CenterPoint Energy is an incompetent company, which license should be removed by the utility authority. On March 4, 2025, CenterPoint Energy had six ***** blackouts lasting from 5 secs to 5 mins at my address ******************************************. There were no specific weather problems in the area. CenterPoint does not know what they are doing. CenterPoint cares less about how many appliances and electronic equipment they damage. If they need to work on the power lines or distribution stations, then shut down the power until they fix the problem. but keep spiking power six times throughout the day is not acceptable. I had to put surge protectors starting in the electric box and throughout the house on all appliances and electronics to protect my house from this incompetent company that does not have a clue what they are doing.Business Response

I am a physician at the ******* E ******* Veterans Affair Medical Center. I am the guardian, power of attorney, and caretaker for my 77yr old mother who has health issues and lives with me. I purchased a house in ****** and moved it into it around Nov-Dec of 2024. My girlfriend transferred the water, garbage, electric, gas utilities under my name. She setup electronic billing and autopay so that we would not be bothered with paper bills. I am extremely busy treating military veterans and rarely have time to worry about things such as bills. On Friday 2/28/2025, my gas was abruptly disconnected. To our knowledge, we have no outstanding dues. We have absolutely no notices of outstanding dues or disconnection notice.1. As a result of gas disconnection I have no hot water in my house, causing extreme difficulties for a vulnerable person, my mother.2. I called Centerpoint Energy Saturday (3/1/2025) morning and was told that my connection was disconnected due to non-payment of dues! However, there was no way to make a payment and get the connection reinstated - Centerpoint offices are closed over the weekend 3. This is a highly depraved and malevolent act by Centerpoint Energy - a. Absolutely no statement, notification, warning delivered by email, **** mail, or other forms of commonly accepted communication methods.b. Disconnecting an energy supply in winter c. Disconnecting a critical utility just before the weekend with intent to harm, knowing fully well that the customer will have no recourse for the next 2-3 days.d. Putting a vulnerable senior citizen in danger We have truly become a society run by greed and avarice, enabled by laws enacted by politicians who are only concerned about corporations and re-election donations by the latter. Thank you for reaching out to CenterPoint Energy. Our records indicate that an account had not been established in your name, prior to disconnection. The builder was being billed for the gas at your residence and requested to have their account closed. Please note that CenterPoint Energy does not send notifications for move-out requests made by the existing account holder. We show your initial contact with us was on March 3rd regarding the establishment of an account in your name, and we can confirm that your gas service is now active. Based on this information, an adjustment and/or credit is not warranted. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns.
Kind Regards, CenterPoint Energy

Centerpoint owes me ****** for a plumber ******* ***************** On Monday I called to report possible gas leak with home generator. Technician found no leak. Employee ****** checked all gas in my home and garage. He turned off the pilot to my hot water heater and heating unit in the garage. He finished nothing detected and left them off without telling me. I had no heat or hot water *************** with temps going down below freezing. This is unacceptable and cost me money due to his negligence. I am requesting ****** reimbursement to resolve this no common sense practice. I have called customer line and said not their problem. The tech cited a warning on my gas stove which a joke with his faulty gas detector. He also put in a new gas meter to charge more. Centerpoint is a big company and left me out in the cold with no consideration.Business Response

I have submitted proof of payment for the payment due on 02/03, three times starting on 01/30 (01/30, 02/04, and 02/11). I had filed a previous claim for 2 prior payments and was not able to stop payment on this one in time to switch to another form of payment that they hopefully would be able to link up properly. I have received no communications back from CenterPoint other than to my original BBB complaint. I closed out that complaint before I knew that they were not going to properly apply this payment as well.Business Response

Thank you for allowing us to address your concerns. When making payments to your CenterPoint Energy account, please make sure that you are submitting payments to your most recently assigned CenterPoint Energy account number, including the number after the dash. Without that check digit on your account, the system recognizes the last digit entered as the check digit which will post your payment to the wrong account.

I'm writing to file a formal complaint against CenterPoint Energy regarding the ongoing and frequent power outages in the Bear Creek Village subdivision of Houston, Texas. I have been a resident in this neighborhood for over 12 years, and during that time, power disruptions have been a constant issue. Despite varying weather conditions, whether sunny, drizzling, or cold, we frequently lose power while surrounding neighborhoods and nearby cities remain unaffected. This issue has persisted for over a decade, with no significant improvement or resolution from CenterPoint Energy.
The power outages are especially troubling during storms or inclement weather, where we can predict that we will lose power while everyone around us retains it. These outages cause serious inconvenience, particularly for residents with medical conditions who rely on electrical equipment, pet owners who need to ensure a safe environment for their pets, and individuals who work from home or attend school online. The frequent loss of power severely impacts the daily lives of many residents in our community.
Despite multiple complaints and inquiries to CenterPoint Energy, there has been no meaningful response or action taken to resolve the issue. The lack of reliable service has become a major concern, and it seems that CenterPoint Energy has failed to meet the required service standards for the area. Their inability to address this issue or provide a long-term solution is frustrating and unacceptable.
As a long-time resident of this neighborhood, I am deeply dissatisfied with the service provided by CenterPoint Energy and the ongoing power disruptions that continue to affect my neighbors and me. I respectfully request that the Better Business Bureau assist in addressing this issue by advocating for CenterPoint Energy to resolve the recurring outages and improve their service reliability in our neighborhood.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.Business Response

Thank you for the opportunity to discuss the customer's concerns. On February 24, 2025, Ethan *****, Service Consultant, reached out to Ms. ******** to address her concerns regarding recent service outages. During their conversation, Ethan listened as Ms. ******** voiced her concerns with the intermittent outages that had been affecting her home. Ethan took the opportunity to clarify the underlying causes of these momentary disruptions, ensuring that Ms. ******** felt informed and understood. He assured her that he would collaborate with the reliability team to conduct a thorough inspection of the circuit, aiming to mitigate any potential future outages. Ethan provided Ms. ******** with his direct line, encouraging her to reach out should she encounter any additional issues.

