When signing a lease with the appartment ********* at ************, located at *****************************************************, we are required to sign an addendum that allows a third party company named, RentPlus, to add a charge to our account monthly for credit reporting. We are then required to go to their website and manually opt out of this charge. After opting out once they removed the charge for a couple months and then put the charge back on my rent without my knowledge. When attempting to opt out again their website tells me I already have opted out, yet I continue to get charged. When I called to get a refund all they would refund me is on month's worth, meanwhile they have been charging me for half a year.Business Response

While I appreciate the refund Im not satisfied. Im requesting the BBB look into this company. The whole process of being deceitfully opted in to the charge with a complicated method of opting out is inherently unethical, additionally this is one of the cheaper apartments in the area which makes this practice even more predatory. The process of me having to opt out and still be charged and then call requesting refund and being denied is unacceptable. Im requesting the BBB look into how many other people have been falsely charged and had money withheld.

My apartment complex had enrolled me in Rent Plus last year and they have been charging my renters account without my permission. There was no mention of this when I signed my lease last year. I am a month ahead on my rent and they have been paying the charge using that. I had no contract with Rent Plus and no desire for there service. The Apartment disclosed this so called add-on service this year and I cancelled immediately. I want my money back from last year. A third party has no right to sign me up for a service, then expect me to pay for it. This practice has to be illegal in some way.Business Response

I canceled Rent Plus a couple months ago have confirmation of that cancellation and yet Im still being charged. I have emailed with no resolution and I cant get a human on the phone. On November 27th, 2024 I signed a lease contract with ***************** LoHi for $3,175/month. This is my 3rd renewal lease with this property. For the first time it was mandatory I sign a lease addendum to enroll with a credit reporting third party, RentPlus by Rent Dynamics. I did not and do not want this service. I asked Modera LoHi to tell me exactly what of my personal information has been sold. They will not respond. I also asked Rent Dynamics to delete all personal information given to them. They ignored my request. Through ****** searching, it appears RentPlus is known for unprofessional, suspected to be illegal, business practices. My apartment company added a $8.95 monthly fee for services of Rent Dynamics. I did not request those services, but I was allowed to cancel the service after a signed my lease. I cancelled the service immediately after signing the lease. Rent Dynamics continued to bill me after it was cancelled. I see you self cancelled the service on June 4th, however your roommate did not cancel their service until our support team was contacted on July 2nd. Very upset that I was unknowingly enrolled in this rentplus program that I did not agree to. Was most likely hidden in my lease renewal and upon calling my leasing office they told me too bad. Completely unethical on you to work behind tenants backs with leasing companies to enroll residents without their knowledge and then to charge them $14.95 a month for the service.
