1 starwhen I got my vacation to Orlando, I picked up a vehicle from Routes Car Rent at the Orlando airport after they checked its condition. Then I went to Miami by car, taking a day the car was broken due to its battery death. I demanded a new vehicle instead of a broken one. They told me we don't have such an exchange car service but if you change its battery, we return its fee to you. Then I did as they told me. Despite it taking more than 4 mounts, I can not still get my refund from them. I don't know how I can get it. **** * ** *** ** *** *** ** * ** *** ******** **** **** **** ** ***** ** *** ***Review fromAndrew K

1 starI recently made a reservation and pre-paid for a Routes car rental through an online travel agency on behalf of my 81-year-old mother. However, upon arriving at the Toronto airport rental location, she was shockingly refused the car simply because of her age. This refusal of service resulted in significant financial loss and inconvenience to her as alternate travel arrangements needed to be made for her stay. Seeking a refund or credit since no service was rendered, I was met with disappointment when Routes declined my request. They told me that since the car was booked through a 3rd party, I should seek a refund from them. The travel agency, however, insists that the ability to refund rests with Routes alone. This unfortunate incident highlights several concerning issues:
1. Lack of Transparent Rental Conditions: The rental conditions outlined in the contract were not adequately disclosed, leaving us unaware of any age-related restrictions. Clear and explicit terms could have avoided this distressing situation.
2. Unjust Age Discrimination: My mother holds a valid driver's license and boasts a clean driving record. The refusal based solely on her age is undoubtedly a case of ageism, which is unfair and discriminatory.
3. Unwarranted Loss of Funds: Routes' refusal to provide a refund despite failing to deliver the rented service is unacceptable. On the day of the incident, there was an abundance of unrented vehicles, meaning that providing a refund would not have resulted in any loss to Routes.
In summary, Routes Car Rentals took my money and denied any reimbursement or credit, despite not rendering the service they were contracted for. This experience has left me feeling deeply dissatisfied and taken advantage of. This situation serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fair and transparent business practices and the need to address age discrimination in the service industry.Review fromCAROL L

1 starThis place is not at the airport rental cars!! **** *** * ****, they get you there after you have already paid for your car, then refuse to rent it to you till you pay all different types of fees! This rental car experience ruined our vacation. There were cops there because each person threw a fit about the charges, there were people crying, it was like the whole experience was not even really happening! **** ***** *** ** ** **** ***** ** ** * ****!!!!Review fromKerry C

1 starThe only star goes to the wonderful people working behind the counter. Take off one star for the looooong distance from the airport and no suspension in the shuttle so we were launched in the air over every bump going 70 on the highway with no seatbelts. Take off three stars for every vehicle they offered us that had a cracked windshield ( not just a chip, the whole thing cracked lengthwise or top to bottom or a giant chip in front of the drivers view. And the managers excuse was that they can only replace the at a time? Up charge for a different vehicle, no acknowledgment of the problem or any concern for our safety? Completely unacceptable and theyve got you so far away from all the other car rentals that you have no other options. Its truly unbelievable, if I hadnt experienced it for myself I wouldnt even have believed how bad this company is. Theyre planning on charging us too if we bring back this vehicle with the windshield cracked. Im guessing thats their entire business plan to charge the customer and never get the repairs done? Pathetic.Review fromJasmine T

1 starI rented a car for my mother in Calgary to drive to her appointments. She arrived 20 minutes before her rental time and the front desk people told her that in order to give her a rental they would need to see her "pink slip" from her personal insurance on her personal vehicle. There was no mention of this in the confirmation email we received when we initially rented the car. I later learned this information is deep in the fine print when you click into the contract through 2 different links. Even still, my mom was able to provide a copy of her pink slip, but was then told she had wait for a car to be ready. There were no cars and there was a lot of frustrated angry people who were in the same position as my mom. 2 hours later she still did not have a car and missed her appointment. when we tried to cancel the reservation they told us they were unable to do so and i had to contact the customer service line. I have emailed and called customer service multiple times no one has responded to me. This car rental left my senior mother confused and uncomfortable in a situation that should have been easy. She paid $40 for an **** to bring her to the rental agency and left without a car. ** ***** *** * ****** **** *** **** **** *** * ***** *** ***** This was has been one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had.Review fromKatrina C

