On 11/22/2023 I visited a doctor for a wellness check up. A wellness checkup is covered under my insurance. Instead of providing me with what my appointment was for Aurora without any disclosure used my appointment for establishing care with a new doctor. This appointment cost me approximately $480. Aurora does not disclose that you need to establish care with a doctor prior to a wellness checkup. Aurora benefits from having a high turnover rate with their doctors. My previous location for care through Aurora has had a 100% turnover rate in the previous five years. Which forced me to find a new doctor. I didnt elect to change my doctor.Business Response

Aurora Health constantly has a computer calling me to collect money. Then a human comes online and asks for my personal identifier info. So they call me and then ask me for my personal info. They call from different telephone numbers so I don't know who is calling and don't want to give an unidentified stranger my info. I have incurred bills in the amount of $2,132.11 from 9/25/23 to 12/1/24. My insurance just approved payment of the last portion of the expenses. I have PAID the sum of $1,932.11 of the $2,132.11 due. I only owe $200 on the total amount due. When Aurora calls they harass me into agreeing to a payment plan, which I'm willing to do, but they require 50% payment of the total amount due on the same day by credit card. This is unfair. Who can afford to pay 50%. Why is Aurora harassing me on the payment. They call me before the payment is even due. They constantly threaten legal action. They refuse to offer the payment plan unless you pay 50% on that day with a credit card.Business Response

I have been calling the number on that billing for weeks. I have sent letters to the address on my bill. They have refused to give me a name or number to address my concerns to the people who messed this account up. This does not resolve the issue. I gave you the billing office They have refused to talk to us or check on what happened . I have start paying on the bill because they refuse to send a bill to the Veterans Administration. They have the billing information but never billed. Instead the sent me a bill , refuse to submit the bill and tell me to do there job of getting a referral number from the Veterans Administration. I do not have there NPI, Tax id or the proper CPT numbers to do that. That was there staff job to do. I sent you the information of the people who are refusing to deal with this situation. They need to accept responsibility. Not now say it is someone job to deal with it know. And, they are passing it on to them. They had weeks to look into things and haven't .

Per VA requirements, home health is only covered if referred an authorized directly by the VA. In December 2023, our pre service authorization team reached out to the clinical staff explaining that we did not receive an authorization/referral from the VA in order to cover this service. They stated that if the patient would like to use his VA benefit, he should reach out to his VA social worker in order to see if they could get approval. The authorization that was presented to us by the referring physician was only authorized for outpatient therapy. The physical therapist responded back to preservice on 12/15 that the patient intended to try and this covered through the VA and they did not have additional coverage. We received a message on 1/16 from the patient that according to their VA rep they were not supposed to have home therapy. We agree as we informed the patient of this in December. The patient's MD should not have referred him to home health as it was not approved or the MD should have worked with patient and VA to get home health approval. Our teammate called this patient back on 1/19 to clarify the issue. The patient stated they thought they were authorized for home health and escalated this to the billing supervisor. The billing supervisor has been working with the clinical operations team to see if they can work with the VA to get this back approved for authorization. As a courtesy to the patient, we have written off the remaining balance. We will attempt to bill the VA if authorization ends up getting approval.Customer Answer

I am filling a dispute against Aurora in ******, might be closed.I did do a complaint to ******************* twice and also now emailed ************************* and filled out the form in her page.I really thought I was getting better but, my condition platued or gotten worse.I am on numerous meds with unwanted side effects, no answers, given a med I wasnt supposed to be prescribed and suffering from a severe allergic reaction to prednisone while having Covid. Im a workaholic and my job was short staffed as usual so I went back before the 15 day grace ****** and had an arithis flare up, put on the steroid which with g. bypass I shouldnt of been given and also when seeing *************************,I did tell her about the pain in my lymph node area and she totally disregarded it since I was treated twice prior for lymph node infections. There was a delay in my recovery since I had to go back and do a urine sample and then yet again because they lost it or spilt it, the nurse said. My mom that had a stroke years ago doesnt drive the greatest but, I had no other options otherwise driving on a muscle relaxer.Im still on them but, neck surgery is delayed which I have a herniated disc that I received I believe from being robbed at knife point at the same job that I worked over 11 years and had to give my 2 weeks in which was the hardest day of my life. Also to sell my car that I love and now I can barely drive down the road to the Store without having muscle and nerve issues that result in pins and needles. I did inquire about the **ray results when I had to do the urine sample again and ***** was just talking to a new nurse that was at the facility. I went the weekend without a refill on my script and that was the only time the throbbing in my back would stop which would give me 2 hours of sleep at a time, someone read the request and never sent it in.**ray results took 3 days and an mri referral took about a week and a half,I called the hospital to see if it was ********* wasnt until 9days later!Business Response

