Ordered shed to be built on site on July 19, 2023. Made a deposit of $3850 on that date with an estimated build date of October 19, 2023. This date has been pushed out 4 times. I requested a refund on February 27, 2024 which I have not received. I have given a reasonable amount of time and emailed asking about refund about every 3 weeks. A & L Sheds says refunds are 30+ days out, but my only answer is they are working on refunds and will let me know. This is very unprofessional and disrespectful to consumers. Against the law?

In March 2023, I searched online ******** for a reasonably-priced shed company and contracted with A&L Sheds to build an 8x10 shed on my property for $3,090 and gave them a 50% deposit ***** payment of $1,545 on March 22, 2023) so construction could begin on May 23, 2023 as scheduled. Since then they have informed me that my project has been delayed by, in most cases, a week or a month. They have repeated that same or similar excuse as the following excerpt from their June 7, 2023 e-mail to me explaining the delay:"We cannot say thank you enough for your kindness and patience during this time of our owner/lead installer, Santiagos broken ankle/surgery and being behind in our schedule due to it We went over the schedule in depth in the order that you were bookedand wanted to give you a better transparency update they are still working hard to play catch up but have a ways to go. We are having to push customers back an additional 2 months farther than expected to continue to get caught up. Just know that due to us playing catch up we are not scheduling new builds until the fall, so no one is jumping ahead of yours. I will put your new start date on August 23rd and reach back out to you in a month to confirm again. We are aware that with our delays it has also put a kink in your schedule, so for every week that you were delayed from your original date, we will deduct $50 per week from your final payment or add upgrades that equivalent the same amount. If you are not able to wait until your build date, we definitely understand that as well and a refund will be processed which takes normally around 7 to 15 business days, however due to more than usual refunds being processed from the delay it could take ***** business days. Please let us know if you have any questions.I requested a refund in January 2024 but they just keep giving the same response, we are working on it.

I contacted A&L in the Spring of 2023 via ******** Messenger and put a deposit on a shed June 7 2023. I was told my build date was Sept, 7 2023. The build date(s) are continually moved back without any guarantee of the build ever happening. I was told, over the phone and email as well, that the company would issue refunds to those who could not wait any longer. Considering the complaints filed, I believe A&L Sheds has no intention to refund anyone's deposit. There have already been multiple complaints filed by others that have been defrauded. I am another victim.

**BUYER BEWARE** I put a down payment at the beginning March 2023 for a shed to be built on May 3, 2023. A few weeks before my schedule build I get an email about how Santiago was hurt, they would have to reschedule my build and also offer a $50 discount for every week that my build was delayed. After 33 weeks of rescheduling and hearing excuse after excuse about how the company fell behind because of Santiago's injury, I asked for a refund. It is now going on two months since I asked for a refund. Now its the same old song but now with my refund. I've been going in circles with Amanda and the rest of the A&L Shed crew about not receiving my refund. I now come on here to file a complaint only to see a complaint from 2022 about this company taking people's hard earned money and not building what the customer asked. So the excuse about the company falling behind because of Santiago's injury seems fishy and being used as a crutch to continue misleading people and taking their hard earned money.

Good evening,  we have discussed many times the circumstances of your delay.  We typically do not do refunds, but under the circumstances with my husband's ankle injury, and his inability to get to all the builds, we have of course made exceptions to this rule.  We have been awaiting our reserve funds to be released so that we may then refund. I have provided numerous documents to prove this and we have numerous references that can account for the fact that we are not a scam.  I am working through the refunds currently and will have yours completed soon.  Have a great night.

    Business Response

    Date: 02/05/2024

We have plenty of references that can be provided.  The deposits are non-refundable, and never meant to be refunded.  However, we are refunding people anyway.  Having your friends post fake reviews, pages, and everything else you are doing to slander our business, will not push you ahead of anyone else as far as refunds go.  I am processing them and will advise when we get to yours.

I ordered and paid a 50% deposit to A&L Sheds on May 28, 2023. To date they have still failed to install the shed. A&L Sheds and continuously given me excuses and delayed the scheduled install date. A month ago I demanded my deposit money be refunded which they agreed but have now also continuously delayed the date the refund will be processed. The company is a fraud and ponzi scheme and I am sure other customers are being treated the same way.

A&L Sheds has continued to make false promises and lies about both the original build date and now processing the refund. As you will note on the BBB website there are numerous similar complaints dating back several years.  A&L has established a clear pattern of accepting client's deposits and then continually postponing their service dates.

I paid A&L sheds a 50% deposit, $1,950, in MAY 2023!   My original build date was for August.  Then is was repeatedly postponed from August to Sepetmeber, then October, then November and then on December 14, 2023 it was postponed 4th time to January 22nd.   That is when I requested a refund.  A&L immediately agreed to process my refund but then the lies and postponement started again.  My refund was to be paid on January 5th, then postponed to January 22nd, then to January 29th.

I HAVE STILL NOT RECEIVED ANY REFUND and it mid-February already!!