1 starI wouldn’t give 1 star…..I booked a car and was all set to go,,only to get there and was told they don’t rent to Florida drivers! Left my family high and dry! When I booked I put in all my information and was told I was good to go even sent me more emails telling me to have a wonderful time visiting! Was rude and didn’t care about me being stranded with my family! I have never been so hurt and disrespected! Also to add they took my money though! We worked hard to make this vacation happen all for them to ruin the whole thing! We are not happy at all about this place and would never recommend them, they should have never excepted my booking if they don’t rent to Florida Drivers!!! 100% wrong,I still haven’t received a call or email or my moneys back!!! What a waste of a business!Review fromEric W

1 starTLDR; Poor Customer Service, Poor Communication, and a “policy over people” type if mmmmmmm business. Here, the customer has no rights or voice against the almighty Routes policies.
Booked through a third party app, Rental booking was CONFIRMED. Drove an hour with my whole family to pickup the CONFIRMED rental. They turned us away due to a policy that wasn’t communicated to us effectively, was unwillingly to talk about solutions with us, and put policy over people. We were out a rental and had no time to get a replacement before our trip. Routes AND our third party booking agency would not refund us or give us our CONFIRMED rental. We lost $500 because of a booking that should have never been allowed to be CONFIRMED. ***** ********* ***** ******** **** *** ******* ********* **** ******* ** ********* *** **** *** ******** ****** *******Review fromStephanie R

1 starDO NOT RENT from this place!!! If I could give a negative or zero I would!
First, the shuttle took over a half hour to pick us up (it’s stated every 20 minutes).
Then we get there and they charge an additional fee for extra insurance because I used a debit card. I then placed a $500 deposit, which I have not received back and it has been 13 business days. When I signed the contract it was 3-5 business day hold. I called to complain to someone who did not speak English well and she said it’s a 30 day business hold and that it was my banks fault. They release the funds and the bank take another 15-20 days to get it to you. I have never had such a hold on my account and I rent cars often. So I’m still waiting for my funds. She told me she would not speak to me until I reached 30 business days.
The last thing is the car needed maintenance and had lights flashing the whole time I drove, which really annoys me in my own car. It also had a low key fob warning that kept flashing. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more for a reputable company.Review fromIda D

1 starI went through ******* to reserve and pre-paid for an SUV from Routes in Tampa by the airport for $306.14. Once we figured out that this location is outside of the airport, we found the shuttle location and waited. When we arrived, we waited in line again and then was told they did NOT have a reservation on file with our name and told us to call ******* to get a refund. I called ******* and they had to contact the location manager, and he told them that they would not refund our money because we were late getting there (past 3pm) and they offered us a different car and we had declined. They did NOT offer us anything and we were there for an hour, waiting in line, talking with them and waiting for the shuttle to go back to the airport to only get an **** at 3:30pm to take us to the airport. When I called Customer Service they just said, "Sorry for the inconvenience and the location manager declined the refund, there was nothing they could do". **** ** ***** ******** to gain a profit, literally lying about the situation and conversation to gain a profit. 1 starSame as other reviews, I went thru a reputable 3rd party for my car rental.
When I arrived I was told it was additional money b/c I live in the same state as I was renting from . In addition, I have to pay them to use my own car insurance. I tried getting a refund and girl at counter said I had to go thru the 3rd party . Called them and they said routes has to release my money b/c we prepaid.
I lost my money completely and had to put out more money for another car rental company.
Never encountered this when renting a car !!!!!
