Stamps.com contacted my former company to suggest we had signed up for an account but the credit card was being denied. We have no record of signing up for stamps.com and no occasion to use the service. I have requested documents to confirm the registration but worry that this is fraud.

I have searched all emails and credit card records for any conformation regarding this company. I have found nothing. Please help resolve this matter.

    Thank you

    Dear ***,
Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate and consider your feedback and take our customers' concerns very seriously. Normally, a customer is responsible for all service fees. However, rest assured that we have issued a courtesy refund totaling $368.80 on 12/23/22. We show that your account is closed.
We show that a Stamps.com account was fully activated on 2/20/19. We show that a Welcome Email confirming activation had been sent to you on that day. We hear your concerns and we always aim to fully disclose our fees before any account can be created. We do not advertise or offer a free or pay-as-you-go service, and as disclosed and explained during registration, we do charge a monthly fee after the 4-Week Trial Period, which ended on your account on 3/21/19. We show your account was closed on 12/22/22.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide account details in this venue. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we would ask that you contact our Customer Care department to discuss details of account creation.
We allow all of our customers to evaluate our features without signing up for an account. We provide extensive FAQs and demos in order to answer any queries that a potential customer may have in regards to the Stamps.com service and software. When you visit our website, you have the option of viewing various pages that offer more information and background on our postage printing product. You do not have to register in order to receive information about Stamps.com.
To create any Stamps.com account, you must complete the multi-step registration process at www.stamps.com.
Registration requires you to enter your name, mailing address, phone number and credit card information, in addition to creating a username and password and selecting two security questions. Also, you must review and agree to our Terms and Conditions:

    www.stamps.com/conditions
To best serve our customers, we provide the terms for Stamps.com accounts during the registration process. Stamps.com accounts cannot be created without customers indicating that they've read the terms and conditions. During registration for a Stamps.com account, we explain that your credit card will not be charged unless you continue past the four-week trial or buy additional postage and Online Store products.

In addition, immediately after sign-up, new customers are sent a Welcome Email with the same terms outlined, along with information about the monthly flat rate fee if you choose to continue past the trial month.
The fee we charge gives you access to services of the Post Office and the license to print official U.S. postage. It's a flat fee that is not determined by how much postage you print. Stamps.com is a vendor licensed by the USPS, and all paid postage goes directly to the Post Office. In order to offer our standard service, we do charge a monthly subscription fee.

We never charge people without their full agreement and awareness during our online registration process. Our service fee is not based on usage or activity. The monthly subscription service fee that Stamps.com charges is for access of the Stamps.com software, which allows customers to print postage from the comfort of their home or small office using just a PC and a printer. Our service is a monthly subscription service so it's not based on usage of the software, but rather on having access to using it.
We believe in full disclosure, and information about our fees is available on our website, interface, Terms, and FAQs.
During registration for a Stamps.com account, we explain that your credit card will not be charged unless you continue past the four-week trial or buy additional postage and Online Store products. We believe the monthly fee provides a good value for customers who need to print not only just Priority and Priority Express Mail shipping labels, but also Shipping Labels for other classes (we support First Class, Media Mail, and Parcel Select Labels), NetStamps, and postage printed directly on envelopes. We do have a wide variety of customers - over a million customers- who enjoy the experience of not having to rely on expensive postage meters and who require more functionality and features than what other PC Postage services currently offer.

On our main page at www.stamps.com, we explain our fees under the section "Here's how it works..." During the registration process we do make sure that our customers are aware of the monthly service fee in that we have it detailed on the webpage titled "Why do you need my credit card information?"

