On Wednesday, December 14, 2022 I called this company to have someone come out and check my attic because I thought I might have animals that had settled up there. An inspector arrived at my house and looked around the perimeter. He told me that he could tell that I definitely have rats in the attic and that he could see that without checking the attic itself. He said the cost of 4 visits for trapping and removal as well as patching up the entry points would cost $758. I am terrified of rats, so I went ahead and had them put my card on file and scheduled the first visit for Monday, December 19th. On the 19th, an exterminator arrived and set traps in the attic and patched up the entry points. He noted that he saw a few tracks, but didn't see any droppings or urine so it's unlikely I had rats living in the attic. He scheduled another three visits and said he would be back on Tuesday, December 27th. I was charged for the full $758 after that first visit on the 19th. Between the 19th and the 27th, I didn't hear any noises in the attic. On the 27th, the exterminator checked the traps in the attic and confirmed that there was nothing in the traps. After that visit, I called the company and asked that they cancel the remaining visits and give me a refund for the trapping program that was not needed in the first place. I had to place several calls to their billing department and the inspector. On Monday, January 2, 2023, they called me back and told me they could only refund me $100. This company lied about the services I needed and then charged me for services that were never rendered. I'm happy to pay the price for the patching that was done, but I should be refunded in full for the trapping and removal services that were never provided and were not needed. I think they intentionally took advantage of me knowing that I'm a first time homeowner and they should refund me for the services that they didn't provide.

******, thanks for reaching out to us. I will have our manager Tom reach out to you. we did in good faith refund what we considered work not performed. Tom will be able to discuss with you and make sure that we all agree.

      Consumer Response /* (3000, 12, 2023/02/14) */
After I filed this complaint and disputed the charge with my bank, I received a call from a Florida number. The man, Tom, claimed to be a representative of the company. He said he would send me a $300 check to help resolve the issue. I never received the check, and the company decided to instead refute the dispute I submitted with my bank. Truly unethical business practices. I have no choice but to follow up with my bank and submit consumer complaints to the Texas AG and FTC.

      Business Response /* (4000, 14, 2023/02/20) */
******, I am glad to see you respond here. If you have already disputed it with your bank, you are asking for a refund. If we also send you $300, then you will receive more money back than what we had agreed upon. We either pay you back, or the bank pays you back, but we can't both pay you back. We disputed the claim with the bank because we had agreed to give you $300 back, not the additional amount requested. Tom attempted to call you so that you can remove the dispute with your bank, but we never heard back from you. Please call us so that we can resolve the issue. You can call our office and ask for Troy, we will get it resolved, but only if the amount disputed comes back to us so that we aren't paying both.

      Consumer Response /* (4200, 16, 2023/02/22) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Thank you for your message. I disputed the charge with my bank on 1/12/23, 5 days before I was contacted by Tom. I had tried to reach out to your company before 1/12, but I was told they could not give me a refund for the trapping services. They told me they could only give me $100.
When I spoke to Tom on 1/17/23, he told me he would send a $300 check in order to refund me for the services I did not receive. After we spoke, he also emailed me a quote that outlined the cost of the service. That was the first time I received a copy of the quote from your company, and the first time I saw the charges outlined.

The dispute with my bank was closed on 2/13/23, and the money was not refunded or credited back to me. I also never received a check in the mail.

As of today, I have given Berrett Pest Control $657.75 to add a mesh patch to my roof (exclusion). I also discovered in early January that I was misled by your inspector and did not have, and never have had, rats in my attic.

If it is your intention to actually give me a refund, please confirm in writing.

      Business Response /* (4000, 18, 2023/02/22) */
That is good to know. Yes, we have agreed to give you a $300 refund, but the dispute came back at the same time, so we didn't want to give you both back. I will have **** reach out to you, and I will have Troy go in and confirm that the chargeback didn't go through. If we can confirm that it is finalized, then we will send you the $300 back just as was promised prior.

