I entered the business and wanted to upgrade my car as I read their was blizzards and the car I chose was not great for that. The lady behind the desk told me I can do a special for you for *** for 300 and deposit. It sounded great. I thought she charged me 700 for the week was with deposit. But no from 300 they took the full 700+ in fees and other fees which i had no idea about and was not told about. I am on *** and this really wrecked my budget even till now as I receive 900 a month. This was in the **** location near the airport via shuttle. I cannot see the invoice on expedia. It was *** x7 I am sure. I did not report it till now as I am disabled with bad ptsd and it is hard for me to reach out.Business Response

Rented car for 6 days. Got insurance from expedia where I booked car I explained this at time of car pick up. Agent then told me I had to sign for that insurance as it's mandatory and had me initial. Hard to read as it's in their screen. They then charged me after I returned car for $106 for supplemental insurance. On top of the supplemental insurance I pre purchased through expedia when paying for the car. I contacted Nu Car and they were less than helpful. Reading reviews this happens fairly often.Initial Complaint

I rented a car from Nu car rental in *********** from 4/2-4/6. I paid for this car rental in advance, and expected to pay a deposit and sign paperwork. I did not elect to add any additional insurance or liability as I am covered by my insurance and additionally, my travel credit card offers insurance for rentals. Kade (or ******* as it is on my paperwork) was the worker who assisted me. Kade was very friendly and noticed my birthday was the next day, to which he proceeded to engage with me in conversation about my travel plans, etc. as he was doing this, Kade began to tell me about the liability insurance, loss damage, and roadside assistance that came with my rental. Kade repeatedly said ," Don't worry about anything, we've got you covered". Kade continued to converse with me and form a connection that 1. Kept me distracted and 2. Made me feel like I could trust him. When I began to initial paperwork, the computer screen didn't completely show me the details of what I was signing, and unfortunately, I was unaware that I was electing to ADD on these SERVICES that I was never OFFERED OR TOLD THEY WERE OPTIONAL. Had Kade actually explained to me that I was agreeing to add an extra $342 to my already paid rental that I am already covered in, I would have NEVER agreed. He told me these things were INCLUDED. On 4/5 I realized my charge was way high and I called NU car rentals thinking I was charged twice on accident. It was here that I was informed I elected to add these services. I was in shock. These people are professional crooks. Further, upon returning my rental car I was charged an additional $80 for a smoke smell. I DO NOT SMOKE AND NEVER HAVE. These people are looking to scam in any way they can. As per several other complaints, I am not the only one. This is what these people do. This place needs to be shut down asap.Initial Complaint

I am writing to formally document a concerning experience I had with NU Car Rentals, booked through T-Mobile Travel. Upon arrival at the rental location, I interacted with a representative named ********* via an on-screen interface. He requested proof of insurance, which I providedincluding my insurance card and declaration page outlining my coverage limits.Despite confirming I had full coverage, ********* insisted I purchase additional liability insurance for $60, claiming my existing policy did not meet South Carolinas**requirements. I explicitly declined, as my coverage was sufficient. After placing me on hold to consult a manager,he returned and stated that the fee could be reduced to $40 as a "minimum." When I asked for written proof of this requirement, he assured me he would provide it.However, during the transaction, I was directed to a signature box without any visible contract termsonly to receive the emailed agreement 10 minutes later, which falsely stated I had opted into the additional coverage for $40. This is blatantly untrue; I was misled into signing under false pretenses.Upon contacting customer service, representative Auri informed me that refunds were impossible, even after I explained the fraudulent nature of the charge. I emphasized that this practice is illegal (deceptive sales) and stated my intent to report it to the ************************ (***).This is illegal, and if you mislead someone into signing something, then the sale isn't valid. I was lied to a made to belive my insurance was no adequate.Initial Complaint

I purchased the car rental from NU Car Rentals via Priceline for $175.29. When I arrived at NU Rental I confirmed with the *** I was Only buying the toll pass for $11.99 extra & Nothing else was added. Additionally, Nu Car Rental made me put a $593.12 deposit down for the rental & informed me 100% of the deposit will be back on my card after the rental. After returning the rental & following up about my deposit being returned... ************* then stated they are charging me an additional $293.12 & stated I added rental coverage on the rental vehicle (Which I did Not Approve of or Ask for) so they are only going to be returning about $300 dollars after confirming I would get the entire deposit back. I've explained this to NU Car Rentals that I never requested to add **************** company is completely ignoring my outreach & stating I did ask to add coverage which is completely false. This is Not the first time renters have had this issue with NU Car ************* is blatant theft/fraud & predatory behavior. Additionally, the Toll Pass I purchased for $11.99 suddently increased to $60+ dollars which is again unethical & to my understanding is illegal. My Goal = I want NU Car Rentals to refund me the entire deposit of $593.12 as this was promised by the NU Car Rentals *** I was working with.Initial Complaint