We do this so that customers can see the price before they complete the registration process. We also have the billing policy detailed in our Terms and Conditions at:

    www.stamps.com/conditions

Customers are required to review and agree to these Terms prior to completing registration.
In addition, potential customers can review and compare our pricing plans, as well as other important information, to determine which plan best meets their mailing needs via the Learn More section which is accessible from the Stamps.com home page. I took advantage of a free $5 credit through stamps.com. I never used the service other than that due to the lack of demand. When getting the free credit, it was not clearly explained that I would be charged a $18 monthly service fee. I never received an agreement or any communications from stamps.com about the monthly charges. Once I realized that these reoccurring charges were taking place I called to cancel and was told that they could not refund me. I also explained the lack of communication or receipts or the charges. They then send me a mass number of receipts just this day that I had not previously received. This is poor communication on their part and these charges were not clear nor were services utilized, this can be seem on the account.

I signed up for a stamps.com account for the sole purpose of buying stamps one time.
I have been charged several times over the past few months and was only made aware of it now through my bank.
    Dec 08- $19.83
    Nov 08 - $19.83
    Oct 09 - $19.83
    Sep 08 - $19.83
    Aug 08 - $19.83
    Jul 08 - $19.83
    Jun 08 - $19.83

This is apparently for a subscription service that was silently shoehorned into my one time stamp purchase.
In trying to cancel, I have been locked out of my account and told that I will be charged one more time at the end of this 'statement window'. The only evidence I have now of these charges are my bank statements.

I never signed up for, nor benefited from this subscription, nor was I ever made aware of these charges by stamps.com. I want a refund for this service that has been snuck into my purchase. I do not want to authorize any future charges, and I'd like a direct response to confirm that I won't be charged again (specified repair in the desired resolution).

I have reached out to the business but have not received a response.

    Consumer Response /* (2000, 8, 2022/12/14) */
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Thank you so much. I don't want to lecture business owners as I'm not one myself, but I STRONGLY recommend that you re-evaluate your policy in order to notify people of monthly charges. Silent subscriptions affect millions of Americans. Most of the complaints I've seen about stamps.com are surrounded by an air of "scam website" or otherwise. While you guys tout yourselves on transparency, you rely on the pattern of other predatory companies of not notifying people of monthly charges that go to their accounts. While this would probably be devastating to your revenue, opt-outable notifications via email turned on by default for all charges would provide you guys with the transparency you claim to own. Stamps.com did not earn any trust with me in this regard, but I hope to see an improvement on this website as many people see stamps.com as ubiquitous, but many more see them as misleading. In a better timeline I would have preferred to not have to make a BBB complaint in order to get my money back.

At the end of the day, however, I'm very satisfied. Keep up the good communication and support, and hopefully next time, don't tell people what they did wrong when you guys have incredibly apparently slipped subscriptions into thousands of people's one time orders. Your business model should not rely on the general ignorance of the average consumer in any way.

In February, I wanted to order stamps online. I mistakenly thought stamps.com sold stamps. They required me to sign up for an account to make a one time purchase. I purchased one sheet of what I thought was stamps but turned out to just be paper on which to print stamps. I don't even have a printer. It wasn't until recently that my credit card notified me of a $17.99 charge from stamps.com that was declined for insufficient funds. I was totally confused. I never use them. What was I being charged for?? I did buy some stamps from usps.com so I thought maybe they were affiliated somehow. I logged into my account at stamps.com and it didn't show anything in my purchase history. No orders. No activity at all. So I contacted stamps.com and told them this charge was not authorized. I didn't buy anything from them. They informed me that it was a monthly membership fee. So I looked through my credit card charges and, sure enough, every month since my purchase in February, they've been charging my credit card $17.99. that comes out to about $162 for absolutely nothing. I never used this company except one time and that wasn't even what I wanted! I have since learned that they trick customers into signing up for an account in order to make a purchase. Then charge you monthly for having that account and never inform you of the charges. I subscribe to other monthly services such as Hulu and I get emails from them letting me know my payment is coming up soon. Stamps.com is intentionally sneaky and underhanded in their business practices. They don't want customers to know they're being charged. And I wonder how much of their revenue is actually from willing customers. They should be stopped!

