Worst customer service of any utility co I dealt with in 40 years in Houston. Multiple attempts to draft monthly payments using a valid chase bank checking account resulted in “no account found”. Representative misinformed me that payment did go through then a month later I get a past due statement.
CenterPoint should set up an automatic monthly payment using a credit card rather than the current restrictions to checking or savings account: to CenterPoint CEO or whoever at CenterPoint makes these decisions: give me ONE good reason why automatic payment drafts can’t be set up with a credit card? It’s the 21st Century and CenterPoint needs to do a better job. I would love to switch to any competing utility co if and when available.
I’m forced to call every month to be able to charge a credit card: CenterPoint has the distinction of THE ONLY CO I’m required to call a third Party **** ****** to charge my monthly payment in 40 years in Houston, TX!!! CenterPoint executive need to realize many customers don’t use traditional savings or checking accounts and rely solely on credit cards for ALL their utilities. I’m just amazed by the INCOMPETENCE of the CenterPoint Executives and CFO I’m NOT providing customers the OPTION of credit card automatic payments despite the complaints of thousands if their customers: maybe you don’t care, don’t listen or just don’t have the will or resources to do it???? I know you all want to make sure stock holders are making money owning CNP stock but even if costly believe me you’ll save a lot in less calls to CenterPoint: imagine millions have to call EVERY month to make a credit card payment!!! I hope someone out there does listen and I love to see this change to the better!!!!

Thank you for allowing us to address your concern. We appreciate your feedback and value your suggestion. While we understand it is your choice to make payments via Credit or Debit card, our only option to make payments via auto-draft is to use a checking or savings account only.

      Respectfully,
      CenterPoint Energy

Worst company I’ve ever talked to on the phone. The person I talked to was rude and made me feel like I was a low life of a human. I’ve been having some issues with the online bill pay and them denying my payment, saying I wasn’t putting in the right info and went on to DENY me from paying with checks all together. Just from supposedly a typo when I tried paying online using my account and routing number. Saying how I was treated and talked to was bad, is an understatement. I’ve never put in the wrong checking and routing number in before and wanted to speak with someone regarding possible IT issues. I was denied hard and told it was all my fault and I have to go to the local Kroger to pay with cash now to keep my gas on. Wish I could give them 0 stars!

We reviewed your account and we first want to apologize for your interactions with our Customer Service agent/s. We appreciate your feedback and will review for any training opportunities. We have updated your account to where you will now be able to make check payments again. We would suggest that if you have any saved banking information on your online CenterPoint account, to review the bank account number to ensure it is accurate. We have also credited back the returned check fee of $25.00 that you were charged back in April as a courtesy.

My wife went to turn the hot water on (gas water heater) and it never got hot. So she immediately thinks the water heater isn’t working. So she checks it and the light was on. So she goes outside to the gas meter and it was turned off and locked. She immediately calls them and they claimed that we called and had it turned off. We hadn’t done any such a thing. So they tell her that they couldn’t get someone out because it was too late (4PM). So I get home, find out about all this and I call to report a gas leak to get someone out here. They come, no gas leak (obviously) and they say we hadn’t paid our bill according to their computer. They leave and I called the corporate number and turns out, there’s an appointment scheduled for 8AM in the morning to take the lock off. There’s absolutely no communication and I had to take a damn cold shower for nothing.

I have autopay for my electric service delivered by CenterPoint energy in Ohio. My June bill of $66.20 was deducted from 2 separate of my checking accounts, once on July 12, 2022 then again from the second account on July 13, 2022. I have tried to contact customer service on several occasions. It has been a week and I have had no response from them about this issue. Customer service is beyond bad!

We apologize you have not been able to get in contact with us regarding this issue. In review of the account, you are enrolled in our Auto Pay billing option. However on June 24, 2022, a payment for $66.20 was also scheduled via our e-Check payment option by you to be taken from your bank account on the due date of July 11, 2022. Because of this, two payments were taken from your bank account. Your account currently has a credit of $66.20. If you have any additional questions, please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-227-1376.

If I could give less than one star I would. Who makes commercials about be safe, stay away from power lines, your safety is our top priority... but then when you call because there is a branch touching a line that had broken off in a storm... well it's my problem and I should just deal with it. Apparently they don't maintain the poles away from the houses either.. those are covered in vines, trees, branches... and we are always losing power. What is the point of CenterPoint?