Booked a rental car through credit card travel department on January 12, 2025 for $236.26. Upon arrival on March 26, 2025, the rental company was not actually located at the ***************. But a shuttle in a back visitor lot took us to a location 10 min away, plus shuttle wait time. Our shuttle drive was not professional. The kid at the counter advised of fees and a $300 hold charge. I was never asked about insurance or additional services like gas. I was TOLD of charges. asked to sign a screen with tiny print. Even after I said repeatedly that I booked in advance and paid in full, Did not need extra coverages as I provided my insurance info online for preregistration. I thought I was signing to decline coverages and agree to be only driver and typical rental agreement. I was charged $545.84 ON TOP OF THE 236. And told I would be refunded upon return. I got emails asking to extend my rental, replied saying NO and I have been charged additional fees I did not want. They refunded me the hold and a tiny portion of one day of extra fees. Repeated emails saying I signed a doc and won't be refunded any more. So end of day, I paid $236.26 PLUS $202.54 for a 31 hr car rental that we drove 70 miles. The business practices are fraudulent, corrupt, scams.Initial Complaint

We were quoted $****** for a rental car, purchased through *********** Rewards through this company. On arrival, we were handed a bill for ****** in addition to the $****** that was already paid for prior. The company said it was required to have tolls included, either through them or an additional higher cost after the fact, so that was added to the bill in addition to the underage driver fee. When the bill was handed over, the salesman started other conversation, asking questions to our group that we believe distracted in part to us as we were completing the purchase. After going to the car and not leaving the shop, we were looking at the bill and incredibly confused as to if this was a deposit or additional charges on top of the fee we were quoted. We went back into the building where the salesman explained that we would be returned the ****** fee paid on line, in addition to $300 from the bill. The added 150 came from the highlighted sheet, attached, for the underage driving fee and the tolls. When we returned the car this morning, march 26th, no body was in person and afterwords, only ****** was returned. We called and were told the person at the desk was lying at that 300 would not be returned to us and hung up the phone promptly. In addition, we called again as no bill was issued for the final charges and were hung up with as soon as we reported the record number. We believe these are fraudulent charges, that we were mislead, and should be reissued at minimum the 300. We have paid nearly 400 more than we were originally quoted and agreed to.Initial Complaint

In mid February I scheduled a rental vehicle through **************** Travel for NU car rental in ******. The total for this came out to $267.67. I agreed to this to set up the rental agreement. When I landed in ****** in late February I did not have much time and needed to pick up the rental vehicle and leave quickly. They did recommend a $39.96 charge total (not per day but total) of roadside/ and full coverage. They also recommended a service where they would fill up my vehicle when I bring it back for $60.85. I was explained no other extra charges or uncharges.Without taxes this would bring my total up to $328.52. When I received my bill while picking up the vehicle it first was for over $1000 but if I brought it back without any issues it would be brought down to $758.50. I was still in a rush and had already initialed everything though these extra charges had not been explained to me. Later when I had time I emailed the company to explain I did not have time to discuss the extra charges at the time, and did not understand where the extra $490.83 had come from. They told me the only time to argue the payments was when I was picking up the vehicle and that they would not be refunding me any money. Sadly I did not look up reviews on this place since I planned it through **************** but this seems like a scam to me.Initial Complaint

This company conducts business in a manner which is indicative of a SCAM operation. They pick you up from the airport then your offsite at their facility. Once there, there are NO employees and are only directed to a room where they have you close the door and interact with a person on a computer screen. This sound drops out often and hard to understand/hear, also found out later that he door was actually locked which is a violation of FIRE CODE.SCAM FLAG#1 Once in the room, they then start to obtain information on items needed for car rental - but the fail to actually have you the ability to see the contract your signing. They "read" you the clause and then have you sign an electronic signature block, at no time do you actually get to read/observe the document which you are signing.SCAM FLAG#2 They then proceed to process payments, this was pre-paid through Priceline yet they demand a 500$ hold on a credit card and I only had a debit card they they charged me an additional $79.00 to process that hold. They should know how to run as a credit card and not a debit card - its a **** card, I use it as a credit card all the time when doing repairs on my personal vehicle in ******SCAM FLAG#3 Obtained the car and leave on afternoon of Feb18, return car prior to noon on 21Feb. One person there claims to be an employee -no company name, name tag and appears to not even speak English. There is only normal use to the vehicle, floor mats have some pine needles and some sand yet they said this was VERY DIRTY. Provided no checklist of what they are looking over nor gave a detail on what they meant by this wording. We shook out the car mats, asked the non-English speaking employee if that was good. They still charged $150 cleaning fee. This care was re-rented before we even left on the shuttle back to the airport. It was not "VERY DIRTY" but normal use. ALL car rentals vacuum/wash off before re-renting.Will never use this company again, so much more details call for them.Initial Complaint

This company fraudulently added additional services, three additional insurance charges that were not explained or agreed upon to my bill for a rental car. When I questioned the amount they stated it was due to the deposit which was a lie. I reached out to their customer service the next day at my destination via phone and email and they refused to do anything. Rental duration: 2/16/25 thru 2/22/25.Original bill: $366.41 (online booking)Added AWD: $149.80 (I agreed to this)Total amount they charged: $1,144.74
