They don't know what they're doing. They are one of the worst companies out there, and everyone is forced to use them. They have horrible customer service and terrible response time to fix issues. They have cost my business a lot of money with their mistakes.
I called Centerpoint to schedule a disconnect due to a demolition and they told me I have to schedule it with my provider. I called my provider to schedule the disconnect for Monday. Monday passes and still no disconnect. I called centerpoint to tell them no one has come out to disconnect and they tell me service is disconnected and I try to tell them that its not, my power is still on. They think I am stupid or something that I don't know if I have power or not. They tell me their system shows that it was disconnected and that I will have to submit another order to disconnect and it will take another 5-7 business days to have someone out there to disconnect. I had scheduled disconnection for Monday because I had paid my contractor and city to do pre-demolition inspections on Wednesday. Now my whole project is getting delayed because Centerpoint doesn't have a clue what they're doing.
This isn't even the first time something dumb has happened because of centerpoint.
I also had to different locations with multiple units where they crossed the meters, so Tenant A was getting billed for Tenant B and vice versa. It took 6 months for Centerpoint to correct the issue. And throughout the 6 months they kept telling me that I was wrong and there was no mistake on their part.
Centerpoint does not listen to customers problems and are stubborn.

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to address your concerns. We apologize for any inconvenience that you have experienced regarding your request to remove your electrical meter. When demolishing a property once your electric provider has canceled your services they will report the cancellation to CenterPoint Energy. Once that has been completed CNP can submit the request to remove the meter and roll back the lines. These types of requests are processed within five business days, weather and workload permitting. Our technician's workload plays a huge factor in the completion time frame along with the fact that they also deal with emergencies. Our records show that we have received your order and it has been assigned. If you have any questions regarding your electricity our customer service team at 800-332-7143 will be happy to assist you. Kindest regards, CenterPoint Energy.

We appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns. We apologize for any inconvenience that you have experienced regarding your gas service call. All gas emergencies for CenterPoint Energy customers are processed with the utmost urgency and our technicians are dispatched immediately. Upon reviewing the call the representative informed you that CenterPoint Energy only provided electricity to your home and not gas. The representative offered to research online to see if she could help you find out who your gas provider was, she asked probing questions regarding your utility providers. During the call, the agent also stated that you were able to leave your home as a safety precaution, but you would need to contact your gas company immediately. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to address your concerns. Kindest regards, CenterPoint Energy

Our lights went out today. I was notified by email that the area had electricity outage. I called and confirmed that CenterPoint knew that my address was out and we had someone come out within 2.5 hrs since the outage. Please remember that outside is in the 90s feeling like 100. Finally someone came out. We saw that they opened our box breaker outside then closed it. Maybe took them a no more than a minute. Then the man knocked on my door and leaned against my porch wall just to let us know it's not CenterPoint issue. We need to call an electrician. He offered 2 options, to take a number of his friend or call Centerpoint and they will send someone out but charge us $700. Oh and they can be here tomorrow. Then I asked him he can't call CenterPoint to schedule someone to come out. He said no that he doesn't do that. My frustration of waiting all this time was about to go sky high. He said that it took him some hours to get to our place and that he's really tired. He even showed me how dirty his pants were. I want to say this visit was very Unsatisfactory and unprofessional. I feel blown off because the non-electrician man was to tired to help. Why does Centerpoint just send out meter readers and not electricians as well, when they are not sure of the issue? The man also said it could be our tree that grew alittle and went thru wire underground and that's not his problem it's ours. I just told him to have a good day. While I was intentionally wanting to just stop talking to him so I can figure what electrician should I call. I had Centerpoint on the phone again and held for 32 mins until I decided to hang up. Centerpoint don't threatened your customers with fees they might have to pay, if you can't get anything done. Call a electrician, charge us a fee, fine. But you do it... we pay you.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our intention and allowing us the opportunity to address your concerns. We apologize for any inconvenience that you have experienced regarding your power outage.
Upon further review of your account, we do show that the technician documented that repairs were needed to your underground service lines. CenterPoint Energy delivers the electricity within our region, but we are unable to make repairs to customer-related equipment. CenterPoint technicians are not electricians. We do offer an optional temporary solution called a "Temporary Bypass" that will allow a customer to have temporary power until they can get a licensed electrician to their property. However, there is a monthly flat fee associated with this service which is $476.00. If you have any questions regarding the temporary bypass process our customer service team will be more than happy to assist you at 800-332-7143.

Spouse and I had Covid and out of work for a week, money got kind of tight and we got shut off over $30. I’m 17 weeks pregnant and haven’t been able to cook or take a warm shower. I have to pay $100 deposit, so a $30 bill turned into $130. I have never heard of a utility company shutting you off over such a small bill in that little of a time frame. Absolutely insane.

They operate like the Gestopo! I have a had center point come out 2 times over the last 2 years.