On 5/11/2022 paid $162.38 for a yearly exterior fire ant treatment service for my property. They said they would prevent fire ants for a full year for that price. They completed a treatment for fire ant mounds around 9/9/2022 and on 11/3/2022. They missed treating some fire ant mounds and came back the next week and sent a note stating I would have to pay for additional "Top Choice" treatment on 11/9/2022. I said that I do not wish to pay for another treatment of Top Choice..., but would request they handle new mounds as identified. Shortly after that I found another mound and requested they treat the mound found. Although a new treatment was scheduled for Nov. 12, 2022, no one arrived. I called back on three separate occasions over the next three weeks and still no additional treatment. I think this yearly treatment of Top Choice was not properly applied to the yard and missed some area especially at the edges of the property near the fence and near the street. I would like them to honor their guarantee to keep fire ants off of my property for the full year or refund my money.

*****, thanks for bringing this to our attention. You had set up regular service with us on a quarterly basis. The treatment schedule was quarterly, and the billing schedule was monthly. The amount paid was broken up into a monthly amount instead of a quarterly amount. We come and treat every 3 months, but with the billing it is monthly instead of quarterly. It is the convenient billing plan. We have it on the agreement as well as it was explained when we spoke with you over the phone. We only did a 4 month agreement with you, whereas most companies do a year long agreement. It really was a good option for you.

I hired Berrett Pest control in May 2022
When I initially called them I was told the best thing to do because they're so busy is to pay monthly and they would do quarterly automatic visits with a call or a text 24 hours before they came this sounded to me like a good idea .I am busy I work from home they assured me I would be notified 24 hours before and they would come on a Saturday.
They came once and exterminated my back porch of flys nothing else the second time they came they did the interior After that I received no text or call saying they were returning I paid monthly. They never called to let me know they were coming they came when they felt like it.
I work from home I have been randomly interrupted by men at my door telling me they were here to exterminate my house and I never got a text 24 hours before, nothing was ever set up ,they just showed up randomly no call no notice.
I had paid them $211 and I decided that that was enough my debit card expired I decided to no longer have them I let them know I told them not to take anymore money out of my account they went into my account anyway and withdrew 42.22 twice with out my permission.on Oct 18
Today I am working and I was rudely interrupted by a man at my door from berrett saying he was here to exterminate. I had to interrupt my customer for this rude encounter
While he sat in my house he sent me a text he was on his way than text I canceled. So unprofessional I did not have an appointment and why were you on your way and why were you knocking on my door taking my work time.
I have so far paid 300 dollars for one extermination inside.
      I want my money back.

10/2/2022 I hired this company to remove cobwebs and spray around the eaves outside of my house. The tech told me he could not remove cobwebs or spray around the eaves to keep the spiders from coming back. So I could not get the service I paid for when I set the appt. up. He called his office and left within a few minutes. I attempted several times to communicate with the company and have had no return phone calls or emails to resolve this. I feel that I have been scammed and have reported this to my credit card company. I want my money back because they did not provide a service at all..Also, I was home and I have pics of exterior of my home where there is no treatment and you see the cobwebs are still there.

I know we did go out and treat the full exterior of the home when we were out there. In good faith, we will go ahead and refund your account what you have paid. In March of 2022, we contacted Berrett Pest Control to come inspect our new construction home for mice. Travon Price came to our home and did the initial inspection and recommended an exclusion service to seal up any points of entry for mice. This service included a 1 yr warranty, and weekly follow ups of bait/trap until the property was given the all clear. The cost of this service was $974.25. We were never able to get the all clear.

Fast forward to 7/20/22, Travon again came out to inspect, as we were hearing/seeing more activity (not less). He stated that he found an area on the back of the home where he "felt cold air coming from where the siding meets the foundation, but he sealed it up it up and we should be good now."

6 days later, on 7/26/2022 a different technician came out, and when I explained what occurred at the previous visit, he went around back to reinspect. What we found was beyond appalling. There was no spray foam under the siding at all. But instead we found shredded pieces of aluminum cans! Aside from the fact that this material couldn't the home from pests, it also created a hazard for anyone reaching up there to inspect. The technician removed the material and added spray foam to the back corner of the area.

Fast forward to 9/22/2022, we are still hearing/seeing activity. Again a tech is sent out to inspect. NOW we are being told that the gap is too large for them to seal, extends to that entire wall, and is an issue we need to take up with the builder. My question is why was this not found or mentioned in March?

