Im truly sorry to hear about your experience after purchasing what you believed to be an Xbox console. I can understand how disappointing and frustrating this situation must have been.
OfferUp is a local marketplace that connects buyers and sellers, but we dont facilitate payments for in-person transactions. While we encourage accurate listings and honest communication, in-person purchases take place outside our platform and arent covered by our Purchase Protection Policy. Because of that, were unable to issue refunds directly.
If you havent already, I suggest messaging the seller through the OfferUp app to request a refund. While sellers arent obligated to issue one, some may be willing to work it out. As a last resort, you might also consider reselling the item if a refund isnt possible.
We appreciate the time you spent as part of the OfferUp community, and Im sorry this experience led you to leave the app. If you decide to give OfferUp another shot, we'd be glad to welcome you back and support you however we can.Warmly,

This place has scammed me and stole money from me. DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS WEBSITE. My husband just recently purchased a wii for me so I was looking to buy games for this wii. I purchased three games and two nunchucks from offerup. I received one of the games but the other seller did not ship the two games and the two nunchucks. A week goes by and the seller still did not ship the games and the nunchucks. So I asked multiple times for a refund. They SAID they released the refund on June 29th and it is July9th and I still havent received anything. The receipt disappeared from the website and it says the order was cancelled. The transaction is not even showing up on my bank statements so I cant even dispute the charge. The customer service basically told me that there was nothing they can do and its not their problem because the charge is not going to show up on my bank statement. so until I get my money back someway somehow. Im going to BLAST offerup on every social media platform. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS WEBSITE.OfferUp, Inc.

Deceptive Billing Practices and Unprofessional Customer Support.I am the owner of ******************, a licensed used car dealership, and Im extremely disappointed with my experience with OfferUps advertising service. I originally signed up for a 90-day advertising plan and made sure to submit a written cancellation request via email 10 days before the end of my service periodwell within any reasonable notice window.Despite my clear intent to cancel, OfferUp continued billing me beyond the 90 days, ultimately charging my business for approximately 5.5 months of service. This is not only unacceptable, but it feels deliberately exploitative.When I attempted to resolve the issue, my assigned account specialist, Arletys ******, was completely unhelpful. She dismissed my refund request and offered no accountability or assistance. Worse, she misrepresented the charges, falsely stating that the first months pro-rated billing was an "activation fee"which was never disclosed in any of the signup materials. When I asked for clarification, her response was a condescending sorry you didnt read the fine print.This kind of attitude toward paying customers is not only unprofessional but unethical. OfferUps lack of transparency, misleading billing practices, and refusal to acknowledge legitimate cancellation requests should be a red flag to any business considering their services.I strongly urge other small businessesespecially fellow car dealersto think twice before investing in OfferUp advertising. I lost $700 on OfferUp after buying a counterfeit phone that was advertised as sealed and brand new. The entire transaction from messaging to agreement was done through OfferUp's platform. I met the seller in person, paid cash, and trusted the listing because it was hosted on OfferUp.The product looked legitimate, came sealed in packaging, and included a fake receipt and the brand bag. I later discovered it was completely fake. I reported it to both OfferUp and the police, and the police told me OfferUp was the only one who could help me recover the money. Still, OfferUp refuses to do anything because the transaction was in person even though cash transactions are the norm on their platform. They hide behind technicalities and policies instead of protecting buyers. Their lack of safeguards allows scammers to operate freely, and their customer service is dismissive and unhelpful. This platform is unsafe, unregulated, and should be held accountable for enabling fraud. I used to trust OfferUp but now I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. If you value your money and your safety, stay far away from OfferUp.OfferUp, Inc.

After a few years of using OfferUp on and off for purchases, all of which went without a problem, I get a demand from OfferUp to go through the truyou nonsense. I tried asking customer service what triggered the need for the truyou verification but they could never provide me with an answer. I suspect whoever I dealt with ate more than a bit of lead paint. Yeah, I'll admit to some rather colorful and descriptive language on my end, but at that point I simply didn't care. They were not going to get my ID without an explanation as to why I was being singled out. Maybe it's because I'm gay? Who knows. They ended up permanently disabling (their words, the ableists) after I questioned the apparent lack of genetic diversity in whatever absolute potato I was dealing with.OfferUp, Inc.