We apologize for any misunderstanding regarding our services. Stamps.com accounts can only be created at the Stamps.com website. We are a separate company from the USPS itself. We're sorry to hear that you haven't been using the Stamps.com features and services available to you with your account. Dear********
Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate and consider your feedback and take our customers' concerns very seriously. Rest assured that you were not charged and apologize for any confusion regarding our offer.

We apologize for any misunderstanding regarding our services. We do not sell rolls or books of stamps, as the service we offer is the ability to print postage. Stamps.com is a PC Postage Vendor licensed and approved by the USPS. We are a separate company from the USPS itself. Our advertised offer specifies that we offer $5.00 in postage credit for new customers. This free $5.00 balance can be used towards printing postage via the Stamps.com platform. We send a free Welcome Kit to new customers. The kit includes free labels that can be used for printing postage. The Stamps.com service and software are also useable without any special supplies or equipment. Customers can begin using Stamps.com immediately upon opening an account and installing our software. No additional hardware or supplies are needed to start printing postage. The Stamps.com software allows customers to print valid USPS postage directly onto standard non-windowed envelopes (#8,#9,#10, etc.), and plain paper for barcoded Shipping Labels, for example. Customers may also use labels purchased from a 3rd party office supplies store, such as Avery or NCR labels. Stamps.com customers do not have to purchase Stamps.com scales, and can use scales purchased from an office supplies store.

Rest assured that********** is a complimentary order. We do show that your account is closed. The Welcome Kit is a free item that is automatically mailed from our fulfillment house to each new account. We apologize for any misunderstanding. To clarify, the Welcome Kit is completely free and is never billed to the customer. You can discard or refuse the order when it arrives. You have cancelled during our 4-Week Trial, so rest assured that you will not receive any service fees.
We show that a Stamps.com account was fully activated and established on 12/1/22. We show that a Welcome Email confirming activation had been sent to you on that day. We hear your concerns and we always aim to fully disclose our fees before any account can be created. We do not advertise or offer a free or pay-as-you-go service, and as disclosed and explained during registration, we do charge a monthly fee after the 4-Week Trial Period. We show that you cancelled within the 4-Week Trial Period.

While the USPS offers a free online service called Click n' Ship, Stamps.com's fees pay for features not offered on-line by the USPS. These include the ability to print shipping labels for mail classes other than Priority or Priority Express Mail, such as First Class Mail and Parcel Select (which will save you money), the ability to keep track of everything you send via our detailed reporting features, the Hidden Postage feature, discounted package insurance, integration with major software titles including Outlook and QuickBooks, the ability to import orders from online stores like eBay and Amazon.com, Mail merge, and batch printing.
Stamps.com has many features not offered online by Click-N-Ship. You can print a First Class stamp directly to an envelope as soon as the software is downloaded and you can print shipping labels for all mail classes. Plus, with Click-N-Ship now offering retail rates on all shipping you will be able to save up to 51% off Priority Mail, up to 10% off Priority Express Mail and up to 26% discount when sending First Class parcels. In addition, USPS's Click-N-Ship service stopped offering the discounted Commercial Base rates as of 1/17/16. The Click n' Ship service moved to retail pricing. Stamps.com still offers discounted Commercial Base rates.

We offer FAQs that answer questions about pricing, plans, and specific and general benefits of using Stamps.com:

At no time did I ever think I was signing up for a service and by looking at your reviews many other people were confused by your advertisement. I found this predatory and you should change your advertising strategy. I will never recommend stamps.com to anybody unless it was changed and your company was more forthright.

    Dear*******:

We ensure that our customers see our Terms and Conditions before they create their accounts. During the process of registration, we present fee and Trial Period information.

Our billing structure is also explained before we ask for a credit card. Stamps.com follows up immediately with a Welcome E-mail that reiterates this process. We also ask customers interested in our service to read the Service Agreement and the information contained in their Welcome E-mail.