After several attempts to get answers from the manager Allen, and a request sent through their customer service to speak with Troy, I am left with no other option but to leave a negative review for this company. I feel that we are entitled to at the VERY LEAST a partial refund, as the initial exclusion service was never completed as promised. I will be finding a different pest control company.

      Mrs *****,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Brandon mentioned that he has spoken with you, and recognized areas of concern on our end. We are addressing those. He mentioned that there are areas on the home that the builder is potentially going to seal, and areas that we need to seal. Please let us know if there are any issues moving forward.

      Consumer Response /* (3000, 13, 2022/11/16) */
Additional information - we have had to hire a new company to come out and properly do an exclusion service which will include having tear out all of Berrett Pest Control's "fixes", and redo it correctly. Berrett Pest Control will not be offered any more opportunities to come on our property to correct the sub-par work that they performed, even though we are still within our "1 year warranty". The tech noted that the cement that they built up around the garage door, was crumbling. The roof had several areas around vents that were never sealed, the rear of the house has gaps, even after Berrett Pest Control put mesh in there, and the mesh was not anchored to anything, making it easy to fall out. The problem has been allowed to continue for 9 months under Berrett Pest Control's watch. Meaning the amount we paid them for this service was a complete waste of time and money. I would caution anyone against doing business with this company. They are understaffed, do poor work, and do not honor their warrantees.

      Business Response /* (4000, 15, 2022/11/21) */
Here is the response from our manager Brandon:

I spoke to her back in September-

"I called and spoke to Mrs, She was very nice and semi understanding. We failed to identify the main entry point on her home from the beginning and when we did we did not seal it properly. 1 side of the back of the house is not built like the other, where the siding meets the foundation 1 side is really tight and the other side has a 3in gap. This is not normal. Hector sealed it on 9/22 but he did it in a way that can be removed if the builder needs to repair the area. Mrs ***** is currently waiting on the builder. Hopefully the builder will repair the area and we can do a final seal. If the builder does not do any repair we will make the seal permanent. Mrs was glad to hear and will keep me informed on the steps in the process." note on account from 9/28

Hector went out there 3 times after I spoke to her and had not caught anything, I had not heard from her since. Had she called me we would have continued to go out for her, I gave her my number and she never reached out to me this last time.

      Consumer Response /* (4200, 17, 2022/11/22) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not see a proposed resolution in their answer.

As I stated (and the point that Berrett seems to agree on) they initially missed an entire wall where there was - according to them, a 3 INCH GAP. After 6 months of ongoing activity, they FINALLY figured out what they missed. My point is, it shouldn't have taken that long. Had they found that area sooner, we could have address this with the builder sooner. As far as their temporary fix, it did seem very temporary, as when Hector came back out to reinspect (after dark mind you) he found that one of the areas where mesh was put in, had completely fall out into the wall, leaving it wide open again. He tried to convince me that the activity that I was hearing, was geckos (not mice) even though we had been catching mice fairly regularly. As far as my most recent contact with Berrett, when I heard (and confirmed) a trap going off in the attic on Friday Nov 4, we had no option for removal, except to contact the main phone #. A tech did come to remove the rodent/trap, and left without a word. I waited 1.5 weeks for someone to contact us for follow up, since something was caught, no one did. When I called (on 11/15), I was told that because we did not have "regular service" that no one would contact us for follow up, and it was "not covered under our warranty". It was when that representative read the notes to find that Brandon was involved, she said she would reach out to him and he would contact me. To date, no one from Berrett has reached out to me regarding our service, our warranty, anything caught on 11/5....nothing.

*******, thanks for bringing this to our attention. It sounds like you might not have understood the service or how the billing works. It is a quarterly service, meaning that the treatment schedule is every 3 months. The billing schedule is monthly, meaning that you aren't paying per service, you are paying a monthly amount which renews the warranty each month in case you need us in between treatments. We automatically come out every 3 months, and then if you need us in between those regular treatments, just let us know. Per the agreement, we did a 4 month agreement, which is the initial treatment, and then 3 more payments after that. Most companies do a twelve month agreement.
Our commitment is only 4 months. I hope that helps. Call us if you have any other questions.