    Regards,

    Steven *******

I cancelled my build on November 1st, 2023. I stated in text, I would need to cancel the build and get a full refund of $10, 263.00, if the build ran into December, 2023. The last scheduled date you set me up with was on 11/13/23 and I signed up for the build in December 2022. Almost an entire year and still NO complete build. I considered cancelling the build because you said it takes 2-3 weeks time to complete and with that 2-3 weeks it would run into December and during the time of our family holiday vacation this does not allow anyone to be home at that time and the history of you pushing me back further every week since January 21, 2022. Since I have put my deposit down in December of 2022 and our first and original scheduled date of 1/21/2023, it has been close to a year. In June 2023, you had a crew come out and build a foundation with a scheduled date to have them come back and finish the build within 2 weeks. The crew never came back out and since then the foundation has warped with twisted boards from sitting in the high heat and rainy days. The foundation would have had to be completely re-done to complete a build but is now an abandoned job site from June 2023. You have offered me on several occasions to have my full refund if we could not wait for our build. After almost a year waiting, I could not wait any longer. I DEMAND the full refund as you stated, I have the rights to. I understand it takes 20 business days according to your own policy and procedures to receive my full refund of $10,263.00 and I have been patiently waiting since November 1, 2023 for the refund that has been well over that 20 day mark with still no refund at this time. I am eagerly in need for my refund for my mother.

Since you are not signing for certified letters to be delivered and leaving them at the post office, this is a PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT as advised by my attorney that I am demanding the FULL refund of $10, 263.00 or legal action will be taken against you.

    A & L Shed Timeline.
    Money Owed to me: $20,558.21

Sep 11, 2022: I made first payment to A&L Sheds
Dec 22, 2022: I received building permit from Waller county.
May 22, 2023: A&L Sheds came out for the first time, after months of telling us “we are coming out next week or two”. They dug 7 of the 23 hole needed for foundation. All 7 holes were in the wrong spot and wrong size. Even though I gave them “engineered foundation plans” that I payed a civil engineer to design. Designs were required by the county.
    June 12, 2023: Cancelled Build.
June 20,2023: Told an estimate of 2 weeks for refund.
July 5, 2023: A&L Shed made one and only payment of $201.79 to us.

Sep 12, 2023: Given another estimate of 3 weeks for them to pay us our money.

Nov 8, 2023: Told maybe we would get money by Thanksgiving.

Dec 12 2023: last contact from them was Nov 8 2023.

This complaint is in reference to a build contracted with the mother of the person submitting complaint.  I had never spoken to the daughter until they cancelled on June 20th.   We had contracted to do (2) 20x60 builds for them in September.  Then, they needed to postpone multiple times while they were waiting on plans and waiting on permitting.  They finally received permits on December 22, 2022 as stated.  My husband, co-owner, and main builder was injured January 5th and then subsequent reconstructive surgery was done on January 23, 2023.  His heal time was extended multiple times resulting in all of our builds to be rescheduled multiple times.  Finally he was released by his surgeons to start walking mid May.

In regards to the "7 holes" that were dug wrong;  these are not even on the work order that was contracted.  This was something added later, once they received the permitting.   Therefore, was not even paid for either.  However, we still opted to add this, as we have built a previous cabin for this same customer previously.  We typically build our homes on piers 6ft apart.  The permit plans only required 10ft apart.  The crew that was there, although they did have the plans, dug the holes per our standards, by accident.  When this was noticed by the customer, she called me and let me know that the son-in-law had offered to do all of the holes since he had equipment to do so.  This was completed on June 6th.  They then cancelled on June 12th.

The refunds have been difficult to process, and I have explained and apologized multiple times.  Although I apologize about the wait, these are non-refundable deposits that we have agreed to refund.  We will have the refund completed as soon as we can.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.

We are not satisfied with the response from A&L Sheds. While A&L Sheds tries to explain why they haven’t refunded the over $20,000 paid by me and my husband, despite providing little to no work toward constructing the shed, they admit that they promised the refund and have failed to actually pay it. This is very concerning to us considering they’ve held our money over a year, and six months after first promising the refund.

We paid this money to A&L Sheds, not my mother. My mother also, separately, put down a similar deposit with no shed. A&L Sheds has taken roughly $40,760 combined from us and my mother. My mother may submit a separate dispute with the BBB, but this present dispute is between my husband and I and A&L Sheds. Again, we paid the funds to A&L Sheds and we are the party harmed by their failure to return the funds.

We made this payment in September 2022. Even if A&L Sheds is somehow excused from performing until we obtained the permit in December 2022, A&L Sheds has still held our money for a year, despite admitting they promised the refund.

In conclusion, we are very concerned that A&L Sheds has kept over $20,000 for over a year without providing any services. The fact that they admit owing the refund, yet make excuses that the refund is “difficult to process” is disturbing. We are concerned A&L Sheds has used the funds for other expenses, unrelated to the construction of our shed.

Please advise of the next step or escalation in this process.

    Regards,

    Haley ******