I have to wait to sign a privacy agreement before they can proceed on this matter of my behalf. I have an Aurora portal that shows everything, appointments, messages read and responses and messages read and no reply to meds/ iron levels checked beforeinfusions, last two went unchecked because no work order, I sent a message to *********************** on my behalf before doing the hour drive and read but, no response. Dates and times are all displayed and also prescribed prednisone after gastric bypass and 2 ****** doctors said no you cant have that. I have been having issues from head to toe preventing me to go back to work. I have been working with ****************** in ** to get an approved claim. My new primary doctor has been helping me with the claim but, paperwork wasnt back in on time when SSA made their decision. So I am in the reconsideration stage. I also contacted ************************* in regards to this matter after I had sent my letters and my victim information into the office that handles offenders information on new POs regarding my robbery. I went and started elsewhere after getting denied the first time to see if I have a chance to make a survival. Im at the point of losing my house, maxed out all credit cards and I only drive around the corner to have pins and needles when I get home. I handle short rides but, only necessary. My doctors visits have been video visit and it is definitely a god sent to me. Im on more meds than I can count coming and going and no answers and gonna lose it all when I worked so hard to get where I am. This is my first house with my husband, it has been hard enough living on 1 income but, losing his mom 6 months ago was a huge loss. She was a ray of sunshine that kept me going. So if they are sending a release form thats fine, I just figured I would clue you in on some of the rest for the most part. Im not looking for a huge settlement thats not the case, I love to work and I cant is the issue. Im having a hard time typing this even on my phone. I live with the chronic pain all the time among a disc in my neck that needs surgery on mostly from the robbery I believe, I was receiving care from Mayo Clinic for BMS and oral thrush, oral thrush I believe is gone but, my new insurance wont cover Mayo even if a referral is needed and even then its on a guarantee that they will given the 2 ent docs around here are from Aurora. With this experience and other ones I held faith that there is good doctors but, at this point I have been having ****** fix Auroras mistakes. I dont want to be in debt because of this so, yes unwanted medical bills and loss wages until I pray to get approved for disability. So at this time I decline a agreement until I have to read what they say over patient and medical confidentially.

I saw a Doctor at this facility, and it took me a month to get this appt. She knew nothing about what was wrong with me, I saw her for ear pain, stating it happened daily. I was told to come back when I'm having pain, I explained it took a month just to get this appt and was told by her, well be persistent with scheduling when you call. When I tried to check my aftercare summary it was not available for six days, and she listed about 5 different things it could be? I called 2 days after seeing her and filed a complaint stating I did not want to be charged my $150.00 copay as I was going to have to see another provider. Going back to her is not an option. I was told they would get back to me. 3 weeks later, nothing so I called again and left a message, still no phone call. 2 weeks later I reached out again and left a message and still ***** has contacted me, yet they submitted my claim to insurance and now want my copay. Very unprofessional. This doctor ****** a slew of things she guesses could be the cause of my ear pain, from headaches, which I have been diagnosed with migraines for years, to teeth grinding, which I also told her what the wear on my teeth was from. Then says it could be eustation tube disfunction, why did she not test for that?Business Response

In June of ********************************************************* the evening on a Friday night. Since no other clinics were open, we had to go to the emergency room. There they received a shoulder X-ray in the room, a few minutes later the Dr. came in explained the nursemaids elbow that my child experienced, proceeded to set it back in place with one swift motion, and taught us how to do the maneuver if it happens again. A total of 15 minutes. For this transaction, Aurora is charging us over $3000. No, I was not aware of these costs ahead of time. When I called asking if there was any way to change the codes or lower that cost, their response was sorry thats what it is and would be similar to any other clinic in the area. The cost of this visit and the care provided is absolutely ridiculous and should not cost this much for a simple injury. How are people supposed to live with price gouges like this.Business Response

Account number: *******. On Aug 28 I took Lyme disease tests due to Aurora doctor's ************ which was very likely unnecessary. (I asked other doctors in other hospitals, no one recommends doing that for a bite of less than 24 hours for which I already took antibiotics.) And, even worse, when doing the blood work, the nurse was so rude that my arm was heavily bruised many days after the practice. She obviously had little knowledge of doing blood work, and had to put rubber band on both my arms to try which one had more salient blood veils before she dared to start to draw the blood! She also obviously did not know how to do that, and used rubber band to try on both my arms, while she tried it on my right arm (which she did not choose to work on), it was so painful that I even screamed! This never happened in other hospitals before! I know she would claim she was teaching a student, but even so, did she need to practice those? Was making patient scream for blood work proper teaching? For such rude and horrible practice, I was charged over $400. I reported this issue to the ****************** of this hospital, with a photo of the horrible bruise, and later received a letter which acknowledged they emphasized this to the nurse, but did not want to waive the fee or even give any discount!!! What a horrible business!Business Response

[Please type your response here.]Aurora already sent me an acknowledgement letter. And I do not understand what else private information of me they need my permission to disclose. In the letter, as in my last complaint, they understood I was treated really horribly by them, meanwhile they refused to give me any fee waiver or discount. Their new response talking about "acknowledgment letter" was merely to pretend that they responded. I also disagree that the blood work was necessary. I talked to different doctors in other hospitals, no one ever asked me to do that. Also, my child had a tick bite later than me, and another Aurora practitioner said clearly that since the bite was for a short time only, and happened a short time before we went to the urgent care, there was no need to do blood work to test that. Regardless of that, the horrible bruise and cruel practice due to my blood work was something Aurora could not deny, and they continued to disregard patient's complaints.

