Grievance 1: Membership Fee During the interview it was not brought up that the membership fee did not cover the cost of events and that most events will cost extra (outside of deposit events). Deposit events are the only thing that were discussed.Grievance 2: Young ************* vs Premiers During my interview I was told there were two groups, the young prof. (ages *****) and the premier group (ages 40+). I was placed in the young prof. ****** but there is no distinction made other than one event a month which everyone can attend. It seems the majority of the events are attended by the ************** Why the distinction between the two groups if everyone gets the same calendar of activities? I was led to believe that I'd be spending time with people in my own age group. Grievance 3: Hosts In the interview I was told that a host would be present at every event to make you feel welcome, start the conversation, and get you introduced. From my conversations with members, theres no qualifications to become a host. They've been lackluster, with most being highly disorganized. I did not feel welcome by them at all and they did very little to ensure the members at the event were included.Grievance 4: (Lack of) Refunds The concept of event credits as refunds for cancellations was not brought up in my interview. The contract specifically states event cancellations are refunded. By definition a refund and a credit are not interchangeable. Accounting sent a screenshot of an event credit refund policy which I could not find on the E&A website. The only mention of event credits being the form for refunds was in the *** sectionwhich is not accessible via any navbar link and is only nested deep on the homepage as a linked text, easily missed. It's deceitful and deceptive for the default to be issuing refunds as event credit, which by definition is not a refund. The money does not go back to me--you are continuing to keep it.

****************** signed up with Events and Adventures on May 24th, 2022. She reached out to her Event Manager requesting to cancel on June 28th, 2022.
The membership agreement signed by ****************** states that there are additional costs to some of the events. We do also offer a good portion of free events as well.

Our events are open to all members to attend.  We do have certain events like the Young ************ dinners that are geared more towards our younger members. Our club does have an Event Manager that can always help direct ****************** to the events that the younger crowd attends.  I will have her Event Manager reach out to her and give her some ideas on events that tend to attract a younger crowd.  For event credits, if you want those refunded back to your card we are more than happy to assist, you will want to send an email to ************************************* and the ********************* can process that for you.  It does look like you have been utilizing your membership, were happy your getting out and attending our events!

I signed up with Events and Adventures, its a dating club. The club requires an interview with a representative at the home base. During my interview we discussed the dynamics of the club. They expressed it was for single people and everyone paid a monthly fee to be a part of the club. The representative also told me the male to female ratio was equal, 50/50. I signed up for the club and agreed to pay the initiation fee, plus the monthly fee. The representative told me I could cancel the membership at any time. I attended events for 4 months and each event was a male to female ratio of about 4 males to 15 females. Same 4 males at every event. After 4 months of trying the club, I decided it was not for me and cancelled my membership and stopped the automatic monthly payments. At this point Events and Adventures sent me a bill for $1,880.00. I did not pay this because no money is owed. I responded to the accounting department that I did not owe this money and cancelled my membership. No one from the company responded. A month passed and I received a letter from ****************** debt collectors. I responded to them the same. By saying I did not owe the money and am disputing the debt. No one ever responded. Then yesterday I received a credit alert saying ****************** reported the debt to my credit! I've attached the ONE letter I received from ******************. Upon receipt I immediately responded. Never heard from them and then they reported to my credit!

**************** signed up with Events and Adventures on October 19th, 2021. We do have a pretty balance of male to female ratio of members sign up for the club we are just unable to force anyone to attend the events.  The events are available to all members and are picked based on the members preference. We do also have new members sign up every day so new people are regularly showing up to events. If there was ever a concern about the ratio at specific events we do have Event Managers who are always happy to point members towards events that have more of the demographic of members desired.
We do have a cancellation policy that is on the membership agreement that requires a signature directly below that **************** did sign to make sure our members are aware of our policy.

**************** was very active in our club by attending multiple events.  She did not reach out to us in regards to canceling her membership.  Her monthly payments owed started to decline due to Issuer Declined which usually is a result of the cardholder informing their bank not to let us charge them.

We last received payment from **************** on January 19th, 2022.  We did reach out to  **************** to get payments started back up again to avoid going to collections.  She refused to pay anything.  After 120 days without payment her account was sent to our third party collections agency. We are unable to do anything with her account at this time she will need to reach out to ******************.

The above member had signed up with Events and Adventures on March 2nd, 2020 with an 18 month membership to expire on September 2nd, 2021. Ms. ******** payments started to decline in April of 2020. We emailed the member six separate times requesting the member reach out to us to discuss her account. We do understand that this was during the middle of the pandemic and was very lenient with the different options to help keep the members accounts out of collections. ****************** never responded to any of our attempts to help out. Because there was no response from the member we had to send her to our third party collections agency. She can reach out to Keynote and they will be happy to set up a payment plan or discuss the account.