No, your team did not communicate this to me. The reason I created another account was IN RESPONSE to the initial Truyou notification. I asked what triggered that and I got no answer. And I'll freely admit that I used offensive language because after a certain point I just didn't care. So, to recap- I had an account and it got flagged for reasons your team either couldn't or wouldn't inform me of. I then created a different account whilst trying to get an answer regarding the initial account. After dealing with your sad excuse for a "customer service" team I just gave up and used some very colorful and fun for me language. And as far as opening a new account? If I could leave zero stars I would. I have an automotive account to sell cars on this site. Our company *********************** have been loyal customers for sometime. I have been trying to find out who our new account representative is via email. The customer service for this company is lacking and in good conscious I can no longer do business with them. Any company that does not offer phone support has something to hide. I called several of my past account managers that I had in my email and they have all left Offerup. Should this be a surprise given the way they conduct business? There are other options out there to sell your products. I would steer clear of this company at all costs otherwise when you have issues you will become very frustrated trying to get your issue resolved. Our company policy is that any company that does not offer phone support will not get our business. Period! I am canceling my account immediately (that's if I can get ahold of someone). If they do not respond withing 24hrs I will begin legal action. I will not tolerate this type of incompetence when I am paying for a service. Seller and buyer beware. After less than 24 hours on this platform, they basically locked my account from purchasing or selling because they decided I needed to give them my very private information (driver's license, passport) in order to continue. There are MANY other accounts on ********************** that do not have this supposed TruYou accreditation and I have no idea why I was selected but I can tell you that I am in this day and age of fraud, privacy concerns and data breaches requiring that kind of information to just be ale to use a platform is scandalous, especially since that was not stated up front but rather became a problem once I had begun the process.OfferUp, Inc.

This is incorrect and deliberately misleading. Most users do not participate in this process, I have spoken to many of my colleagues and seen that many users do not have this badge. I was not given any reasoning why I was asked for this information when others were not. You can assure me whatever you want, as far as Im concerned you want pieces of very personal information that you should not have, and given todays fraud and data breaches you should not have it. This "company" is a nightmare. It is like a ********** except they annoy people with every item posted so you pay them to "promote" the item at $8 for 3 days. Also the app is very hard on people's smartphones being the data hog it is. I ran a ***************************** was the ONLY app that both ***************** said was using all my resources. Anyway I posted a Blue Line hoodie which supports ************* kicked me off the platform for such a minor issue.I wasted 2 months posting items for sale at very reasonable prices & did not get even 1 sale. I posted about 100 items & the "views" were minimal telling me they were shadow banning my items just like Fakebook or not showing the items because I didn't pay them to promote them. This company has NO customer support & the app will destroy your phone also. Good riddance of this useless "company"OfferUp, Inc.

Teetering on the edge of a fraudulent company with poor or possibly outsourced customer support! ***** selling on platform at all costs! Literally! I sold an item on this platform after receiving an offer for about $200. Item required shipment. Offerup gives you 3 days to ship this item. They then force you to ship the item through a prepaid shipping label through ***** 3 days is very vague, but if they had any sense this would mean 3 **** BUSINESS DAYS, which it does not. Now, the offer was finally authorized early on Friday, and I had no way of shipping the item this day as I have a demanding job in ******. Following a federal holiday and severe winter weather, **** was closed several days. The day that I handed in the package, my local branch had only one employee in the mail room and the lights weren't even on. Offerup says that I shipped this item out late, so they cancelled the transaction! So I shipped this $200-$400 item to the seller FOR FREE! **************** is adamant that I'm the one at fault and told me to try to work out payment with seller outside of the app! They specifically have you agree not to work out payment and shipment outside of the app, and say they will prosecute you for it, so that they get their 15% tax of the sale from you! But then say that the problem must be corrected off app! Do not sell, seriously dodgy or even fraudulent platform.OfferUp, Inc.

We'd love to have you back selling on our platform, so I'd like to go over our shipping policies with you to provide some clarification and hopefully prevent similar issues in the future.
Sellers have 5 business days to ship an item (though we recommend shipping within 3 business days to allow **** ample time to scan the item). We require shipping through **** because the payment disbursement is dependent on the label being scanned. If the label doesn't get scanned within the timeframe, the order is automatically canceled.
I understand you may have felt rushed to ship your order within the timeframe. In situations like these, it's important to communicate with the buyer. Sometimes buyers and sellers will agree to wait for the order to auto-cancel and then repurchase the item when it's more convenient for both parties. Clear communication is key!
While we don't recommend arranging payment outside the platform due to a high risk of scams, it's not forbidden. Sometimes, it's the only option when unforeseen circumstances prevent a sale from going through as planned.