Centerpoint Energy is the only option for gas in our area. Centerpoint Energy switched over their billing system during the summer of 2024. We were not billed for the months of July, Aug and Sept until 10/11/24. On Oct. 11 we received 4 bills-$460.63 (July), $507.90 (Aug), $536.37 (Sept) and $560.34 (Oct). The bill we have been trying to dispute since 10/15/24 is the July bill ($460.63). This co-insides with the time the billing system was changed over. Clearly there were some glitches as we weren't billed for 3 months. I called the ************** number for Centerpoint (which is the only way you can speak to a representative of the company). I have made 8 phone calls between 10/15/24-1/23/25. We have had 5 cases submitted for review. Centerpoint tech to our home on 10/30/24. A gas leak was discovered in the connecting pipes by our water heater. **** said the leaks were minor and would not cause a ***** in usage. Each associate that filed the cases for us, agreed the gas leak in October didn't make any sense for the July bill *****. We have a gas furnace, water heater, stovetop and fireplace. Our frustration is that you can't speak to a person at Centerpoint that has any authority to make a decision regarding our issue. The associates are at a call center. They submit a case to "billing". Billing says gas leak caused high bill in July. Customer should pay. Billing does not take give any explanation why a gas leak found in October, would cause a ***** in July ($460.63) but then subsequent billing months are back to typical usage amounts. Aug ($47.28) Sept ($28.47) Oct ($23.97) Nov ($32.82) Dec ($77.68). October bill when gas leak was discovered is actually the lowest bill for the season. Our highest bill for the last 2 years was $125.65 in Feb 2023. We are being threatened with disconnect of service. I have paid all bills except July. I have names and case numbers for all calls.Business Response

In working with centerpoint energy it took 6 weeks to install gas lines to our new home. We paid an expedited rate to have the gas turned on the same day of install. The process is that two phone calls will be completed as the technicians are on the way to the install as someone over the age of 18 must be there for installation. No one called us and instead the technician claimed that the work couldn't be completed because they couldn't get in touch with us. I confirmed with the Tech Representative, ***** L, that he can see no call was ever made. As we paid additional funds to do a same day install ($45.00) and they instead created fraudulent claims that we had not follow instructions of answering to receive the service. Not only was this a lie, but it made us miss our valentines dinner reservation to get the other technicians out to install, creating significant emotional distress.Business Response

I have a gas bill for $204 and for the month of December it was $116 when my regular payments are within $45-$54 per month. I had contact in the past the ********* news channel due to their ridiculous billing. They had contact CenterPoint energy and the only thing they always say is that the bill goes up because of the cold weather. I get a call from the supervisor and they say their sorry and next month bill will be normal but i still have to pay the high amount and that's how they resolve the issue. since I contacted the news channel they had stop with the high billing until this past month they started again.Business Response

Thank you for contacting CenterPoint Energy. After carefully reviewing your account, we have verified that the charges are accurate. We acknowledge your concerns regarding the rise in your natural gas bill and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please note that the increase is a direct attribute to the usage amount during the billing period. See the additional information below for your reference.
? Average daily gas use: If your average daily use during the current billing period was greater than during the same period last year, your bill will be higher.
? The average daily temperature: If the average temperature during the current billing period was lower than during the same period last year, your bill will be higher.
? Natural gas appliances: If you added natural gas appliances to your home, or your existing ones are malfunctioning, your bill will be higher.
? Number of days in the billing period: The more days in a billing period, the higher the bill.Kind regards,
CenterPoint Energy

I had told them what the difference was if i only have a gas stove the rest of the appliances are electrical. Those are some of the reasons I'm not happy with the resolution. I wanted a gas line installed. Contacted CenterPoint in May 2024. **** ******* came and provided a quote on July 17, 2024. I mailed the payment the same day. My check was cashed on August 9, 2024. After the six-week period passed 9/11/2024, I called CenterPoint to check status. I was told someone would contact me. After no contact, I called again on 10/18/2024 and 10/29/2024. I was told that they couldn't do the installation until there was a plumber and I needed a permit. Due to frustration after waiting so long after my initial contact and having a previous permit in July, I requested my money back. After not receiving anything, I called again December 11, 2024 and was told it would be about a week before I received my money. When I still hadn't received anything, I called on 12/31/2024. I was told that it was pending and it would take a few weeks. I called on 1/23/2024 and was told the information was passed on to another department. Today (2/7/2024), I called and was told that I can't get my money back because this occurred in August 2024. At this point, I dont want the service. I just want my money back. *I was calling CenterPoint toll free number **************).
