1 starI ordered a small heater for $49.95 on Nov 15. It was supposedly to be 20% off, but when I placed the order, it was for the full amount of $49.95. Immediately $49.95 was deducted from my account as well as an additional 9.95 with no explanation. I received an order number but not a confirmation number. I sent an email immediately advising them to cancel the order & explained why and I received no reply. Then I received an email saying the order had shipped. I emailed again and was told since it had shipped, they could not cancel it. After several emails back and forth, I told them I would dispute the charge with my credit card company and report to BBB & finally got a refund. They said the heater had already been shipped & I need to return it upon receipt. I haven't received it yet.Review fromStephen F

I ordered a lighter that was supposed to be rechargeable with a usb plug and run on electricity and the ad said specificly no butane. i received a butane lighter with no recharge port and a bin of metal prongs. Also they charged me ***** for something but i have no idea what that is. no answer when you call. complete fraud!!Brownstone Resources LLC

Brownstone Resources (BR) ran a TV ad that touted a handheld electronic "torch" that uses no "fuel." I assumed electricity was excepted, but I recall they specifically said that butane was not required. I was excited when the images on the screen showed USB connections, said to be the recharging ports to keep the unit functional, it sounded wonderful--perhaps too good to be true, which proved to be the case. When the "torch" arrived, the butane port exposed the blatant fraud. I already had a similar butane torch that works quite well, but the claim that this Brownstone Resources unit is fuel-free is wrong and completely fraudulent. Theyll probably get away with it due to the relatively low cost of the units unless a class-action suit can be brought by some enterprising attorney.I am posting this with BBB with the hope that others can be warned, at least, and perhaps FTC or other government action can be taken against this despicable company.I have noted other complaints about failure of ** to refund payment after return of the product, and their failure to respond to emails/telephone calls. I am certainly not going to return the unit without expecting a refund, but I will complain to the company.Brownstone Resources LLC

3 starsI researched widely to find a small, personal AC unit for a personal boost for my garage hair studio. I need a personal boost for the client on 85 degree and up days when the regular AC unit isn't quite enough. I purchased 2 of these units - the other for my nightstand on those days. I've only used the one in my studio and as cheap and small as it is, it has been exactly what I needed. It is fairly chilly air and flows well from 2 feet away but soft enough to not blow the clients ******* actually thrilled and if the other unit works as well, it'll be the same cool and gentle airflow for cooler sleep. The water reservoir is supposed to last for 8 hours ... in my studio I have it on high (3 speeds) so it uses the water faster. It lasts more like 4 or 5 hours. I'll likely only need the slow speed for sleep since it's close and effective so water will likely last all night. It'll still blow like a fan but the water makes it colder. Refill takes seconds and another second to re-place, so simple if need ***** actually thrilled. It's just what I needed though I wouldnt mind if it were a bit larger. It came within just a few days after ordering, too, and is ready to fill and use. The charger is USB as stated. I prefer an electrical plug, so plug the cable into my phone charger port and can plug that into the wall. I have experienced the scam type of company this one sounds like in many BBB reviews I read recently, but after already using it for a week. Their website listed reputable companies as having endorsed but Im wondering if those are fabrications. It also might have said that it would cool a larger room than I think it would but Im very happy to have cold air close by.Review fromGeorgette M

I ordered three table top portable air conditioners. I carefully checked for shipping charges before submitting my order, purchase total only showed my purchase price. An upsell pop-up for an additional air conditioner unit at a lower price sucked me into buying a 4th unit. Upon receiving confirmation of my purchase, shipping charges were added. I called the customer service number on the order confirmation, the number was not in service. I sent an email and received response to my multiple questions regarding my order. I sent a follow up email because the undisclosed shipping cost was not addressed. They promptly replied that they would refund the shipping as a one-time courtesy. They advised me that I'll receive a pre-shipment email notification with tracking information. I emailed the same customer support person who had been responding to my inquires, that I was still waiting for the pre-shipment email notification and asked her to check on the processing of my order and shipment. She responded that my order was cancelled as my location is unsupported. They do not ship to ******. My complaint is that my order included my mailing address, zip code in *****************. If they don't ship to ******, my order should have been rejected immediately based on my zip code. The multiple emails with their customer service never addressed not shipping to my location until I inquired about checking on processing of my order and shipment. I think they were not happy with refunding my shipping cost, which I pointed out to them was undisclosed at time of checkout. I did not request the refund. Now, I have to be concerned if they will actually refund the shipping cost and my original purchases. My credit card initially declined the charges as potentially fraudulent but I confirmed the charges and submitted the order again so my credit card purchase would go through., That should have been a clue not to make the purchase. ****** learned!Brownstone Resources LLC

Do not buy from this company; they are scammers.On July 14th I put in an order for a Polar Cooling unit. I immediatly received a notification from my bank's fraud division. Since I recognized $89.98 dollar charge, I made a mistake of allowing the transaction. There was, however, a $9.99 charge that I did not recognize I googled Modern Life Trends and all of the negative reviews on the BBB page. I called the bank, but the charge was already pending.I reached out to customer service and someone did pick up. I was credited the $9.99, but nothing further could be done until the device was received by my brother to whom I had gifted the cooling ******* brother received a package marked "ear cleaner." Inside the package there was an air cooling unit with no brand name or labeling of any kind, and a device made out of "chintzy" materials. There is no plug or battery. My brother followed instructions and used his charger to run the device, which stopped working after 90 minutes. *** at customer service offered my brother a full refund, but he then received an e-mail asking him to take photos or provide a video to prove it was broken. This is impossible for my brother to do.I am unwilling ask my brother to ship this item backed since I already paid $89.98 for an item that is not a Polar Cooler but a cheap device that broke immediatly and is made in ******I expect a full refund; it was promised to my brother until more and more demands were made. I expect a full refund. If the company would like to provide a label and pay for shipping, I am sure my brother would be happy to mail this back. I am very tired of scams! I purchased a Air cooling product advertised as being able to cool off a small room in 3 mind...that is a joke. It isn't an air conditioning unit but a small fam that blows over wet water paper. It was supposed to be able to be used without being plugged in, it was supposed to make a room comfortable in high heat...what I received for close to 100 dollars is not any of those things. do not purchase from this company!
