I need to file a BBB complaint against Strayer University.I'm incredibly unhappy and disappointed with my recent experience, and am forced to withdrawal from proceeding with my degree through Strayer due to lack on communication and compassion for the students.I experienced severe hardship during the Fall 2022 Quarter. My husbands grandfather was diagnosed with rapidly progressing lung cancer and did not have long to live. My husband and I travelled weekly from South Lake Tahoe, CA to Stockton, CA to assist with his grandfathers needs in his last of days. During this time I kept my professor updated in regards to my situation- and emailed the professor on October 29th, 2022 letting him know my husband's grandfather had passed- that I was still attempting to do my best in the class, but that I would unfortunately need to submit some work late. The professor responded with a very discouraging email back simply stating he would not grade late work. This of course caused me to drop immediately to a D in the class. Then when midterms came around- I received a 45/250 on my midterm due to using GAAP accounting jargon- the professor claimed I plagiarized when there is absolutely no other way to phrase the policies and procedures regarding GAAP. I absolutely feel I had been set up for failure since my first semester here at Strayer- but was determined to proceed and continue with my degree pursuit through Strayer. Last quarter- Winter 2023- was an exact opposite experience from my first here. I had an amazing time in my Quantitative Methods course, and passed with flying colors and obtained an A. Unfortunately due to completely failing my first quarter- I went from being on a Warning status to Suspended from receiving any financial aid. I was then directed to start an appeal regarding financial aid. I provided documentation and information about what lead to me having such a low GPA- and was told not to include my issues with professor as a reason for my standing, but rather to focus solely on my husbands grandfather passing- which I thought was very odd to be asked to omit my issues with professor as that is what absolutely let to me failing and my GPA becoming unsatisfactory. I complied with the request and submitted my appeal with proof of my husbands grandfathers passing and information regarding the situation/occurrence. My appeal was allegedly submitted April 6th, 2023- I requested an update April 11th, and have still not heard back, received any update regarding my appeal, or noticed any changes in my standing on the iCampus Strayer site.

I am currently a student with Strayer college online, enrolled in online classes for the Winter 2023 semester taking a Bachelors in Information Technology. They sent me a laptop to take my classes on. I have had said laptop for little under 2 weeks. My problem is I live alone with my 26 year old daughter who is a college student as well attending a different college, but i realized over the weekend that the laptop Strayer sent me was somehow hacked. For full disclosure: i do not go anywhere or do anything online that would pose a risk to get this laptop hacked. i simply watch ******* true crime videos for entertainment, which i enjoy, check my ***** email and talk on ******** Messenger with my 1 local friend and my mother. That is literally my online persona, in a nutshull. Nothing fancy, i lead a boring life you could say. Anyway, on Friday night at 2 am my anti-virus software popped up and told me "****** has turned on your camera" and i about fainted. I am 43 years old, Never have i seen that happen. I had heard it was possible, but i have never experienced such a scary thing. Then, later that night, i had sent some very important emails to my victims advocate due to me being a victim of a crime in my area, and following up on those emails, i was informed that she never recieved any emails from me. I started to get terrified then because i knew for a fact that i got the email address correct and i double checked that they were sent. They were listed in my sent box as such, so I almost had a nervous breakdown then and there, knowing that the laptop truly was hacked and that i could not on my own figure out how to stop it and fix it. So, I did the right thing and i reached out to my college, thinking they would be just as unsettled and disturbed as I was and be wanting to URGENTLY and swiftly get this problem fixed to rectify and minimize the magnitude of damage caused. They did not care at all. They basically told me i was completley ON MY OWN. THEY ARE A SHAM.

In August, I received a past due notice for $3,000 from Strayer University. I had not received any previous notifications from them until that time. When I contacted their office, they stated the bill is from when I was admitted to their program back in 2021. I found that totally unbelievable and completely fraudulent considering I never attended any classes with them. My employer provided employees with a notice advising about a collaboration between them and Strayer to allow employees to take FREE classes. I corresponded with a Strayer rep there by the name of Nicole O***. She stated she would get me started. However, two weeks later I no longer wanted to take any classes. Nicole advised me she would remove me from the program. I NEVER started taking any classes nor had I heard anything else from them. A whole year later, I get a bill that no one at Strayer can tell me exactly why they are billing me. They've only sent me a notice with only a total amount. No itemization at all. I checked their registrar system for a transcript. I received a transcript for zero credits. It didn't list any grades of any kind - clearly indicating that I did not have any class sessions with their school. One of the emails stated they would try to reach out to my employer to "try" to get reimbursement. For what? I didn't take class and withdrew from their program within two weeks of registering. I've also asked for proof of prior notification of the balance. I have not received the requested proof. If they want to bill for the two weeks of non-activity, that's between them and my employer. It appears they dropped the ball and then have the audacity to try to bill me. Yesterday, I just received a notice from a collection agency for $2,250. I am very angry, considering that I have excellent credit. I plan to complain to every agency possible and contact news outlets regarding their fraudulent billing practices. Thank you.
