Reserved a mid-sized car from Routes in Chicago. They didn't hold the vehicle. Gave me a **** instead. Rough ride bad for my back. Agent rushed me through the rental agreement and I didn't get any time to read it before signing. He then required a $500 security deposit on my credit card. At pickup the agent had me chose between instate unlimited miles or multistate limit of 200 miles a day in response to a sign posted on the wall about crossing the IL state line. Choose in state not knowing the sites of interest at my destination. That was a mistake. However, when I arrived at Hamilton, IL I decided to cross the bridge to Keokuk, IA to see two sites across the Mississippi for 2 hours and 40 miles of driving. Got an email with a GPS tag that I crossed a state line without written permission. Fined a daily crossing fee for every day of the trip not just for the day I went into IA even when the car was sitting unused while back in Chicago under the hotel for the last two days of the trip. The state line crossing fees were $186 which was added and more that the original 5 day rental fee of $168. Emailed the Routes customer service afterwards. They didn't address all my concerns about the rental just told me the crossing fee is stated in the Routes website. Total driving for my trip < 600 miles. I will rent from a different car rental company from now on.
      I received a notice from Routes today 10-31-24 for my road toll fees which I fully expected to pay while in IL. But ******, should you pay the road tolls as you go because Routes charged me a $50 administrative fee for $10 in toll charges while driving in IL. That high of a fee is excessive. * **** ******** ******* **** ******** ** *** ** *** ** *** ****** * *** **** ***** *** ** ****** ** *** * **** **** *********** ********* ***** ******* ** ***** ******** *** ** **** *** * ******** ********

We recently booked and prepaid a car rental at this location. Our confirmation clearly stated The total price includes all mandatory taxes and fees. Routes own rental policy, which is posted online, states Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) can be purchased at a price not to exceed $39.99 per day. If declining CDW, renter must present proof of coverage with dollar amount covered. This clearly indicates that their insurance coverage is optional, not mandatory. However, when we went to pick up the vehicle, the insurance charge was mandatory, and they wouldnt give us the vehicle unless we paid for it. We then declined taking the vehicle because the insurance coverage, which we did not need, would have more than doubled the price. Then they refused to refund what we paid. So, they it is okay if they dont honour the terms of the confirmation and it is okay if they dont follow their own rental policy, but if we cancel because of that, it is not okay and we have to pay. This is clearly a cash grab. There are no deals here. You will pay as much if not more than at a reputable car rental company. ** **** **** * ****** *** **** **** *** **********

Very unhappy with my service. We arrived at OHare around 6:30pm on 10/17/24. I called the number on my reservation and selected speak to a representative. No one ever answered. Then I tried the online form to be picked up. I put in my last name and reservation number and it came back with an error. I tried every combination of name and res number I could but it never worked. Finally I gave up and we took a taxi to the lot. That cost me $30 plus a large tip, so after paying for parking and pickup I had to spend $50 just to get back to your to. I fully expect to be reimbursed for this additional expense.
      **** **** *********  Tried contacting them online and only get error messages back. * ***** **** * **** ** * ******

My most recent trip on August 31st, I used Routes.I ordered the vehicle through Priceline because the initial daily rate was cheapest.Clearly, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!I needed the vehicle for 7 days. When I arrived, I purchased full coverage insurance from Routes, an extra $28 per day. I was charged a one-time fee for toll coverage of $10 with an additional daily fee of $9.95(much higher than other companies). From the start the staff was rude and, the rental process was longer than I expected. When I received the car that I purchased it was dirty inside and out.Shortly after driving, the tire pressure light came on.A day after renting the vehicle, I was involved in a hit and run accident on the highway near my hotel.I made a report at the local police station. Then I immediately followed up in person with Routes/Allied rental car to make a claim and assess damage.I spoke with night manager, ***** ****. He said I had to pay $750 as a deductible for an accident I did not cause. I returned to Routes 2 days later, during the daytime. So, I could follow up on my claim.I was asked to speak to a claim's specialist named *****, very ***************** was a very horrible experience and conversation with this person.I questioned why I was getting charged for an accident that I was not at fault for. He said that regardless of fault, I had to pay the deductible because that is the law. ***** is clearly misguided about the law and is a poor representation of the company. When I returned my vehicle at the end of my trip, I was given a summary of charges MUCH higher than what I was initially quoted AND they kept my $250.00 deposit. A deposit I was assured I would get back and I didn'**** was first thing in the morning and the woman at the front counter already had a nasty attitude.Routes had included a bunch of bogus charges and surprise fees that was never disclosed prior to booking.

The car has unlimited mileage. However, if the car leaves ******* the rental company charges an extra $34 a day and the mileage is no longer unlimited. This was not pointed out while booking the car. Nor was it discussed by the rental agent when we told him we were going to SC *** ** ******** ********  I would never rent from here again. It added an extra $400 to the car rental.

Will suprise you with additional charges appearing on your credit card, even after you have returned the vehicle and confirmed verbally that there aren't any additional charges.

The car they gave us was filthy both inside and out. We actually broke down and tried calling. We had to leave a message. They never called us back. The car actually acted okay the next time but we were stressed out each time we drove it, we were afraid it would do the same thing. When we took it back I told the girl at the desk we had broke down, called and left them a message but they never called us back. She told me they never listen to the messages. Dont rent from these people. They are not at the airport and we lost an additional hour waiting to get picked up and taken to the offsite location. Terrible experience.

This is by far the worst ****** *** ******* I have ever experienced.
I rented out of Denver airport for a trip to Wyoming.
Three days into my trip I get an email saying I left Colorado; of course I did, that was the plan. I made the reservations for hotels and Routes through *******. So of course they cover their tails by showing the fine print at the bottom of the legalese mumbo jumbo, you may get charged more if you leave the state. Nobody at the counter ever mentioned this at all!
So my 10 day rental goes from ~$250 to $700 due to the $325 fine for going where I planned to go, and now I don't get unlimited mileage.
