATMOS makes decisions. Chris confirmed that the people living in the communities they serve are at the forefront of ATMOS’ decision-making. I can tell this because when I call the service line with a problem a person from my community answers the phone and cares about addressing my problem.Review fromBarbara D

Wish I could give ZERO stars. 22 year customer and I just received a bill with NO NOTIFICATION that "meter readers" for two entire cities (***** and ********** *****) 'messed up' reading the meters for 3 consecutive months - November and December 2022, and January 2023, of course during their peak season of winter months. Now they have stated that I owe an additional almost $500 on top of my current monthly bill - due in two weeks. I reviewed the past 5 years of bills during this period and except for the pandemic, they all pretty much align monthly. My issue is that the bill reflects all of these "extra CCF" units happened during the current bill, when that is FALSE. I was told they don't know when the units were used, just that they were. I also said I received nothing in writing stating this was their error and they would work with us in any way!!! They have accepted ZERO responsibility for this error and refuse to accept accountability, which is unacceptable to me. Unethical business behavior trying to state we utilized all that usage during a 28 day period. SHAME ON YOU!! This is YOUR fault ATMOS, and you need to be held responsible for your errors and pay the difference! I am not home two weeks out of the month and a $685 gas bill is absolutely ridiculous. On top of that, they are trying to retro all the taxes and fees, etc. - again, no apology, nothing in writing even stating their was an error on their part. With this much usage and me out of town, I thought there was a major leak and that my house could have a chance of exploding, so I called in a panic and AT THAT TIME was made aware of the 3-month meter reading errors. So they can't tell me when the gas was used, only that the meter said it was. When I said how do you know it has ever been right? Response = we don't. DO BETTER ATMOS. customer of 22 years LOST.Atmos Energy

There was a meter reader issue in this area during the December and January billing periods. Several meters were under-read and the usage not yet billed was then billed out on the February billing invoice. You were billed for 34 CCFs from 10/18/22- 11/14/22 when the average temperature was 64 degrees. You were then billed for only 19 CCFs from 11/15/22-12/15/22 when the average temperature was 54 degrees. You were also only billed for 51 CCFs from 12/16/22-01/17/23 when the average temperature was 51 degrees. When the actual read was taken in February you were billed for 557 CCFs from 01/18/23-02/15/23 when the average temperature was 48 degrees. The total usage for the year and from November through February lines up with prior years at the home in the winter months when usage is combined. That February bill was held as we evaluated all the reads and bills in your area and attempted to notify customers. We contacted you on 02/17/23 to notify of the issue but the only phone number we had on file was disconnected. The February bill was then released 2/21/23 and is for 557 CCFs from 01/18/23-02/15/23 but also captures some of the gas used between 11/15/22-01/17/23. You contacted us back 03/02/23 and we were able to notify you of the issues. The Gas Cost Recovery rate was much higher in December ($1.03104 per CCF) and January ($1.02804 per CCF) than it was in February ($.77224 per CCF), so we decided not to re-allocate usage as it would increase total bill amounts. The call center is offering a variety of payment plan options for customers in this effected area should you require one. They can be reached at ************.Review fromMashy M

There was a meter reader issue in the Plano/Richardson area during the January billing period. Several meters were under-read by an employee and the usage not yet billed was then billed out on the February billing invoice. You were billed for 105 CCFs from 11/11/22- 12/09/22 when the average temperature was 52 degrees. You were then billed for only 30 CCFs from 12/10/22-01/11/23 when the average temperature was 51 degrees. When an actual read was taken by a different meter reader in February you were billed for 249 CCFs from 01/12/23-02/09/23 when the average temperature was 48 degrees. The total usage for the year and from November through February lines up with prior years at the home in the winter months when usage is combined. That February bill was held as we evaluated all the reads and bills in your area and attempted to notify customers. We attempted to contact you on 2/14/23 to notify of the issue with the reads, a voicemail was left for you. The February bill was then released on 2/21 and is for 249 CCFs from 01/12/23-02/09/23 but also captures some of the gas used between 12/10/22-01/11/23. We see you also spoke to our call center on 2/23/23 about the billing. The Gas Cost Recovery rate was much higher in January ($1.02804 per CCF) than it was in February ($.77224 per CCF), so we decided not to re-allocate usage as it would increase total bill amounts. I would give no stars if it all possible. Had the worst experience with this company who had no understanding for our situation. They cut off the gas on a Friday afternoon without even knocking on our door to let ** know. Had to find other accommodations for my two young children over the weekend and when I called Monday morning they told me the earliest they would be able to come to turn it on would be Wednesday. They have absolutely no humanity even when speaking with a supervisor who had no sense of apology or consideration. It makes no sense to me how they could be so inhumane and treat me with such disrespect. Would never choose this organization.Atmos Energy