I am rejecting this response because: I have reached out to Events and Adventures by phone reporting to them that I cannot participate in the program due to the massive pandemic as COVID-19 had claimed many many lives throughout the country including ******* and surrounding areas, shut down in regards to close contact in and out of facilities also travel on buses, airlines and trains.

Events and Adventure assured me that

      1.  They reported that I could use their  online only service for dating due to the pandemic as an verbal offer for which I refused for the fee they wanted me to pay.  This is not like meeting people in person as discussed with a calendar of outdoor events and travels they supplied me with.  Online dating was not what i signed up for.

      2.  They also reported that they would not use my social security number for credit reporting services.  I asked why they needed my SSN on an application, i was told this is used for background information only.  (misuse of my SSN)

I contracted COVID=19 2 times during the course of the pandemic after being vaccinated with the ********** of ******** Affairs Medical Facility and will not allow myself to be in social situations at this time.  Especially since my mother is recovering from Cancer.  As Vaccination requirements are laxed i will not expose myself to those who do not see this virus as a threat to public health and refuse to take the vaccination.

      Sincerely,

      *******************************

In April 2020 I found out about an online and in-person dating program in the ******** **********. The name of the company is events and adventures. I called to inquire about signing up, and was told that I could sign up, but if I didnt I like it, I could always freeze the months of membership and be reimbursed at the end if I happen to move. A little over 2 1/2 years later, I have now moved to **** ******, and I requested the reimbursement for all of the time that I did not use on the service. I only used five or six months, but the company is claiming that because my two year membership ended in April 2022 that they cannot refund anything. The woman I talked to on the phone, their representative, when I first signed up said that even the frozen months would be reimbursed, but I have no signed paperwork for that. Part of the contract that I signed (attached below) hints that freezing is not refundable, but its still not clear based off of the fact that I paid one payment at the beginning instead of making payments from month to month.I dont want a refund for the entire program, just for the months that I was frozen. The total would end up being between $1000 and $1500.

The above member had signed up with Events and Adventures on April 9th, 2020 with a two year membership to expire on April 9th, 2022.  She did pay her membership in full.  In December of 2020 she requested to start freezing her membership.  Our company offers our members to freeze their accounts while they are unable to utilize their membership.  This is a pay now use later policy.  So the money that was paid would be applied to the original dates of the agreement.  When a member freezes their account that time just gets added to the end of the membership extending the expiration date out.  It does not extend the life of the payment out.  *********** sent us her marriage certificate dated June 4th, 2022 which is past her two year membership expiration date of April 4th, 2022.

      Complaint: 17607384

I am rejecting this response because: the representative who helped me sign up for the company told me that I would be able to cancel and receive any money back that I did not use. I did not use the service after December 2020, as dated in their response. The contract is also unclear about the policy of charging their members while they freeze their membership. According to their contract, you can either pay in full, or pay in payments monthly. I decided to pay in full, thinking I would get whatever money back I had paid if I decided not to use the service. In the contract, there is language about monthly payments continuing when frozen, but does not state that a member who pays in full is held to the same standard. If the contract had stated that members who paid in full would also be expected to pay for their frozen months, I would NOT have registered for this service, especially with how things were at the time with COVID.

      Sincerely,

      *****************************

According to the Consumer Review Fairness Act, a company may not block or remove truthful reviews. This company, it it's efforts to try to protect its efforts to acquire more money in ways some people see as misleading and unethical, blocked me on various social media sites when I responded to multiple people about my entirely negative experience. I paid my contract in full. My experience is not one they want other people to know about. They are in violation of federal law by preventing people from sharing their negative experiences. I have filed an FTC complaint for this. They also continue to try to solicit me, despite my request that they cease all contact and advertisement, which is in violation of the CAN-SPAM act, as my contract is no longer active, and I explicitly expressed that I do not want to be contacted any more.

      Business Response

The ************************ states the Consumer Review Fairness Act was implemented to make it illegal for companies to include standardized provisions that threaten or penalize people for posting honest reviews. The Act protects consumers from signing a binding contract that has any clause that states the consumer is not allowed to leave a negative review or fining them for doing so.  Events and Adventures has no such clause in the membership agreement that was signed by ******** ******. Thus Events and Adventures has not done anything unlawful.  We have reached out to multiple employees among the company to see what horrible experience ******** is referring to and there is no record of a complaint being issued.  He can email us what he is referring to at *************************************.  If there is something that is a problem we want to have the details so we can make sure we are taking the correct steps to keep anything from happening.  We also have only received one request to be removed from our automatic mailing list. Once that was received we removed him from receiving any additional communication.
