1 starIt nearly felt as if they wanted to steal our identities in order to verify that we werent fraudulent. Took forever for them to understand what housing allowance even was, we ended up needing them to talk to our actual bank representatives to verify us. It is ridiculous the way they invade our privacy and wouldnt even take a 1040 form without needing us to show them the *** website transcript of our 1040 as well. This is unacceptable, they spam my phone and email as if I owed them money. I never want to see this company again on the face of the earth.Review fromSamuel H

1 starI normally dont leave reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience due to the level of frustration and privacy concerns Ive encountered with ApproveShield.I applied to lease an apartment and was referred to this company for verification. Ive been through similar processes with other leasing companies before, but ApproveShield has crossed the line. What started as a standard screening quickly turned into what feels like an invasion of privacy. Its been over two weeks, and Ive already submitted everything they asked for: proof of income, employment, bank statements, and even a rental ledger. Despite all this, I continue to be asked for more and more sensitive personal information. Most recently, I was told to reach out to every utility company *** used to obtain letters of good standingwhich, frankly, feels excessive and unnecessary. This process has become incredibly stressful. I have no prior evictions, and I always pay my rent on time. Yet Im being made to feel like Im not going to be approved no matter what I provide. At this point, I honestly wonder what else they could possibly ask formy blood type? There must be some legal boundaries when it comes to tenant screening, and this feels like a clear overreach. Because of this experience, I will not rent from any property management company that uses ApproveShield.Review fromLexi D

1 starIm in the middle of a review right now (day 4) and this has been the most difficult company to work with. I get complying with lease rules, but sometimes its not always so black and white for people. When trying to explain my situation with my analyst, I feel like Im talking to brick wall. I think this 3rd party help is smart for apartments to use, I just wish they would be more understanding and lenient on small things. I ended up having to call the apartment that Im applying for tell them the situation in hopes that they can help. Im still having hope that things will get approved, but man what a pain this has been.Review fromLaritka S

1 starI recently applied to a property and I submitted all documents requested. I was told I had a deadline which I met. Im a student and I uploaded my awards letter. I work two jobs uploaded stubs. I got a denial saying Unverified Information Employment, Unverified Information Income, and Unverified Information Identification. When all information is CLEARLY on my documents. Basically no verifying could have been done. My employments and schooling is literally listed online AND each payout is on my bank statement. ADP as well for one of my stubs has my information. So how is none of this unverified? I submitted everything 5/9 and was denied 5/12. A lot of apartments is using Approve Shield and that needs to be reconsidered. I started a dispute. Sadly I was told it can take up to 30 days.Review fromAaron S

1 starThese 5-star reviews for ApproveShield have to fakes posted by the company itself. Our bank laughed out loud at the idea of having a three-way call to reveal our secret bank account answers and refused to do it. If someone tells you they simply uploaded documents manually, that is not true. We jumped through hoops to get letters of account certification from our banks and sent those after thabnks refused the ridiculous requirement of having a three-way call with an unknown third party, which is utterly ************* partner and I are retired from government jobs and have well above the financial threshholds required to rent a luxury aprtment in **********, D.C., no criminal backgrounds and we gave them letters verifying our retirement funds and amounts and bank statements showing those monthly direct deposit amounts... and these shysters STILL REFUSED TO APPROVE US.Also, anyone that tells you they did the process in less than 5 business days is making it up. ApproveShield sends a daily text reminding you that it takes no fewer than 5 business days to complete the application process and hitting you up for an extra $99 to "turbo" the ********** wasn't until we passed the 5-day waiting period that they hit us with the stupid requirement for a three-way call with the bank. Even when we agreed to do that, ApproveShield rejected us to the leasing office.I will NEVER rent from a property that uses these scam-artists and I will blast them every chance I get if it comes up in conversation. If you want to believe six or seven (probably fake) 5-star reviews versus more than 40 1-star reviews blasting this c*** company, don't say you weren't warned.Review fromOumunique K

5 starsI wanted to leave a review of I and my husbands recent experience with approve shield. The negative comments had me nervous but our experience was smooth. They are extremely thorough but we didnt mind because we understand that the uptick in scammers and people using fake social security numbers (I didnt even know that was possible) to get into apartment complexes has been on the rise especially in the ******* area. We provided all documentation and had to give access to our bank and statements, proof of our jobs, I was able to connect mine directly through approve shields site but my husbands company wouldnt allow it so he had to manually upload pay stubs and he gave access to his bank account to show proof of deposits. If you are uncomfortable with this, you can just upload statements manually. They contacted us if they needed anything and getting in contact with them was a breeze. I had one question verifying my identity and they were very helpful. I have to say that I think this company is needed, especially since you have so many people trying to squeeze their way into places they shouldnt, making it hard for fellow neighbors and landlords. My husband is a landlord himself and he completely understands and will probably use approve shield in the future to screen future residents. If all of your paper work is legit, you should be fine. It took 3 days for them to send our info to our apartment complex and 4 days for us to get approved.Review fromRubin S

1 starI am extremely dissatisfied with the customer service at **********************. Every time I contact them, there is never a supervisor available to address concerns, making it impossible to escalate issues. Their representatives are unhelpful, and the overall support experience is frustrating.Additionally, the fact that customers must wait an extra 30 days for a dispute resolution is unacceptable. This delay causes extreme inconvenience, especially when money has already been spent on deposits and other expenses. Approve Shields slow and inefficient process leaves customers in difficult situations without timely resolutions. On top of that, their employment verification process is flawed. If a payroll system is not an option, they do not make any effort to contact the applicant or their employer for clarification. Instead, they automatically flag it as fraud without proper investigation. This system is unfair and can wrongly impact someones ability to secure housing.Review fromTJ P

1 star***** at Approve Shield was the analyst that completed my verification. Shes lazy and doesnt do her job. She texted me stating I make $921 per month less than what the apartment requires. I told her it was not possible because the rent is $1745 and 3x that for the year is only $62,820. HOW AM I SHORT IF MY INCOME IS $98k? She asked me could I deposit $11,043 by the following day. Thats unrealistic for some ppl so I think its a ridiculous request but, luckily for me, I TOLD HER VIA TEXT THAT I COULD although that shouldnt be necessary !! We verbally spoke and she told me she was able to verify both places of employment (after a 35min hold) and that everything was good on my end. She VERBATIM said NOTHING ELSE IS REQUIRED and she was submitting it to the apartment. She lied. She submitted the same BS to apartment complex stating my second job couldnt be verified bc the address on the company site didnt match the address in the paperwork and she couldnt reach HR. She could have told ME that so I could ensure she spoke with someone considering, Im AT work !! The physical address to the local building doesnt always match the address to the corporate office so the address reason is just stupid. Telling me nothing else was required opposed to telling me to go ahead and make the deposit was also just LAZY on her end. Im out of $450 and its not even the money that Im mad about but the principle. I refuse to let this go. All the calls are recorded so, Ill be OTP bright and early Monday AM. Somebody is going to fix this situation or refund my fees. Ill gladly take it to court because a denial should have NEVER happened when everything submitted CAN be proven and whatever concerns could have been promptly rectified had I not been lied to.
