So a few weeks ago, I fell down the stairs and sprained my ankle. I received a nice little lace up ankle brace BREG '90172 which can be purchased on Amazon for $49. To my surprise, I received a bill from Breg showing the item cost $120, they "wrote off" $53.88 and my balance is $66.12. I called Breg and spoke with a rep about it, who kept telling me this was the contracted rate with my insurance, even though my insurance wasn't paying anything on it. I asked to speak with a manager and was put on some black hole hold forever. This is unethical and sad.

DOCTOR OFFICES BEWARE:Broke my foot, and the doctor put me in a boot. I read the paperwork twice, but there was not any pricing. Fast forward a few weeks and I get a bill that they charged my insurance $400 (out of network), and the insurance charged me, $146.94, the maximum amount that the insurance will allow. I called the insurance, and they suggested I call Breg. Breg just blew me off. I called the doctor's ******* gave them the run down, directed them to several websites and they were shocked of their business practices. I hope they consider not to ever use them again. I called my doctor's ***** health provider, and after giving them the information, they were just as shocked. They said that they would do a full audit of both past and current charges. Of course Breg waits to bill you, after you wore the product, so you cannot return it. Sham of a company with fraudulent practices. I would rather crawl out of the doctor's ****** then wear one of their products.

I visited a local urgent care and received a walking boot for my sprained ankle. The retail cost for a walking boot is typically $50, but I was charged $400 by Breg Inc. My insurance company initially rejected the claim, but I immediately began a dispute process. I regularly called Breg Inc. to provide updates about the dispute process, including providing case reference numbers for the dispute to verify with my insurance company. A Breg Inc. customer care representative told me that I did not need to call again and that I did not need to take further action while my claim was disputed with my insurance company. A few weeks later, I learned that Breg Inc. sent my account to a collections agency. I immediately paid the collections agency. Two weeks later, my insurance company settled the dispute process and covered the cost of the walking boot. I have now called Breg Inc. more than 12 times this month and have not been issued a refund. They have been paid by both my insurance company and me for the medical equipment. I have been told that a refund will be issued, but the customer care team is unable to verify any of the information that the billing team has regarding my refund. I would strongly recommend that healthcare providers not prescribe or provide medical equipment from this company due to their poor customer service and poor bill practices.

Seems to be a common theme here. Overcharging for their products. I was charged through my insurance company. I couldve gone onto Amazon and bought THEIR exact same brace for $15. Because it was given to my daughter at the emergency room it was over $200. My insurance has a contract with them so their outrageous fee was lowered to $85. I figured it would be something shady like this when I had to sign a separate agreement just to get the brace she needed. I guess thats how Bregs gets you.

Never ever sign any paperwork to use Breg before surgery. They will bill you whether the doctor uses their stuff or not. Insurance won't cover the entire cost either way. Breg says if you sign the paperwork whether the doctor uses their stuff or not it was available to be used, you get charged.

Bregg's business model seems to be trying to rip off patients and insurance providers. After spraining my ankle, I went to *********** and was provided a ankle brace. They were not able to tell me if there would be a cost to me nor how much it would be. After a month or so I receive a bill from Bregg. They are charging $120 for the exact same brace that they sell online for $40. With credits from my insurance provider the final cost to me is $60.83. Why are they trying to bill insurance three times the cost they actually sell the product for? I called Bregg to complain that I was being over-charged, but they blamed the insurance company saying that the they set the price (I don't think the insurance company agreed to a drastically marked up rate, only how much they would be willing to cover assuming I had hit my deductible). When talking with my insurance provider the rep agreed and said she hoped there would eventually be a law against companies like Bregg taking advantage of people.

Would give them negative stars if I could. Breg charged $250 for a brace for my toddler that is $40 retail. After insurance I owe about $130. I have called a few times to get a breakdown of the bill but have been hung up on every time. They are definitely a rip off. I understand they charge insurance more than self pay but billing the end user for the difference is a scam! They are getting more from the insurance company than retail sales already. There is no need to charge the customer the difference. Also, I just realized that Breg has been sending me texts regarding bill pay but my phone carrier has been automatically moving these texts to my spam folder. So even the phone carriers think they are a scam!

This company is a money hungry org who send messages to you before they have even billed you. In spite of providing them proof they were paid, they again texted me saying I owed them. In DEC 2022 I received braces from BREG through my hand surgeons ofc. In Jan they sent me two text messages - same statement - from different phone numbers claiming they had not received payment on the amount due after Ins payment. I was angry that this company had the nerve to text me a ******* message when I had not received a bill. I received the bill the next day and set up a bill pay for the amount on the bill. Then decided a couple of days later to call them on the number in the text message to complain of their billing/******* practices. I provided proof to the individual that I had set up bill pay and the check should have been received. On 2/10/23, I again received the two ******* text messages. I have proof of my payment from the bank that clearly reflects they received my ck around 2-1-23 and cashed and deposited my check on 2-14-23. I will make sure that in the future I will not take DME from a doctor that has their products and will tell everyone I know. What kind of a business sends txts to people before they bill, and continues even after receipt of payment. Not only are their products overpriced, their business billing practices are horrible.I want them to leave me alone - I know they were paid!

Basically echoing what others are saying, they rip people off. They claim to justify their outrageous RIP OFF prices for "service and fitting" at the doctors office, but it a big SCAM. ************ medical center should also be ashamed for working with a company who charges $900 for a VELCRO knee brace with a piece of metal. They give this to people who are obviously injured in a small ski town with no other place to go for care, so patients are left with no other option but to take the products being offered to them. Just because people sign a form in a place with only 1 option for healthcare, doesn't not equal INFORMED CONSENT. Then, they wait a few weeks to bill your insurance, don't tell you the price, and only give 30 days to return a product that's "unworn". Well if I had known/been told it would be $900 I would have hobbled my way back home and waited for Amazon to deliver the same thing for $50.....

Thank you for reaching out to us on your account. If you would like us to specifically look into your claim, please email us your name and account number or date of birth and we will be happy to respond to you privately. We have billed your insurance, and per the insurance that you chose there is either a deductible amount or copay amount that your insurer is requesting we bill you for the DMEPOS item that you received. Breg did not set the price of the DMEPOS item you received. Your insurance company contract set the price. Please refer to the *** provided to you by your insurance company. Insurance plans expect the best possible outcome for their patients, so insurance pricing is inclusive of the service aspect that payer insurance require of their contracted supplier. Purchasing a product in a retail store or online puts the onus on the customer to determine whether or not the product fits properly, is being used correctly, or is appropriate for the injury or condition that the product is intended to treat.