The prior tenant of the home moved out 2/10/2023. Gas is left on for a short period to allow new tenants to place gas service into their name. If this is not done, gas service is turned off. Gas was turned off 2/24/2023 and technician noted it was a vacant home. Customer requested gas service 2/27/2023 and gas was turned back on 2/28/2023.Review fromDestiny C

You will see the following items on your bill. Monthly Customer Charge: The Customer Charge is a monthly fee to cover metering, billing and other fixed costs associated with the customer's account and is not affected by the amount of gas consumed. Distribution Service: This is the charge for delivering natural gas and providing safe and reliable service, it will vary monthly. Purchased Gas Adjustment: This is the cost for natural gas used within the billing period. This is a pass through expense and no profit is added to this amount. Franchise Fee: Recovers taxes paid to towns and cities for the use of alleys, streets and rights-of ways. It is calculated on the dollar amount of the bill. It is applicable to customers inside city limits.Review fromTina R

1 starI called them at 11:45 a.m for a strong gas odor through out the neighbor that we could smell in the front yard, they finally showed up at 3 p.m.! This is unacceptable for a gas emergency. They act like they're all concerned & always tell you all these precautions to take but they don't really care. Luckily they did not find a leak at the residence. A couple hours later l called back to get more information on the strong odor & was told there were technicians in the area so we don't really know what the cause was. They never provided any informationReview fromWhitley J

We have been trying to get gas turned on at our house for over a week and they keep driving by without doing the work (just scheduled 3rd visit). My wife has been outside both times the technician has claimed he came to the door and I can provide video evidence. She even ran after his truck the first time. Atmos, please call me out and provide the proof that your technician did indeed come to the door. You won't because you can't. I've got a video system that rivals ************* and have video saved from the exact times they claimed they showed up.Atmos Energy

We are showing a technician visited the home on 8/29/2022 to turn on gas but the pressure test of the gas lines failed and the technician was unable to complete the turn on, the technician notified the homeowner on site. Another technician returned to the home on 8/31/2022 at 8:49pm to attempt turn on again but noted no one was home and they tagged the door. Another technician returned to the home on 9/1/2022, they performed another pressure test of the gas lines and noted they were unable to get gas pressure to outlets inside the home. A plumber onsite was going to investigate the issue. The technician red tagged the piping and left gas off. Another technician returned to the home on 9/6/2022 at 9:18am and at 11:50am and technician noted both times no one answered the door. Gas was then turned on 9/7/2022 at 3:03pm. Please give us a call at XXX-XXX-XXXX if you have any further questions.Review fromElliot S

It's unfortunate that Atmos is the only natural gas company that serves our community here in Round Rock. We have no option to select anyone else and this company simply reaps the rewards from the lack of competition and better prices. Now that the weather is getting cooler, it's too coincidental that they've announced today that they are planning to raise prices. My summer bills were higher than any other place I've lived in the country and after feeling a bit of relief with the fall/winter months coming up, Atmos seizes the opportunity and screws me. I hate this company.Atmos Energy

The communication released was intended to advise customer of possible natural gas rate increases. These are not rates set by Atmos Energy. We have seen the price of natural gas rise to it's highest rate in 10 years. Gas Cost Recovery (GCR) - Gas Cost Recovery includes amount to recover the actual gas cost paid to suppliers and the transportation charges paid to deliver gas to the city. There is no profit added to the gas cost. Atmos Energy purchases gas for use by its customers. The gas that is purchased may be transported directly to customers for immediate use or placed into storage for future use. Each month, Atmos reviews how much gas it purchased and needed during the prior month and how much gas it expects to need in the upcoming month. During this review, Atmos considers the "spot price" for gas on the market, "upstream transportation" prices for getting the gas to Atmos' customers and "storage costs". Atmos does not know exactly how much gas a customer will need in any given month until after the customer has already used the gas. Atmos may over or under purchase the amount of gas it needs. If Atmos has not purchased enough gas, it must purchase more gas on the market or withdraw it from storage. The Gas Cost Recovery (GCR) Factor is designed to recover these costs. There is no mark up on these costs; Atmos only recovers its costs. Each year the Railroad Commission of Texas audits Atmos' costs for the prior year to make sure that Atmos is prudently purchasing gas and recovering costs from its customers. Because the gas cost that appears each month on a customer's bill includes not only the market price of gas but things like "upstream transportation" prices and "storage", the gas cost will not match market prices. The market price is only one piece of the charges reflected in Atmos' gas costs.