I have already sent the letter of acknowledgement Aurora sent me, which indicates clearly Aurora knows what happened, and acknowledged at least the nurse treated me very rudely (given the photo evidence they could not deny). Aurora kept calling me and when I called back and told the agent I was still negotiating with Aurora, the agent refused to put the charge on hold, and threatened to send it to collection. As the new attachment shows, Aurora had data breach and is being sued. The main campus of this hospital might be fine, but the ** campus that I complain about, is really horrible. They merely asked for my permission to delay the process. Isn't the fact very clear here by the acknowledgement letter already? They know they have bad reputation about data privacy, and actually threaten the customers by repeatedly asking for permission to share private data. I've already shared the letter, and I ask Aurora to respond regarding the facts in the letter - Do they think their nurse did something bad to me? Do they agree for such rude practice, I deserve at least some discount?
BTW, in other hospitals, even without asking and arguing, they would give discounts.

My name is ***************** and my Aurora account number is *******. I had a colonoscopy 5+ years ago with Aurora that found a polyp. I put off getting a second one for years because my insurance was saying it would cost $3k+. My doctor was recommending a second one, but Aurora said they cannot bill it under preventative, it must be billed as diagnostic since my previous test had a polyp. A preventative test is 100% covered with insurance while a diagnostic is all on the patient.I spoke with my Aurora doctor about this, and you can see that in my notes on 1/10/2023. My new doctor ****************** ***** it would not be that much and would only be my $1500 deductible or even maybe $0 if it processed as a preventative care. He disagreed with the way the company bills these procedures the same way I do.I called the numbers Aurora provided me before the surgery as well as calling my insurance for my cost. Nobody could provide me a cost, but I was told it Wont be that bad, these are done all the time!Once I received the bills in 5/2023, they were initially around $5k and Aurora was asking for immediate payment. I emailed Aurora on 5/15/2023 and was just getting generic responses saying to contact my insurance for questions. They called once while I was at work and left a message. I called back numerous times and left messages, and my calls were never returned. I also wrote responses via the Aurora website from 5/15-5/18 and requested a call back from a manager. What I owed on the website was changing on a daily basis and did not match anything I was receiving in the mail either. My Aurora bills went down to $2500 in June and the reason they provided was "a change was made to the diagnosis order and the charges were corrected".In August 2023, I received another bill from Aurora on this for an "adjustment" for $226.20.They sent my bills to collections on 9/6/2023 without any verbal or written notice being given to me prior to that. They are saying that is their policy.Business Response

My ******** Summary Notice on July 25, 2023 indicates that Aurora is now charging ******** a "facility fee" as an outpatient clinic visit. After speaking to a representative at Aurora, I was told that ******** is being charged for vitals taken prior to seeing the oncology Dr. since he is specialist. I am shocked that I now am charged to have someone to take vitals and then charged separately to see the Dr. I know of no other health system that charges for vitals when seeing a specialist. Transaction occurred 8/14/23 $283.47 was amount taken out my checking account unauthorized. I was previously on a payment plan with this company for about a year up until about 3months ago and that plan was with my flexible spending heath ***** card which I authorized when I agreed to a payment plan of $50 per month. Approx. 3 months ago 2023 my flexible health account money's ran out .Aurora reached out to me by text I was removed off plan and needed call set up another when I called **** said $50 month plan couldn't be offered they offered the $283.00 month plan I said no ! Informed agent I couldn't afford this *** and would call back another time.I had not called back and it looks like this company eventually placed me on this plan on their own as I didn't **** to this when I spoke with them about 3 months ago.I have never given them my ***** card info. Never gave them card information such as expense. Date or my Ccv number I have used my checking ***** card for copay doctor visits and also for my prescription in their pharmacy, so what they did was took money out my checking account without my authorization because I had used my checking ***** with company. My balance is Approx $1300.00 but they had no right nor authorization to remove money from my account if I wasn't paying fast enough nor wouldn't **** to a payment plan they could have placed in collections! I called them after I discovered this I was in shock they said they will not reverse charge and would send me receipt and I could get money back from my health flexible spending which I no longer have.I spoke with Chime checking service which where my funds are told them this *** was unauthorized so my dispute is pending and they will be sending me a new ***** card one Aurora used has been cancelled.Business Response

BBB asks third parties who publish complaints, reviews and/or responses on this website to affirm that the information provided is accurate. However, BBB does not verify the accuracy of information provided by third parties, and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information in Business Profiles.
When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.
BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.
As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