I had a Generac Generator installed and they sent Greg out to replace my old meter. He asked if you could go up stairs and relight my 2 hot water heaters, I of course said yes, at which time
he proceeded to tell me as he was walking out the door that he had turned down my hot water heaters so they did not even get hot, because and I quote, some OLD DRUNK LADY SUED THEM FOR OVER A million dollars. I said, please go back up and turn them up I am not an old drunk lady! He would not do it. I had to call a plumber out because we were having to take luke warm showers because of Center Point turning my hot water heater so low to probably 85 degrees. 8/15/22 I called because another Center Point person came out because one of their surveyors said I had a leak. A week later CP came out fixed the leak and once again we to the attic and proceeded to turn down my hot water heaters to luke warm AGAIN. I called 8/15/22 and told the person I spoke with the leak was fixed but she was hell bent on sending someone out. Greg came out and started a yelling match with me, I said there was NO leak it was fixed I just needed my Hot Water heaters turned back up and he said if I didn't go back in the house he would TAKE my meter and leave. I said this is not Russia! I told him we were closing on a house and had to leave and he said he didn't care. He started the story about them getting sued again and I said NOT MY ISSUE. He then went took about 15 minutes at my meter and then came back in and turned both down again! He then went to his truck, but once I left he went to my electric meter and did something, I don't know what, it is on my camera's. What kind of company is this???? I will again have to call a plumber and I will see if we can find out what he did? I am horrified that in American a company we pay hundreds of Thousands of Dollars treat their customers like this!

This is easily one of the worst utility companies I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I built a new home and the process of getting the new gas line ran and a meter installation has been an utter nightmare.

I was told that they'll install the line and meter within two weeks before our official move-in date. I tried to schedule it more in advance and they wouldn't. We've been in our home now for nearly two (2) months and still no service.

I've had the run-around by their 'Business' or 'Construction' department, their 'Installation' department and every corresponding representative. I've never received a call back from any representative, no matter the title, not once. Every problem is always someone else's or some other department's fault, and no one knows anything.

I was told two weeks for installation (including meter) in late June/ early July, was told two weeks, two weeks after that. I was told within the next two days after that and then by Friday at 5PM after that (08/05/2022). I've now been told that I'm marked as 'Low Priority' behind other new installations and gas leaks.

Today (08/08/2022) I was told that it may be today or tomorrow, and after subsequently speaking with a supervisor was told I would be called back shortly with a definite install date/time. That was 3 hours ago and still no contact, yet again.

At this point, the company's devotion to inattentiveness, disrespect and disregard feel like direct discrimination against me personally. It's quite shocking and frustrating. I'm just glad they get to go home to a home-cooked meal, dry clothes, and a hot shower.

Every time I call, these representatives are shocked that I haven't been contacted. This company's customer service is laughable. Companies like this are truly fortunate that they have a monopoly on Texas natural gas energy or they'd most certainly be out of business.

If you have an option, avoid this company at all cost.

Center Point Energy Is The Worst Gas Company Period!!! I was without gas services for 5 days total < I took off work / made an appointment for a tech to come out to restore service on a Monday morning by noon the tech hadn’t shown up, I CS < Im told don’t worry my time frame is 8-5. But By 4pm still no technician so I CS again this time rep says the time frame is 8am - 8pm hmmm Something doesn’t add up so I wait until 4:45pm and I call CS since I’m getting worried that the technician still hadn’t called or shown up / now told that the Technician can show up anytime until 11pm and like a fool I stayed up and NEVER SHOWED UP! First thing the next morning once again < I call in to work < Now mind you I’m a single Mom with 2 Kids and I can’t afford to miss 2 days of work / nor can I afford to be w/o gas or hot water for 5 days but here we are… I start calling Centerpoint trying to find out why the tech didn’t show And immediately I start getting the same BS Apparently the tech. had an emergency the day before and he just decided to abandoned my work order. And now my order has been floating around in La La land waiting for another tech to pick it up. By this time it’s Noon the next day… I’ve already spoken to 5/6 representatives and they all state that they talk to dispatch and a tech is coming but they don’t have a time frame and they can’t tell me anything else / sounds like the same bullshit from the day before. It’s now 4pm Central Time & I STILL have no gas / no hot water for 6 days now !!! they don’t care about their customers. And their Technicians have no accountability to their superiors nor to their customers. If I ditched my customer the day before he/ she would be the first one on my list the next day *** ********* ******* **** ** !! BTW it’s the same pathetic technician that has my job open today and he can obviously see it’s still open…CENTERPOINT ENERGY YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THE SUBSTANDARD CUSTOMER SERVICE YOUR PROVIDING TO CUSTOMERS !!!

Thank you for allowing us to address this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this situation has caused. Our records indicate your husband called to report a gas leak on 07/22/2022. After the tech arrived at the home to check for a gas leak, the gas was turned off per safety guidelines due to an adult 18+ not being available. On 07/25/2022, the customer called to have the services reconnected. The customer's gas was restored on 07/26/2022.

      Kindest regards,