We do apologize if there was a misunderstanding with regard to our policies, but we would be happy to provide you with any further clarification.
As a courtesy, we reiterated in the Welcome Email we sent the day you opened your account that the service fee for the first month will be applied and the fees for subsequent months will be applied uninterrupted for as long as your account is kept open beyond your 4-Week Trial Period.

We appreciate you taking the time to contact us and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. If you would like further details on the Terms and Conditions of the Service Agreement, please visit the following link: http://www.stamps.com/conditions/

I was charged over $50 for a service I have never used with this company out of nowhere. I attempted to reach out to the company and get a refund and they refused. I informed them that I've never used their service before and customer support even confirmed that my account was not active. However, when I then asked for my money back they told me that I could not get that back but would instead get a waiver for paying a cancellation fee. I could understand if I purchased something from them or ever used their service but I did not. I don't have any emails from them about charging my account, no notice of making an account, nothing. Radio silence from the company while they charge me for services I never was aware of or used.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
This is the resolution that I wanted from the company. While I understand the information provided from them, I still firmly believe that my points are valid and that the company makes an active attempt to take money from unknowing customers whenever possible. As a business, this tactic is understandable. For the average consumer which they advertise to all the time - this is a cash grab. Consumers have a right to remain informed in what they are paying for, especially when it is well documented that the services are not being used, the customer is not being kept informed, and the payments are not even being made for months at a time.

On November 28, 2022 I attempted to receive a refund for fraudulent charges by a predatory subscription service called Stamps.com that has been charging our credit card since July 23, 2017 at a rate of $15.99-$17.99 per month. This has resulted in charges to the credit card in the amount of over $1136.00 over a nearly six-year period. The company has not refunded my money to date. I have never used the Stamps.com "service" nor purchased any tangible goods from the online website. The company can clearly see I have not ordered from them nor used their services (not sure what they offer) and I am being billed in error / fraudulently. They refuse to give me any billing statements or information about the billing account. I am requesting a full refund in the amount of $1136.00.

    Dear****
Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate and consider your feedback and take our customers' concerns very seriously. Normally, a customer is responsible for all service fees. However, rest assured that we have issued a refund of $1161.36 to your credit card. We show that your account is closed. Your confirmation number is: *************.

We were rendering service and providing service to you from the day the account was activated on 7/24/17 until account closure. The service that we provide is access to the Stamps.com software and online platform. This was accessible to you as soon as the account was activated. Our service also allows you to print real U.S. postage for all your letters and packages 24/7.

We're sorry to hear that you haven't been using the Stamps.com features and services available to you with your account. The monthly service fee is a flat rate fee that provides access to your account. The fee is not based on usage or activity.

We show that a Stamps.com account was fully activated and established on 7/24/17. We show that a Welcome Email confirming activation had been sent to you on that day. We hear your concerns and we always aim to fully disclose our fees before any account can be created. We do not advertise or offer a free or pay-as-you-go service, and as disclosed and explained during registration, we do charge a monthly fee after the 4-Week Trial Period, which ended on your account on 8/22/17. We show that you cancelled your account on 11/28/22.
To create any Stamps.com account, you must complete the multi-step registration process at ***************

Registration requires you to enter your name, mailing address, phone number and credit card information, in addition to creating a username and password and selecting two security questions. Also, you must review and agree to our Terms and Conditions:

    ***************conditions

On our main page at *************** we explain our fees under the section "Here's how it works..." During the registration process we do make sure that our customers are aware of the monthly service fee in that we have it detailed on the webpage titled "Why do you need my credit card information?"

We do this so that customers can see the price before they complete the registration process. We also have the billing policy detailed in our Terms and Conditions at:

    ***************conditions

Customers are required to review and agree to these Terms prior to completing registration.
In addition, potential customers can review and compare our pricing plans, as well as other important information, to determine which plan best meets their mailing needs via the Learn More section which is accessible from the Stamps.com home page. We offer FAQs that answer questions about pricing, plans, and specific and general benefits of using Stamps.com:
